Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stereotype image of Nara Chandrababu Naidu has been formed in the last 40 years. His story is remarkable at every level. But often questions, which is the important story? The one where he evolves into one of the extraordinary leaders in Indian politics over four decades? Or that of an ordinary man from a farming family who worked his way to the top by keeping his family and political party together? That which reflects his political acumen, intellect, and hardwork? Or the one that unveils the person who introduced Andhra Pradesh to India? This book attempts to show how Naidu has been a quintessential survivor in Indian politics. This book analyses how Naidu's ability to combine politics and governance has touched every aspect of Indian domestic and foreign policy, from the struggle for social, technological, economic and administrative reforms to creating world-class institutions. It establishes the fact that Naidu, today, is a symbol and an embodiment of many Indias - modern, progressive, rural and cultural.

Book excerpt: This book is an intimate and a rare collection of more than 30 stories of top Indian business leaders about how late Professor CK Prahalad inspired and guided them through their most painful journey after the 1991 Economic Reforms. Most of them, who didn’t think they could survive the MNC onslaught, went on to build profitable global enterprises. At a time when most business and management ideas are getting debunked CK’s radical approach to strategy, managing people, leadership, teaching, and life, will continue to be relevant and will interest business leaders, entrepreneurs, policy makers, students and the academia around the world. The first edition, published in 2014, covered a wide area and was perceived as CK’s biography. This edition covers more business pole-vaulting stories with a separate chapter on India’s mammoth potential to become a global leader in healthcare. This book is an invitation to celebrate and learn from one of the world’s greatest management thinkers. “CK was gathering us like a shepherd would gather his flock and was essentially bent on chastising us for what we hadn’t done and how we could do.” Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group

Book excerpt: DID THE GREAT FLOOD OF INDIAN LEGEND ACTUALLY HAPPEN? WHY DID THE BUDDHA WALK TO SARNATH TO GIVE HIS FIRST SERMON? HOW DID THE EUROPEANS MAP INDIA? The history of any country begins with its geography. With sparkling wit and intelligence, Sanjeev Sanyal sets off to explore India and look at how the country’s history was shaped by, among other things, its rivers, mountains and cities. Traversing remote mountain passes, visiting ancient archaeological sites, crossing rivers in shaky boats and immersing himself in old records and manuscripts, he considers questions about Indian history that we rarely ask: Why do Indians call their country Bharat? How did the British build the railways across the subcontinent? Why was the world’s highest mountain named after George Everest? Moving from the geological beginnings of the subcontinent to present-day Gurgaon, Land of the Seven Rivers is riveting, wry and full of surprises. It is the most entertaining history of India you will ever read.

Book Billions of Entrepreneurs

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China and India are home to one-third of the world's population. And they're undergoing social and economic revolutions that are capturing the best minds--and money--of Western business. In Billions of Entrepreneurs, Tarun Khanna examines the entrepreneurial forces driving China's and India's trajectories of development. He shows where these trajectories overlap and complement one another--and where they diverge and compete. He also reveals how Western companies can participate in this development. Through intriguing comparisons, the author probes important differences between China and India in areas such as information and transparency, the roles of capital markets and talent, public and private property rights, social constraints on market forces, attitudes toward expatriates abroad and foreigners at home, entrepreneurial and corporate opportunities, and the importance of urban and rural communities. He explains how these differences will influence China's and India's future development, what the two countries can learn from each other, and how they will ultimately reshape business, politics, and society in the world around them. Engaging and incisive, this book is a critical resource for anyone working in China or India or planning to do business in these two countries.

Book Pax indica India and the world of the 21st century

Download or read book Pax indica India and the world of the 21st century written by Shashi Tharoor and published by . This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indian diplomacy, a veteran told Shashi Tharoor many years ago, is like the love- making of an elephant: it is conducted at a very high level, accompanied by much bellowing, and the results are not known for two years. In this lively, informative and insightful work, the award-winning author and parliamentarian brilliantly demonstrates how Indian diplomacy has become sprightlier since then and where it needs to focus in the 21st century. Explaining why foreign policy matters to an India focused on its own domestic transformation, Tharoor surveys the country's major international relationships, evokes its soft power and global responsibilities, analyses the workings of the Ministry of External Affairs and parliament and assesses the impact of public opinion on government policy. Indeed, Tharoor presents his ideas about a contemporary new grand strategy for the nation, arguing that India must move beyond non-alignment to multi-alignment. This book sets out a clear vision of an India now ready to assume global responsibility in the contemporary world. Pax Indica is another substantial achievement from one of our finest Indian authors.

