Making Room in Our Hearts offers an intimate look at how these relationships evolve over time, with real-life stories from families who have experienced open adoption first-hand. This book helps both adoptive and birth parents address their fears and concerns, while offering them the support to put the child’s psychological and spiritual needs at the center of adoption. Based on interviews with more than one hundred adopted children, birth and adoptive parents, extended families, professionals and experts, the book is an effective and invaluable resource for those considering open adoption, those experiencing it, and professionals in the field. Openness has altered the landscape of adoption, and Making Room in Our Hearts will help us catch up to the reality that is open adoption today.

Book Room in our Hearts and Other Stories

Download or read book Room in our Hearts and Other Stories written by K L Chowdhury and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-07-10 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are the tales of our times, of ordinary people, their joys and sorrows, their hopes and fears, their beliefs and doubts, and their desire to get along in life in spite of multiple challenges. Of people who have been uprooted from their homes and are trying to find their moorings again, of the people they left behind, and of the unbreakable bonds that connect them in spite of the forces of disruption and discord. KL Chowdhury draws upon his experiences as a physician and a keen observer of people to present this colourful bouquet. The author's sympathetic eye and humanity shine through each of these stories. The duality of human nature-the good and bad, the indulgence and indifference, the trust and skepticism, the love and hatred-resonates in all the stories and make Room in Our Hearts a riveting read. KL Chowdhury's first two volumes of short stories-Faith and Frenzy and Why Don't You Convert?-have won much critical acclaim, and this third collection is even finer.

Book Walking in the Wilderness

Download or read book Walking in the Wilderness written by Beth A. Richardson and published by Upper Room Books. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People of faith are struggling these days as they watch unbelievable events unfold. The United States, once a refuge for immigrants, has closed its borders to many of the world's most vulnerable citizens. Fear of people different from us has created an atmosphere of hatred, incivility, and violence. We are living in a time of wilderness and exile. Yet the wilderness is a familiar place for those who follow Jesus. Like Jesus, we spend 40 days in the wilderness. During Lent God calls us to examine ourselves, repent, and make room in our lives for the Holy One. Walking in the Wilderness is meant to be a companion for readers' journey through Lent. It may be studied by individuals or groups. The book includes daily reflections for Ash Wednesday through Easter. Sunday of each week introduces a spiritual practice for the wilderness. The practices for the six Sundays of Lent are Being Present, Lament, Lectio Divina, Trust, Compassion, and Hospitality. Each reading contains a quotation from an Upper Room resource, a short scripture passage, an insightful reflection and prayer written by Richardson, and a single word for readers to carry with them throughout the day. "We come hungry to this season of Lent," Richardson writes, "hungry for words of life, for rituals of preparation, for disciplines to help us on our way." Walking in the Wilderness provides a spiritual feast for readers during the longest season of the Christian year.

Book Dur e as Einstein in the Heart

Download or read book Dur e as Einstein in the Heart written by Candice Lee Kent and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-29 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Durée as Einstein-in-the-Heart traces the trajectory of modernist interaction with Bergson and Einstein through the works of Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) and Mary Butts (1890–1937). It presents an overview of critical approaches that focus on time in Woolf’s novels, and that foreground Bergson in their analyses of Woolf. It then examines how Woolf’s formal experimentation, and theorisation of time, in Jacob’s Room (1922) and Mrs Dalloway (1925) relates to Bergson’s temporal theories. This is followed by a discussion on the role Bergson’s thinking played in the early formulation of Butts’s ideas of time, and an analysis of how Bergson’s ideas emerge in the short story ‘Angele au Couvent’ (1923), concluding by highlighting points of contrast in the engagements of Woolf and Butts. The book then documents the growth of Butts’s interest in Einstein’s ideas and shows how she amalgamates these with Bergson’s thinking in her journals and in the most intense of her fictional engagement with Einstein’s ideas, the novel Death of Felicity Taverner (1932). It discusses Butts’s responses to the popular science genre and examines the important role played by J. W. N. Sullivan and Arthur Eddington in the development of her understanding, and interpretation, of physics. It concludes with a discussion of Butts’s antisemitic characterisation of Kralin, as purveyor of corrupted science, in contrast with the Taverners, who are conscious of durée and delight in the abstractions of scientific truth.
