In recent years, entrepreneurship education has become increasingly important in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. It is seen as a strategic way to harness the untapped potential of the country’s “demographic bonus” and to address persistent high youth unemployment. This publication draws on lessons and good practices from incubation centers in three public higher education institutions in Indonesia and an entrepreneurship training model called the Asia Entrepreneurship Training Program. Recommendations look at how similar programs can be improved in other universities, with a focus on management and resources, financial sustainability, mentorship and training, business services and facilities, graduation and post-incubation, and documentation and evaluation.

Several ministries in Indonesia are providing entrepreneurship training to the youth in a move to harness the demographic bonus amid persistently high unemployment rates among young people. Incubation centers in the country's three public higher education institutions and an entrepreneurship training model facilitated by a Swiss-Indonesian start-up accelerator program are explored in this publication. Recommendations focus on strengthening similar programs in other universities, such as management and resources, financial sustainability, mentorship and training, business services and facilities, graduation and post-incubation, and documentation and evaluation.

One of the proactive ways of breaking financial exclusion, social inequality, and social exclusion caused by apathy and avoidance of Riba, Maysir, and Gharar is by recognising, embracing, and promoting Islamic and halal entrepreneurship among the excluded Muslims and lovers of ethical business models. Overall, this book aims to promote better understanding of Islamic and Halal entrepreneurship in order to assist academics, researchers, practitioners, consultants, and policymakers to improve the growth of Islamic startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by improving social inclusion and financial inclusion and accelerating the attainment of SDG 8 and SDG12.

While civil servant positions are still highly sought after, the idea of entrepreneurship and business as careers is becoming more and more popular, especially among young Indonesians. The challenge that the Joko Widodo administration faces is to encourage this new social dynamic without falling into the trap of constructing artificial support programmes. These showed themselves to be counter-productive in the past.
