Book The Life of Saint Issa

Download or read book The Life of Saint Issa written by Nicholas Notovitch and published by . This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Notovitch's biography of Saint Issa, in which he asserts that Jesus Christ spent many of his missing years traversing India, is presented here. A Crimean Jewish adventurer and explorer of India, Notovitch traveled widely across the East in the late nineteenth century. He claimed to have discovered a biographical document in Hemis Monastery - located in modern-day India - from which he created this book. The bold and fantastical claims about Christ attracted attention from scholars of Christianity and the popular media of the time. Spotting inconsistencies in Notovitch's account, it was only after being confronted with these that he apparently confessed to having fabricated the biography of Jesus Christ. For some years the entire matter was considered a hoax; until the Indian mystic Swami Abhedananda visited the Hemis Monastery where a monk confirmed that Notovitch had stayed some six weeks there, convalescing with a broken leg, whereupon he read the disputed documents concerning Christ.

Book India and the Gospel Or an Empire for the Messiah Classic Reprint

Download or read book India and the Gospel Or an Empire for the Messiah Classic Reprint written by Wm Clarkson and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from India and the Gospel, or an Empire for the Messiah The Author of these Lectures has been honoured to engage in nine years' active service in the cause of the Redeemer in Western India. During that period, he made himself intimately acquainted with the people by the nearest converse, and the closest associations which their exclusive habits would admit. These Lectures were substantially delivered in February 1849. In preparing the First Lecture, the Author has availed himself of the aid of "Elphinstone." In preparing the Second, he took advantage of several articles in the "Oriental Christian Spectator," written respectively by Rev. Drs. Stevenson and Wilson, of Bombay. To these writers, therefore, as well as all from whose works he may have derived any assistance, he tenders his grateful acknowledgments. He does not apologize for adding to the present store of publications. Infinitely more than he can say is required on behalf of Indian Missions. He only trembles, lest what he writes should be found destitute of that energy and spiritual power which alone can produce an impression on the Churches, and lest, thus, by its very weakness, it should injure the cause. Amidst many voices, he seeks to lift up his voice in a cause wherein all voices are required. Amidst many advocates, he seeks to fulfil a part where all advocacy is demanded. Book The Joy of the Gospel

Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage
