This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) emerge rapidly as an instrument of start-up promotion in emerging economies like India? In what forms? What role do they play in start-up promotion? What are their major achievements? These questions have been answered empirically in this book. Accordingly, this book explores the nature, structure and process of incubation resulting in start-up generation and in the process, R&D contribution emerging from TBIs comprising accelerators, incubators and co-working spaces in three of the leading start-up hubs, namely, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, in India. It describes typology, objectives, sponsors, and facilities provided by these TBIs. It further explores the process of selection, incubation and graduation of start-ups as it exists in these TBIs. Thereafter, it makes an assessment of R&D contributions that have emerged from the TBIs in the form of R&D inputs comprising personnel and capital expenditure, and R&D output in the form of new products/services developed, patent applications filed and revenue generated. Book Developing a Sustainable Campus Based Startup Incubation Eco System

Download or read book Developing a Sustainable Campus Based Startup Incubation Eco System written by M. Saxena and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Startup-hub is an ambitious initiative of academia industry partnership that aims to develop a sustainable eco-system for drawing technical higher education students towards entrepreneurship and supporting their efforts by creating a self-sustaining startup incubator. The incubator project spans the entire value chain beginning with development of entrepreneurial learning eco-system in the institutions, creation of shared logistics incubator, networking with industry components for drawing startup intelligence to the campus, facilitating “go to market” strategy and concept testing and finally finding angel and growth investors for the startups. The first step was development of shared infrastructure for incubator which comprised of tinkering labs, co-working space, knowledge centre and project development & testing centre in the campus. A panel of experts from each branch of engineering and allied fields was formed and available for consultation at specified times to the incubator. To develop an eco-system for sustainable learning of entrepreneurship, innovative simulated virtual business world was developed and students were engaged with this virtual world for identification of business opportunities and promote startups to fulfill existing needs or expand the desire portfolio by coming out with new products or services. Banks and venture capitalists in the virtual world came forward to fund and exit. Students were armed with a base amount of virtual capital to act as buyers of products, services and equity. The base of entrepreneurship was expanded to include social ventures, agri-business and ventures that disrupted the value chain from farm to consumer. Students were mentored by industry experts and periodic visits of startup veterans and industry leaders were arranged. Function specific labs and micro labs within, could catalyze student ideas into prototypes which were then tested through the simulation lab in neighboring communities. Once the entrepreneurial skill development process started rolling, there was a spurt in ideas for business as well as service offering to make life easier for people. Students were mentored to take up different roles in startups before venturing on their own. Society too linked up in projects of their concern. Idea flow and funds flow was sustained as the value chain integrated diverse components of entrepreneurship.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Goa’s magnetism and its promise of a relaxed, almost bohemian lifestyle, have always attracted admirers and colonizers. Before the locals could make up their minds about such interlopers, Covid-19 brought hordes of them to town—Michelle Mendonça Bambawale was one of them. In June 2020, Michelle found herself moving to the 160-year-old house she had inherited in Siolim, a village in North Goa, with her human and canine family. Having never lived in Goa before, she couldn’t help but wonder if her Goan ancestry made her an insider or if she would forever remain an outsider. In this memoir, she confronts her complex relationship with her Goan Catholic heritage and explores themes of identity, culture, migration, stereotypes and labels. She also uncovers some of the uncanniest legends that pervade Siolim, including those of St. Anthony and the Snake, Sao Joao, and the statue of Beethoven. She also takes us back to Siolim and Goa in the 1970s and 1980s, where she spent her summer vacations without paved roads or electricity, pulling water from a well. Today, she dodges reeking septic tankers, earth movers and piling plastic garbage while walking her Labrador, Haruki. Becoming Goan is a heartfelt and charming story of Michelle's love for this land that her grandparents left her. She cares deeply about Goa's biodiversity and is distraught about the environmental impact of tourism, construction and mining. Her devotion to Mother Earth deepens as she learns more about her roots, steeped as they are in syncretic traditions.
