Book Biological Effects and Dosimetry of Nonionizing Radiation

Download or read book Biological Effects and Dosimetry of Nonionizing Radiation written by Martino Gandolfo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last 35 years, there has been considerable develop ment and increase in the number of devices that emit nonionizing radiant energies. These energies such as radiofrequency including microwaves are used in all sectors of our society for military, industrial. telecommunications, medical, and consumer applications. This increase in sources of nonionizing radiant energies has resulted in growing interest on the part of government regulatory agencies, industrial and military physicians, research workers, clinicians, and environmentalists. Although there is information on biologic effects and potential hazards to man from exposure to microwave/radiofrequency energies, considerable confusion and misinformation has permeated not only the public press but also some scientific and technical publications. Because of the complexity of the interactions of nonionizing radiation in biological systems, an inter-disciplinary approach is necessary to assess and elucidate the problems that evolve as this field advances and as the use of these energies expands. It is important to maintain a proper perspective and assess realistically the biomedical effects of these radiant energies so that the worker or general public will not be unduly exposed nor will research, development and beneficial utilization of these energies be hampered or restricted by an undue concern for effects which may be nonexis tent or minimal in comparison to other environmental hazards.

Book Keep True

Download or read book Keep True written by Howard Pawley and published by Univ. of Manitoba Press. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Howard Pawley, former Premier of Manitoba (1981-88) led the province during one of the most turbulent periods in its history. Elected at the outset of a serious national recession, his government successfully implemented social democtatic policies that ran counter to the neo-conservative trends that dominated the period, including job creation, labour reform, and human rights legislation. But his greatest challenge was over French-language rights, an explosive two-year debate that left the province badly divided and embroiled in the complicated maneuvering between the national government and Quebec serparatists. The political and public fallout from the French-language issue echoed through Manitoba's subsequent negotiations with the federal government over a bid for a lucrative CF-18 fighter jet contract, through the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement, and again during the stormy Meech Lake Accord debates. In Keep True: A Life in Politics Pawley takes us into the inner workings of his government during this controversial period. He gives us a vivid play-by-play of the events, acknowledging what went right and what went wrong, while putting it all into a contemporary context. Along the way, he offers insight on campaign management, choosing a cabinet, appointing public servants, and leading by consensus, while describing how the principles of Canadian agrarian socialism shaped his political vision.

Book Enabling Technology for Inclusion

Download or read book Enabling Technology for Inclusion written by Dr Mike Blamires and published by Sage. This book was released on 1999-07-15 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To sum up, the book is well written and is definitely one that was missing from the area of special needs education. The possibilities of technology are changing and the requirements of good practice in responding to a diversity of needs are becoming more demanding than ever. In a period of too much "theorizing" in the area, I was overwhelmed by the range of information, hints, tips and useful advice contained in this book which could be of direct help to those on the "front line." I would strongly recommend the book to teachers, ICT co-ordinators, classroom assistants, therapists as well as parents' - "British Journal of Educational Psychology " If you feel in need of quite a generalized "annual" as a starting point to cover the use of technology with special needs learners then this book may well be of interest' - "Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning "Mike Blamires has edited a useful volume of papers written by colleagues and others engaged in using technology to meet special educational needs.... Overall, this book is well aimed at special needs teachers, ICT coordinators and teachers in mainstream schools and I recommend it' - "Computers and Education "What is enabling technology?; How can enabling technology become a powerful tool for inclusion?; What is inclusion anyway? These are the questions that this book addresses. Enabling Technology for Inclusion is about the leading edge of the best practice. It updates the debate on inclusive education, placing enabling technology within the context of universal design for learning, and innovative thinking about social, physical and cognitive inclusion. This book describes practice as it is now, and what needs to be considered in planning to meet the needs of learners, securing access to appropriate IT, and training those who will be using it. Its message is that technology can enable people to be included within their communities and educational institutions. Technology can provide a temporary or permanent support for learners to establish their voice and achieve things that they could not have done otherwise.Technology can have a powerful role in re-shaping the curriculum. The contributors have extensive expertise in the use of Information Communications Technology as a tool for inclusion in partnership with people with a large diversity of strengths and learning needs. They use this knowledge to enable readers to enhance their own understandings and critical frameworks for the use of these potentially powerful tools for learning and inclusion.
