This book was released on 1993 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book opens with the cordiality of the Yoyoi (200 b.c.-250 a.d.) and the Jomon inhabitants of Japan, and covers the material and spiritual culture brought by the Yoyoi, namely, rice and metal culture, fine pottery and weaving basic structure of language, grammar and idiom, religion, rituals and philosophy, calendar, festivals and social customs, tracing their origin to India. Three comparative tabular statements on languages and calendars are given. The author interprets for the first time the Japanese concept of the Sun-Goddess, the Divine Imperial Acestress of Japan, and the kinship of Japanese and Tibetan grammars, and presents a review of the role of Andhra in ancient history. A brief account of life and philosophy of Arya Nagarjuna is also given. The book has a chart of comparable alphabets, two maps, several photos, 120 references, and an Index to persons and places. It brings to light certain hitherto little known aspects of ancient Indo-Japanese relations.

Book An Essay on the Civilisations of India China Japan Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Essay on the Civilisations of India China Japan Classic Reprint written by G. Lowes Dickinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Essay on the Civilisations of India, China Japan Instead of describing my journey in detail I have thought it will be more interesting to offer some reflections on the general spirit and character of the civilisations of India, China, and Japan, and the apparent and probable efiects upon these civilisations of contact with the West. Any conclusions one may arrive at on a subject so comprehensive are, of course, of the most tentative and hazardous kind, and what I set down here is-rather the starting point than the end of an inquiry. I shall not, however, waste time and space in constantly qualifying and apologising for my statements. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Progress of India Japan and China in the Century

Download or read book Progress of India Japan and China in the Century written by Right Hon. Sir Richard Temple and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-05 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Progress of India, Japan, and China in the Century This work relates to two great Continents and one large group of Islands. Consequently it is divided into three Parts - namely, I., India; II., Japan; III., China. I have narrated in a succinct manner the progress during the nineteenth century of three peoples, the Indian with a population of about three hundred millions, the Japanese with a population of nearly forty-five millions, the Chinese with a population of over three hundred and fifty millions; or about seven hundred millions in all. Now if the usually accepted estimate of the population of all countries in the world put together - namely, fourteen hundred millions - approaches the truth, it follows that this work has to summarise the progress of half the human race for a century. The space of time, 1800 to 1899, has been borne in mind. The information in all cases has been brought up to date as nearly as possible, and in many cases up to the time of writing. Moreover these countries have during the century been the scenes of grave, and often complex, events. Each country, too, has undergone momentous changes. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Message of India to Japan: A Lecture When a request comes to me to address a public meeting, I feel very great reluctance to accede to it. For the most part of my life I have cultivated writing poetry, and you know that poetic imagination is a shy bird, it builds its nest in seclusion, away from the eyes of the multitude. But when I feel that it is your kindness which makes it possible for you to offer this request to one who is a stranger to your shores, when I know that this is a graceful way of acknowledging me as your guest, then I cannot but thank you and accept your invitation. Book excerpt: Nihongi: Chronicles of Japan from the Earliest Times to A.D. 697, often called the Nihonshoki, is one of Japan's great classics of literature. Regarded as one of the seminal original authorities on the mythology and ancient history of Japan, it remains as fresh today as when it was written in the eighth century. It provides a vivid picture of a nation in formation. In the Nihongi, we see the growth of national awareness following the assimilation of Buddhism and the general Chinese and Indian influence on Japanese culture. Before its history stretch the mysterious archaeological ages of Jomon and Yayoi. From the first chapter, “The Age of the Gods,” the fantastic world of ancient Japan is laid before us. Ritual myth and superstition meet with bare feet and folk custom. Strong emotions and conflict are seen surging in Japan’s antiquity. Few historical documents are as “human” as the Nihongi. For a thousand years, emperors, scholars, courtiers, and imperial historians have found in the Nihongi knowledge and guidance. It remains a key to early Japan, a gateway to the actual old Japan. The translator of the Nihongi, William George Aston, pioneered the translation of Japanese into English.
