Download or read book India Malaysia and the Philippines written by W. F. Oldham and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from India, Malaysia, and the Philippines: A Practical Study in Missions All these lectures on the Nathan Graves Foundation Of Syracuse University, excepting the one on The Mass Movements in India, were prepared for the undergraduate hearers in Syracuse, New York, before whom they were delivered. A life-long experience with foreign missions and missionaries, broken by periods Of work and Observation in America, has given the lecturer a first-hand acquaintance with the facts he handles. His deductions from these facts are likely to be as faulty as are those of any other fallible man. He would simply say that he has sought to speak the truth as he sees it, and so to present the life and work of the missionary and of those to whom he goes as to bring to the young people who heard him, and to others who may read this book, a vivid pic ture of the conditions that surround this greatest enterprise of the Christian church. If among those who heard or who will read these lectures any may be helped to link him self to this appealing and fruitful work. Book Yearning to Belong

Download or read book Yearning to Belong written by Patrick Pillai and published by Iseas Publishing. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malaysia is among the most ethnically diverse and culturally rich nations on earth. Yet much of its cultural wealth lies buried beneath the rubric of its main Malay, Chinese and Indian "race" categories; the dazzling diversity within and outside these groups remains largely unexplored. This book uncovers some of this fascinating diversity through the stories of five little-known acculturated ethnic groups in Peninsula Malaysia. The author, a Malaysian sociologist, delivers an insightful and lucid study of these groups, with some surprising findings. These communities illustrate how much more cross-cultural mingling, sharing and co-dependence there is within Malaysian society than we care to recognize, admit or celebrate. This raises various questions: Is a similar process of spontaneous inter-ethnic interaction possible between larger ethnic groups today? How can we foster such acculturation, and can it by itself contribute to ethnic harmony? The author also discovers that despite their long settlement and deep acculturation, segments of these groups are anxious about their future, and pine for an indigenous identity. What are the implications of this trend for ethnic relations, and how can it be resolved? This book traces the acculturation journey of these communities and draws lessons for ethnic relations in one of the most complex multi-ethnic nations in the world. It will appeal to scholars, students, laymen and visitors interested in migration, history, culture, ethnicity and heritage in Malaysia and the region.

Book ASEAN PRC and India

Download or read book ASEAN PRC and India written by Asian Development Bank and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asia's remarkable economic performance and transformation since the 1960s has shifted the center of global economic activity toward Asia, in particular toward the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economies, the People's Republic of China, and India (collectively known as ACI). While these dynamic developing economies do not form any specific institutional group, they constitute very large economies and markets. These emerging Asian giants share common boundaries, opportunities, and challenges. Their trade, investment, production, and infrastructure already are significantly integrated and will become more so in the coming decades. This book focuses on the prospects and challenges for growth and transformation of the region's major and rapidly growing emerging economies to 2030. It examines the drivers of growth and development in the ACI economies and the factors that will affect the quality of development. It also explores the links among the ACI economies and how their links may shape regional and global competition and cooperation.

Book The Handbook of Cross Border Ethnic and Religious Affinities

Download or read book The Handbook of Cross Border Ethnic and Religious Affinities written by Charity Butcher and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, ethnic and religious variables are taken into account to explain conflict and relations between nations. However, ethnic and religious groups exist beyond the confines of frontiers. In Africa, for example, hundreds of ethnic groups were divided by colonial borders, and many retained kinship connections to their brethren in other countries, thus creating “cross-border ethnic/religious affinity.” Such cross-border connections affect a variety of foreign policy, from diplomacy to the use of force. An internal problem can spread to other states, or external actors can become involved in domestic disputes due to such factors. Therefore data on cross-border connections are essential to measure and assess their actual or potential effects on foreign policy or conflict. This unique resource serves both qualitative and quantitative researchers. For ease of use, it is divided in sections for each region of world, with the entries organized by pairs of contiguous countries. Each entry for a pair of countries briefly discusses the ethnic and religious groups that are common to both countries and the historical and current connections between these groups. The entries are organized based on the Correlates of War country codes, which are widely used by researchers and allow for country pairs to be organized geographically within each section to facilitate easy use of the data.
