Book Evaluation of the project Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Plans NAP Ag

Download or read book Evaluation of the project Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Plans NAP Ag written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag) programme, jointly coordinated by UNDP and FAO, worked with eleven countries to identify and integrate climate adaptation measures into national planning and budgeting processes, in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (in particular SDG 2 - Zero Hunger; and SDG 13 - Climate Action) and the Paris Agreement. The evaluation assessed programme relevance and the achievement and sustainability of programme results among other dimensions. The evaluation found that NAP-Ag’s country-driven, multi-sector and multi-level approach allowed for ample engagement of stakeholders, contributed to establish coordination mechanisms and promoted ownership of results. The programme supported the development of institutional capacities; directly influenced the integration of agriculture adaptation options into countries’ plans, practices and policies, and supported countries in accessing climate finance. NAP-Ag also contributed to global climate change adaptation efforts by supporting countries to accomplish the work outlined by UNFCCC. NAP-Ag also influenced the inclusion of gender aspects adaptation options in many countries. FAO should continue promoting the adoption of programme outcomes in countries’ systems and further support countries to mobilize financial support to scale up lessons learned from NAP-Ag. Private sector involvement should be increased to guarantee the implementation of certain climate adaptation options. Strategic stakeholders should be engaged to support gender mainstreaming efforts in agriculture climate adaptation options.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, one of the central tenets of development is the necessity for learning about and building upon stakeholders' and beneficiaries' insights, needs, culture, social organization, resources and active participation. Bridging Diversity clarifies the myriad approaches to social research being used in the World Bank today. The focus is on participatory research as presently practiced and as a potential for forms of research which are not now particularly participatory. It makes a number of recommendations to enhance the utility of social research in and outside of the Bank.

Book Training module How to integrate gender issues in climate smart agriculture projects

Download or read book Training module How to integrate gender issues in climate smart agriculture projects written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the training module is to provide learners with a better understanding of what the gender roles in CSA are and their critical impact on project outcomes and sustainability. The training will teach them about different methods and tools to identify, formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate gender-responsive actions and practices in CSA development projects. Through the training, learners will become familiar with the main concepts of gender, climate change and climate-smart agr iculture. They will also understand the relevance of gender dimensions in climate change adaptation and mitigation and in developing gender-responsive CSA interventions. Furthermore, they will learn the steps to take and tools and approaches available for conducting gender analysis and promoting gender mainstreaming in CSA project design, implementation and monitoring. The manual also presents available gender, climate change and CSA guidelines and other relevant materials to support learners in their work in implementing gender-responsive interventions. This training module provides basic information for organizing a short training workshop to develop gender mainstreaming capacities in CSA-related projects, throughout the whole project cycle. The module mainly focuses on activities in the field. It is important to recognize, however, that gender-responsive CSA development also requires actions at the institutional and policy level as well as changes in the existing social and cultura l norms. The module also provides some recommendations for better integration of gender issues in governments’ CSA policies and strategies.

Book Evaluation of Promotion of climate smart livestock management integrating reversion of land degradation and reduction of desertification risks in vulnerable provinces

Download or read book Evaluation of Promotion of climate smart livestock management integrating reversion of land degradation and reduction of desertification risks in vulnerable provinces written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-12-14 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Ecuador, the livestock sector is essential for food security. It is also an important source of employment and income in provinces with a large presence of small and medium-scale farmers. From May 2020 to October 2020, FAO implemented the project to “reduce soil degradation, and mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the livestock sector of Ecuador”. The project was implemented seven provinces, distributed in three geographic regions of the country (coastal Ecuador, the Andes and Amazon). The project had an impact on public policies, with the incorporation of climate-smart livestock farming as one of the lines of action for the agricultural sector. In terms of technical aspects, the preparation of online tools to monitor GHG emissions and to calculate climate risk and the adaptation capacity of the sector is noteworthy. One void shown in the project, throughout the consultation process with interested parties, was the lack of connections to the market and the private sector. This was not contemplated in the project design and arose as a recurring issue during the implementation

Book Toolkit for value chain analysis and market development integrating climate resilience and gender responsiveness

Download or read book Toolkit for value chain analysis and market development integrating climate resilience and gender responsiveness written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This toolkit aims to help countries in selecting and analysing value chains for opportunities to improve climate change resilience and reduce gender inequalities. It intends to provide policy makers, planners, project developers, technical advisors and implementers at local, regional or national level with good practices of climate-resilient and gender-responsive value chain development. It aims to act as a repository of relevant tools and methodologies for identifying relevant stakeholders and engaging with them to collect data and analyse it to design interventions. Climate change threatens agricultural value chains, and having a gender-responsive value chain approach is useful in analysing the climate risks, as it looks at stages during and beyond production, while using a more systemic approach to risk management.

Book Postharvest Losses Technology And Employment

Download or read book Postharvest Losses Technology And Employment written by Martin Greeley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-09-11 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a Bangladesh case study of the farm-level postharvest system. There are two main objectives. First, to use measured estimates of food loss to test (and reject) the conventional assumptions: that postharvest farm-level food losses are large; that they can be prevented cost-effectively by technical change; and that as a consequence, there will be more food consumption by hungry people. Commonly, none of these assumptions are true and the evidence from Bangladesh, plus supporting evidence from elsewhere, is used to show why they are wrong.

Download or read book Social Assessments for Better Development written by Michael M. Cernea and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This annual report lists and describes the World Bank Group's portfolio of projects designed to improve or protect the environment, all of which were under implementation during fiscal year 1996 (July 1, 1995 to June 30, 1996). The first part of the report discusses significant environmental issues for each sector and region and describes the environmental activities of various parts of the World Bank Group. Boxes, tables, and figures supplement the narrative. A useful bibliography of World Bank publications on environmental topics closes the section. The second part consists of reports on environmentally targeted projects; World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) projects that required a full environmental assessment because of their potential impacts; investment operations supporting projects launched by the Global Environment Facility; and projects designed to help developing countries comply with the Montreal Protocol--a multilateral treaty that controls the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substance.