Book Global and Regional Leadership of BRICS Countries

Download or read book Global and Regional Leadership of BRICS Countries written by Stephen Kingah and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic collation of the regional and global dimensions of the leadership role of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). It analyses the rising regional and global leadership of BRICS, using specific benchmarks to gauge the nature of this leadership. The elements examined include willingness to lead, the capacity to do as much, and the degree to which the given actor is accepted as a leader both within and beyond its region. The chapters in the book capture the nature of trends in regional and global leadership within the contexts of a changing international order. It is taken for granted that Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are now engineering a unique pool of governance that is seeking alternatives to the current order of global economic and political affairs. The fact that these countries have jointly decided to forge ahead with the BRICS constellation of states that is now taking consequential decisions such as the creation of the BRICS’ New Development Bank, is not to be treated lightly. In this book the majority of papers take a step back and systematically analyse the real state of the leadership that is provided by the BRICS on a litany of regionally and globally relevant issues. While no one doubts the fact that these countries have the capacity to provide leadership especially in their various regions on many issues, what remains moot is whether they are willing and capable to do so at the global level. Even in those cases where there is the willingness and capacity, the book argues that the acceptance of such leadership by potential followers is not always a given.

Book India and Asian Geopolitics

Download or read book India and Asian Geopolitics written by Shivshankar Menon and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A clear-eyed look at modern India's role in Asia's and the broader world One of India's most distinguished foreign policy thinkers addresses the many questions facing India as it seeks to find its way in the increasingly complex world of Asian geopolitics. A former Indian foreign secretary and national security adviser, Shivshankar Menon traces India's approach to the shifting regional landscape since its independence in 1947. From its leading role in the “nonaligned” movement during the cold war to its current status as a perceived counterweight to China, India often has been an after-thought for global leaders—until they realize how much they needed it. Examining India's own policy choices throughout its history, Menon focuses in particular on India's responses to the rise of China, as well as other regional powers. Menon also looks to the future and analyzes how India's policies are likely to evolve in response to current and new challenges. As India grows economically and gains new stature across the globe, both its domestic preoccupations and international choices become more significant. India itself will become more affected by what happens in the world around it. Menon makes a powerful geopolitical case for an India increasingly and positively engaged in Asia and the broader world in pursuit of a pluralistic, open, and inclusive world order.

Book Culture Clash 2

Download or read book Culture Clash 2 written by Thomas D. Zweifel and published by SelectBooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few are prepared for managing across cultures, and the costs of cultural blind spots can spin out of control—from lawsuits to lost opportunities. Forged in the fire of clashing cultures and living on four continents, Dr. Zweifel developed a fool-proof methodology for managing successfully across borders. And post-9/11, the Arab Spring and the BRICS emerging markets, e-commerce and social networks have made this updated and expanded edition of Culture Clash indispensible. Culture Clash 2 is not another Kiss, Bow or Shake Hands. Such protocol-laden works on whether to bring wine to a dinner in Singapore or how many times to kiss in France might have their uses, but non-compliance with local etiquette has rarely been a deal-breaker. What has derailed international business is the inability of managers to see the world from their counterpart's point of view, read between the lines, and decode the mind-set of the other side.

Book The Five Principles of Global Leadership

Download or read book The Five Principles of Global Leadership written by Jay Clark, Ph.D. and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The type of global leadership described in the five principles of this book is effective in any organization. Of course the context changes, but how you manage the context and complexities will determine the effectiveness of your leadership. Working with global organizations, I see the main obstacle to being a successful global leader is the inability to develop a clear strategy. Most of the leaders I work with have a good understanding of managing and following a task or directive, but few truly have the ability to create a strategic plan in which they identify local challenges and create global opportunities. Why do many leaders have difficulty developing into global leaders? This issue involves a good deal of complexity. What makes global leadership so complex? Is it the cross-cultural communication or the ability to develop a global mindset? Although the answer to both questions is yes, they are not the main reasons. The complexity of global leadership is most obvious when leaders have to make strategic decisions for an organization that has a diverse background of followers and the context is filled with crisis and conflict.
