Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Missionary Anecdotes: Sketches, Facts, and Incidents Relating to the State of the Heathen and the Effects of the Gospel in Various Parts of the World As the stock of information at his command is far from exhausted, the author ventures to send forth this little volume in the service of the cause to which his life has been devoted. 'he has endeavoured to make it specially interesting to the large class of young people who are rendering such valuable aid to the mission cause, and he trusts it will also prove helpful to teachers and preachers who are occasionally engaged in advocating missionary enterprise, as well as to general readers. To the divine blessing it is commended, with fervent prayer for its success. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Missionary Enterprise

Download or read book The Missionary Enterprise written by Baron Stow and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Missionary Enterprise: A Collection of Discourses on Christian Missions The task of selection has been, in some instances, peculiarly difficult. Several discourses, of great excellence, have been omit ted, which, perhaps, would have been included, had not circum stances appeared to encourage the expectation, that a second series might be demanded. Should this volume be favorably received, another may succeed, comprising not only sermons, but a rich variety of addresses, essays, and eloquent appeals, all pertaining to the same great subject -christian Missions. Many of this class of productions are too valuable to be left scattered in ephemeral forms, and should be gathered up, and added to the increasing stock of our Missionary literature, and thus made to extend and perpetuate their salutary efficiency. What others undergo for gain or glory, he must brave for a wholly spiritual object, the kindling of new life in the grossest and earthliest types of humanity. But, however much our missionaries may resemble the ideal Greek hero, the revolutions they have wrought are real. These who have turned the world upside down. Book The Missionary Enterprise

Download or read book The Missionary Enterprise written by Edwin Munsell Bliss and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Missionary Enterprise: A Concise History of Its Objects, Methods and Extension A Decade ago the "Concise History of Missions" was written for the purpose of giving in compact form, available for students and those who have not leisure or opportunity for more extended study, a general survey of the progress of foreign missions. With occasion for a new edition, there came up the question of revision. At first it seemed an easy matter. Certain chapters might have to be rewritten, and some additions made, but the greater part would remain essentially the same. Examination, however, showed that this was not true. History is not mere chronicle. Dates remain the same, but with more complete knowledge, and better perspective, the significance of the facts identified with the dates, often changes so completely that the older statement becomes practically incorrect. Especially has this been true of foreign missions. The labours of mission specialists at home, as Drs. Warneck, Geo. Smith, Jas. S. Dennis, Lemuel C.Barnes and others; the contributions of missionaries on the field, as John G.Paton, Arthur H.Smith, Bishop Thoburn, J.P. Jones, H.G. Underwood, and their associates; the marvellous increase in general missionary literature, especially the text-books issued by the various movements; all have combined to increase vastly the amount of information.
