Book Incestuous Abuse Its Long term Effects

Download or read book Incestuous Abuse Its Long term Effects written by Diana E. H. Russell and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the growing recognition of the prevalence of incest which is challenging traditional views about the family as a safe haven for children, there is a serious paucity of scientific research on incest in South Africa in the new field of family violence. Almost a century after Sigmund Freud dismissed most women's reports of incest victimization as wishful fantasy, the extent of the damage done by this form of abuse remains controversial in South Africa, with some researchers maintaining that incest victims often suffer no severe effects. This report presents the findings of a qualitative study designed to explore the short- and long-term effects of incestuous abuse experienced by 20 adult women incest survivors. Although all but one of the in-depth interviews were conducted with women who at the time were residing in Cape Town, the places in which the incestuous abuse had occurred are dispersed throughout South Africa. The purpose of this study is to inform policy discussions on incestuous abuse, violence in South Africa, and violence against women in general. Includes information on prevalence of incestuous abuse, study methodology, characteristics of incestuous abuse, initial effects abuse; and long-terms effects. The document provides extensive tables and three appendices. (JBJ)

Book Rape Incest and Sexual Harassment

Download or read book Rape Incest and Sexual Harassment written by Nancy L. Carlson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1989-12-11 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A working guide to the treatment of survivors of sexual victimization, this book treats rape, incest, and harassment as related forms of sexual abuse. It reviews present literature on the long-term effects of sexual assault and considers the services and support that survivors require. Covering a wide range of issues and treatment approaches, focus is placed on the older adolescent and adult. The phases of recovery followng sexual abuse are described together with the type of assistance most appropriate at each phase. The authors provide numerous case studies and emphasize the individuality of both survivor and response. This guide should be used by both professional and layperson to help the sexually abused transcend feelings of victimization. Rape, Incest, and Sexual Harassment discusses the issues raised by victimization. It then deals with the immediate aftermath of sexual abuse focusing on crisis intervention and advocacy with respect to emotional, medical, and legal needs. One section, devoted to counselors working with long-term effects on survivors, matches interventions to the individual client's needs and offers models for counseling frameworks. Special needs are also addressed. The book concludes with a look at the larger social problems associated with abuse and violence.

Book Silently Seduced

Download or read book Silently Seduced written by Kenneth M. Adams and published by Health Communications, Inc.. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this revised and updated 20th anniversary edition of his groundbreaking book, Dr. Kenneth Adams, a leading expert on covert incest, sex addiction, and childhood trauma, offers tools for identifying and healing from covert incestuous relationships that affect adult relationships and lives. He explains how 'feeling close' with a parent is not always the source of comfort the phrase suggests, especially when that child is cheated out of a childhood by being a parent's surrogate partner. Dr. Adams includes a new Q&A section that directly addresses issues including: • How can this be incestuous when there is no physical sexual contact? • Why is sexual addiction so common with covert incest survivors? • Why is it so hard for covert incest survivors to commit to romantic relationships? • If my partner is a covert incest survivor, how can I help? • Can I pass covert incest on to my children? Through new findings and expanded discussions on 'engulfment,' 'excessive guilt,' 'loyalty,' and 'narcissism,' and others, Silently Seduced offers a framework to understand covert incest and its effect on sexuality, intimacy, and relationships to facilitate the process of recovery.

Book Long range Effects of Child and Adolescent Sexual Experiences

Download or read book Long range Effects of Child and Adolescent Sexual Experiences written by Allie C. Kilpatrick and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making a unique contribution of placing the current sexual exploitation of children and adolescents firmly in its historical context, this book looks at the family's and society's roles in child and adolescent sex abuse. Unlike most previous studies, this study allows a range of responses from negative to positive and avoids the methodological problems inherent in many other studies. Most studies combine the age groups of children and adolescents, whereas this study separates these different age groups and compares the nature and outcome of sexual experiences of children with those of adolescents. Utilizing sophisticated analytical measures, the author's findings repudiate many commonly held assumptions and serve to calm current hysteria regarding sexual abuse of minors. Written to disseminate findings that could be helpful in realistically confronting the phenomenon of human sexuality, the results presented in this book dispel many current myths about early sexuality, including ethnic differences. The author wanted to separate scientific inquiry from the perpetration of pervading mores or social norms, and identify the real menaces to healthy adult functioning.
