Book In the Shadow of the Cross The Deeper Meaning of Calvary

Download or read book In the Shadow of the Cross The Deeper Meaning of Calvary written by Ray Pritchard and published by Primedia E-launch LLC. This book was released on with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fallen cross stands as a symbol for the spiritual condition of the church of Jesus Christ in the early days of the twenty-first century. In many places and many churches, the cross has fallen to the ground. Instead of boasting in the cross, we have neglected it, substituting in its place religious activity and therapeutic language designed to help us feel better about ourselves...And yet, when the story is truly told, it must be said that Christianity is supremely the religion of the cross. At the center of our faith a dying man hangs suspended between heaven and earth. Pastor Ray Pritchard takes a fresh look at the cross and the God-man on it and asks: who is He? why is He there? what are the words he is speaking? What did the cross mean to God? What did the cross mean to Satan? What does the cross mean to you today? Pastor Ray Pritchard asks these spiritually provocative questions in what will prove to be a spiritual tonic for your soul. Center your world around the anchor of our faith -- the cross. Discover the atonement found where grace and wrath meet. Linger at the foot of the cross.

Book Grace in the Shadow of the Cross

Download or read book Grace in the Shadow of the Cross written by Ann Jorgensen and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grace in the Shadow of the Cross is a creative autobiography about how one little girl's unspeakable abuse became one joyful woman's testimony of healing. This true story is told in three voices: Ann's first-hand experiences are described through the character of Grace (who begins with the name Prophet). Accompanying her voice are those of Father God and Deceiver. Father God speaks mainly through Scriptures but also through private prayer conversations actually experienced by Ann. Deceiver's cruel voice will be all too familiar to abuse survivors. This book is for those who have known abuse as well as those who love them. It is for the broken, the beaten, the humbled, and the humiliated. Ultimately, it's a story of hope that will encourage you-no matter your past pain-that God loves you and desires to heal your heart. Ann Jorgensen is president and cofounder of The Word of Our Testimony, Inc., a ministry devoted to sharing individual stories of God's deliverance. She writes from her home in San Antonio, Texas, and is available for speaking on topics related to abuse and healing.

Book Privilege the Text

  • Author : Abraham Kuruvilla
  • Publisher : Moody Publishers

Download or read book Privilege the Text written by Abraham Kuruvilla and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Privilege the Text! spans the conceptual gap between biblical text and life application by providing a rigorous theological hermeneutic for preaching. Kuruvilla describes the theological entity that is the intermediary between ancient text and modern audience, and defines its crucial function in determining valid application. Based on this hermeneutic, he submits a new mode of reading Scripture for preaching: a Christiconic interpretation of the biblical text, a hermeneutically robust way to understand the depiction of the Second Person of the Trinity in Scripture. In addition, Kuruvilla’s work provides a substantive theology of spiritual formation through preaching: what it means to obey God, the Christian’s responsibility to undertake “faith-full” obedience to divine demand, and the incentives for such obedience—all integral to understanding the sermonic movement from text to application. Privilege the Text! promises to be useful not only for preachers, and students and teachers of homiletics, but for all who are interested in the exposition of Scripture that culminates in application for the glory of God.

Book Christ in the Tabernacle

Download or read book Christ in the Tabernacle written by Louis T. Talbot and published by Solid Christian Books. This book was released on 2014-08-30 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHEN God told Moses to build the tabernacle in the wilderness, according to the pattern which He showed him in the mount, He said: “Speak unto the children of Israel . . . And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them” (Exodus 25:2, 25:8). When the inspired apostle explained the spiritual significance of this, God's dwelling place among His people, Israel, He said to the Hebrew Christians: “We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man” (Hebrews 8:1-2). These words from the New Testament not only give us the Holy Spirit's commentary on the meaning of the tabernacle in the wilderness; but they are the key that unlocks a vast treasure of spiritual truth regarding the “earthly sanctuary” which Moses built, in order that God might dwell among His people. If we would understand the New Testament teaching concerning this Jewish tabernacle, which was “a shadow of good things to come” (Hebrews 10:1), we should compare the Exodus record with the Epistle to the Hebrews, especially chapters eight and nine, which deal with the tabernacle in particular, though primarily with the ministry of Christ, our Great High Priest, in “the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” This comparison of the Old Testament with the New will unfold to us “The Glories of Christ As Foreshadowed in the Jewish Tabernacle.” Yea, it will reveal to us the wonders of the prophetic Scriptures, wherein the Holy Spirit “testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow” (1Peter 1:11). In connection with the typical significance of the Jewish tabernacle, we have one of the many clear proofs that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed; whereas the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. Jehovah of the Old Testament is Jesus of the New. And the Triune God gave to Israel the tabernacle, the priesthood, and the offerings, in order that sinful man might recognize the promised Saviour, and understand the significance of His mission and death.
