The book also includes computer programs used to solve them as well as a diskette which contains computer programs such as Thwaites' method, Hess-Smith panel method, a differential boundary-layer method for both laminar and turbulent flows, Head's method, Michel's method, Shooting method, a stability/transition method based on the e(n)-procedure for predicting transition and finally a differential boundary-layer method for computing laminar and turbulent three-dimensional flows described and discussed in our book.

Book A Navier Stokes Algorithm for Turbulent Flows Using an Unstructured Grid and Flux Difference Splitting

Download or read book A Navier Stokes Algorithm for Turbulent Flows Using an Unstructured Grid and Flux Difference Splitting written by Frédéric Jacon and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "An algorithm has been developed for the two- dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The effects of turbulence are modelled by the standard k - [epsilon] model of Launder and Spalding. The equations are solved using an unstructured grid of triangles with the flow variables stored at the centroids of the cells. The treatment of the inviscid fluxes is performed with Roe's flux difference split method. Turbulent and viscous stresses and heat transfer are obtained from a discrete representation of Gauss's theorem. For the inviscid fluxes, linear reconstruction of the flow variables to the cell faces provides second-order spatial accuracy. Interpolation of the flow variables to the nodes is achieved using a second-order accurate method. A four stage modified Runge-Kutta scheme is employed for the temporal integration providing second-order accuracy in time. The algorithm is applied to an incompressible turbulent far wake, a supersonic turbulent mixing layer and boundary layers over flat plates at Mach numbers of 0.1 and 2.0 using laws of the wall as boundary conditions. Results are in excellent agreement with previous computations."

Book Calculation of Turbulent Boundary Layers with Heat Transfer and Pressure Gradient Utilizing a Compressibility Transformation

Download or read book Calculation of Turbulent Boundary Layers with Heat Transfer and Pressure Gradient Utilizing a Compressibility Transformation written by J. Boccio and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of the incompressible turbulent boundary layer, developing under the combined effects of mass transfer and pressure gradient, is presented in this paper. A strip-integral method is employed whereby two of the three governing equations are obtained by integrating the combined momentum and continuity equation to 50 percent and 100 percent, respectively, of the boundary-layer height. The latter equation is the usual momentum-integral equation; the former equation requires specification of shear. Accordingly, Clauser's equilibrium eddy-viscosity law is assumed valid at this point. The third and final equation is obtained by specifying that Stevenson's velocity profiles apply throughout the domain of interest, from which a skin-friction law can be derived. Comparisons of the numerical results with the experiments of McQuaid, which include combined effects of variable pressure gradient and mass transfer, show good agreement.

Book The Finite Volume Method in Computational Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book The Finite Volume Method in Computational Fluid Dynamics written by F. Moukalled and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-13 with total page 799 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook explores both the theoretical foundation of the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and its applications in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Readers will discover a thorough explanation of the FVM numerics and algorithms used for the simulation of incompressible and compressible fluid flows, along with a detailed examination of the components needed for the development of a collocated unstructured pressure-based CFD solver. Two particular CFD codes are explored. The first is uFVM, a three-dimensional unstructured pressure-based finite volume academic CFD code, implemented within Matlab. The second is OpenFOAM®, an open source framework used in the development of a range of CFD programs for the simulation of industrial scale flow problems. With over 220 figures, numerous examples and more than one hundred exercise on FVM numerics, programming, and applications, this textbook is suitable for use in an introductory course on the FVM, in an advanced course on numerics, and as a reference for CFD programmers and researchers.
