Book Shades of the Moon

Download or read book Shades of the Moon written by Eric James and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-06-28 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The move from the City to the Suburbs was a huge change, even though I was young when it happened. People in the suburbs were a lot different than the city and we as kids thought it was paradise. Boy were we wrong. Most people in this town are fake, corrupted, selfish, and overall ASSHOLES, in my opinion. A lot of politics I wont get into but you might see some of it. From the time I turned seventeen, to about twenty two, Ive gone threw some pretty interesting experiences. My life entailed robbing, stealing, fighting, drugs & drug dealing, alcohol, women, kidnapping, sports, and of course fighting. Ive had my ups and downs, arrested eleven times but never locked up, so I guess Im pretty lucky, or have a very good lawyer; just had a few over nighters in a holding cell. My family is very close and we chill together all the time. Id do anything for them, some not for me, but thats just the way they are. I guess they call me the crazy one, but honestly, every family needs someone like me. From my tales to tell, overall I wouldnt take any of it back. I love my life and how I lived it. I feel my past was lived to the fullest and my crew thugged it out for years. I know that most of the trouble I got into was because of the choices I made, and even then I knew that it was the wrong path to take, but I just didnt care. While these adventures where happening, I knew my life would be change for the better once I finished school and landed a good set job. Though it seemed like it took forever, I finally did finish school and became full time at the position Id been working at for a few years. That is when my life started. I enjoyed being young and dumb, as they say, but now its time to grow up and become a man. Ive gone through plenty of friends over the years, some lost due to changes schools or choosing different cliques in school, others lost on bad terms; sometimes I knew why and others I didnt understand. I lost a couple very close best friends and also gained new ones. Life is a struggle, I struggled through it but was able to surpass. I got through the tough times, enjoyed the memorable times, and here are my stories to tell. This book will deliver my resume of an uncontrolled substance that almost ruined my life. The rage and power I absorbed through fisting a persons face brought happiness to me. Every true street fighter will tell you theyve gotten their ass kicked at least once in their life, and probably didnt like it. I on the other hand loved it. The more I got hit the more aggressive I became, trying to destroy anything in my path. It became so much of an addiction that I looked for it all the time and even threw down with my own brother. I loved to fight and was pretty good at it but it almost got me killed a few times. My stories here are all true, but some names may have been altered for confidentiality purposes. In no way am I trying to disrespect anyone, past or present, because its a story about my life but a lot of others are involved as well. Overall, I have been in over fifty legit street fights, mostly in a five year range and these are the main tales. Other than fighting and the mischief Im actually a really nice person and a great athlete. My whole life has been based around sports and my entire family is athletes, including the girls. Though I pursued a sports career I still found myself living the Hip Hop lifestyle, which made me the person I am today. I speak mostly of the bad experiences rather than the good because everyone has their good moments and the awful times are the juiciest. I give a lot of credit to my parents for putting up with me all these years and I know what theyve done for me and I really do appreciate it. They are the best parents any kid can ever ask for, and to put them through what I did was a horrible thing to do, so Im truly sorry. Like the saying goes, what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger, I guess Im

Book The Philadelphia Reader

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you love Philadelphia? Do you love good writing? Well, this is the book for you. It's about the people of Philadelphia--the good, the fine, and the imperfect. Yes, the sports heroes are here--Mike Schmidt, Julius ("Dr. J.") Erving. And the politicians--Ed Rendell, John Street. And the moguls--Brian Roberts, Comcast honcho. And the would-be moguls--Mark Yagalla, world-class embezzler. And so many more, including--writing in their own words--Terry Gross, Patti LaBelle, W. Wilson Goode, Sr., Judy Wicks, Judith Rodin, and Smarty Jones (proving that this horse is no one-trick pony). And so many more--25 of them in all. The people--and the horse--who have meant something to this city during the last 20 years. Ripped from the pages of Philadelphia magazine (well, OK, carefully removed and lovingly pasted into this book), here are profiles of the people who made an era.

