Download or read book In the shade of Shakespeare Vol 11 written by RON S KING and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This small book is the second book of one hundred sonnets which stand in the shade of Shakespeare. I write this because I am only a shadow of the 'Bards' pen and, in all my years of writing and reading poetry, I have not yet seen anyone to match his craft. I hope you enjoyed the first volume of my Sonnets and I trust you will find the same enjoyment in this book and might reasonably await the next volume with a same appreciation. I thank you for your time and wish you a happy reading. Ron S King.
Download or read book A shade of Shakespeare A book of Sonnets written by RON S KING and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-10-14 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have entitled this book of some 300 Sonnets... 'A SHADE OF SHAKESPEARE'. This stems from my admiration for the 'Bard' and his works. If it's said that I have tried to imitate his style then, of course I have. It is soon noticed that, while each sonnet does have three quatrains and an ending couplet, while each line has ten syllables to each, I do not borrow the need of any iambic pentameters. In this light I would call my sonnets 'Contemporary Sonnets.' This work covers the three small books of 100 sonnets in each which are already out there in public domain. I trust that you read and enjoy this book and find it a delicate company during an evening's read. Ron S King.
Download or read book After Evil written by Robert Meister and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The way in which mainstream human rights discourse speaks of such evils as the Holocaust, slavery, or apartheid puts them solidly in the past. Its elaborate techniques of "transitional" justice encourage future generations to move forward by creating a false assumption of closure, enabling those who are guilty to elude responsibility. This approach to history, common to late-twentieth-century humanitarianism, doesn't presuppose that evil ends when justice begins. Rather, it assumes that a time before justice is the moment to put evil in the past. Merging examples from literature and history, Robert Meister confronts the problem of closure and the resolution of historical injustice. He boldly challenges the empty moral logic of "never again" or the theoretical reduction of evil to a cycle of violence and counterviolence, broken only once evil is remembered for what it was. Meister criticizes such methods for their deferral of justice and susceptibility to exploitation and elaborates the flawed moral logic of "never again" in relation to Auschwitz and its evolution into a twenty-first-century doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect.

Download or read book The Collected Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge Volume 11 written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 963 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2 of 2. Coleridge's Shorter Works and Fragments brings together a number of substantial essays that were not long enough to require volumes to themselves, among them his "Theory of Life," "Essays on the Principles of Genial Criticism," "Treatise on Method," "Confessions of an Inquiring Spirit," "On the Passions," and "On the Prometheus of Aeschylus." To these are added more than four hundred other pieces, some of them fragementary, many of them previously unpublished, ranging in date from school essays of the early 1790s to a discussion of the bullion controversy in 1834. As might be expected, the subject matter includes literature and language, theology, philosophy, politics, and science, but in many less predicatble topics (such as child labor laws, marriage, suicide, church history, the abolition of slavery, the state of the colonies) also appear. By gathering this material and presenting it in chronological order, Shorter Works and Fragments reveals the development and major characteristics of Coleridge's seemingly inexhaustible variety. H.J. Jackson and J.R. de J. Jackson, Professors of English at the University of Toronto, are the editors of Coleridge's Marginalia and Logic, respectively, in the Collected Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Download or read book Sylvia Plath Day by Day Volume 2 written by Carl Rollyson and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2024-08-15 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since her death in 1963, Sylvia Plath has become an endless source of fascination for a wide audience, ranging from readers of The Bell Jar, her semiautobiographical novel, to her groundbreaking poetry as exemplified by Ariel. Beyond her writing, however, interest in Plath was also fueled in part by the nature of her death—a suicide while she was estranged from her husband, Ted Hughes, who was himself a noteworthy British poet. As a result, a steady stream of biographies of Plath, projecting an array of points of view about their subject, has appeared over the last fifty-five years. Now biographer Carl Rollyson, the author of two previous biographical studies of Plath, has surveyed the vast amount of material on Plath, including her biographies, her autobiographical writings, and previously unpublished material, and distilled that data into the two volumes of Sylvia Plath Day by Day. As the follow-up to volume 1, volume 2 commences on February 14, 1955, the day Plath wrote to her mother declaring her intention to study in England, a decision that marked a major turning point in her life. With brief signposts provided by the author, this volume follows Plath through the entirety of her marriage to Hughes, the challenges of simultaneously raising a family and nourishing her own creativity, and the major depressive episodes that ultimately led to her suicide in 1963. By providing new angles and perspectives on the life of one of the twentieth century’s most celebrated poets, Sylvia Plath Day by Day offers a comprehensive image of its enigmatic subject.