Book Jerry Krause and His Chicago Bulls

Download or read book Jerry Krause and His Chicago Bulls written by Łukasz Muniowski and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2024-06-07 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From March 26, 1985, until April 4, 2003, Jerry Krause was responsible for shaping the Chicago Bulls' roster as vice president of basketball operations. He called the shots and yet, even after six championships, could never shake off the status of the underdog. He conducted 37 trades to win the first championship for the Bulls, was constantly evaluating talent and throughout his tenure remained who he was at heart--a scout. Krause's fate was closely tied to his surroundings, the people he employed and the ones he ignored for certain positions. This book examines Jerry Krause as a basketball scout and executive. Rather than redirecting hate, casting blame or clearing anybody's name, it shows the other side of the Bulls dynasty-- with a sharp focus on roster construction--and the interactions between the team, the staff and the front office. This is a story about making hard decisions and learning how to live with them.

Book We Changed the Game

Download or read book We Changed the Game written by Robin Miller and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We Changed the Game is a story about a city looking to grow up, a laughable basketball league trying to be taken seriously and a bunch of unsung players given a shot or a second chance to make it in pro basketball. It¿s equal parts comedy, creativity and sheer luck and only could have existed in the free-wheeling `60s. Indeed it is the Wild West in tennis shoes. The Indiana Pacers were born on a partially-used cocktail napkin for $6,000 and staggered through some challenging times but, in the end, they carried the American Basketball Association (ABA) into respectability and eventually a merger with what is known today as the National Basketball Association (NBA). Between their ABA existence from 1967 to 1976, the Pacers captured three ABA titles, but also--and only known by a select few--teetered on the brink of extinction at least three times before finally finding two Indianapolis-based real estate legends who would take a gamble and purchase this team that no one else could or would, officially securing the Pacers' future as one of the top-contending professional basketball teams in the country.Indianapolis¿ love affair with the Pacers also triggered the explosion of downtown Indy. Market Square Arena was conceived, with the vision of then Mayor Bill Hudnut, and made possible because of the Pacer¿s popularity. From that catalyst eventually came the Hoosier Dome, the Colts, Banker¿s Life Fieldhouse, major hotel chains and restaurants galore. The Pacers changed the city¿s profile ¿ Naptown was laid to rest and a vibrant, progressive state capital emerged over these past 40 years. Indianapolis was alive. Through the eyes of Richard Tinkham, the legal counsel of the Pacers from Day 1 (who also served as innovator, negotiator, deal maker and fireman), and the mercurial Netolicky, please sit back and enjoy one of the most improbable and inspirational stories in professional sports history.

Book Crashing the Borders

Download or read book Crashing the Borders written by Harvey Araton and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2007-11-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unflinching, timely, and authoritative, Crashing the Borders is the beginning of a much-needed conversation about sport and American culture. For those who care about both, this book will be the must-read work of the season. The game of basketball has gone global and is now the world’s fastest-growing sport. Talented players from Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa are literally crashing the borders as the level of their game now often equals that of the American pros, who no longer are sure winners in international competition and who must compete with foreign players for coveted spots on NBA rosters. Yet that refreshing world outlook stands in stark contrast to the game’s troubled image here at home. The concept of team play in the NBA has declined as the league’s marketers and television promoters have placed a premium on hyping individual stars instead of teams, and the players have come to see that big-buck contracts and endorsements come to those who selfishly demand the spotlight for themselves. In this taut, simmering book, Harvey Araton points his finger at the greed and exploitation that has weakened the American game and opens a discussion on the volatile, undiscussed subject that lies at the heart of basketball’s crisis: race. It begins, he argues, at the college level, where, too often, undereducated, inner-city talents are expected to perform for the benefit of affluent white crowds and to fill the coffers of their respective schools in what Araton calls a kind of “modern-day minstrel show.” Harvey Araton knows the players well enough to see beyond the stereotypes, and by combining passion and knowledge he calls on the NBA to heal itself and, with a hopeful sense of the possible, he points the way to a better future.
