This book provides an insight into the ideas of the ancient Vedic tradition and how they might be applied to contemporary life. An excellent survey, I would certainly recommend it to those eager to consider a spiritual perspective on their life and career. - Dr. Herbert Daly, Senior Lecturer, Maths & Computer Science, University of Wolverhampton, UK. Convincingly explains how to drop the ego and realize the presence of the Sentient Life Energy that is giving us life every moment and also shows us the way to experience this all-important Sentient Life Energy. - Dr. Dillibabu Vijayakumar, Scientist, DRDO, Bangalore, India. Exist as mass of Consciousness. Exist as Sentient Life Energy. Exist as Silent Awareness. For that "Be Silent". "Just Be". The goal of Vedanta can't be expressed in any simpler terms than this. - Dr. Veerappa Gowda, Professor, TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics, Bangalore, India. Book Social Mobility In Kerala

Download or read book Social Mobility In Kerala written by Filippo Osella and published by Pluto Press. This book was released on 2000-12-20 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Filippo and Caroline Osella, anthropologists who spent three years in rural Kerala, south India, write about the modern search for upward social mobility: the processes involved, the ideologies that support or thwart it, and what happens to the people involved. They focus on the caste called Izhavas, a group that in the mid-19th century consisted of a small land-owning and titled elite and a large mass of landless and small tenants who were largely illiterate and considered untouchable, and who eked out a living by manual labor and petty trade. In the 20th century, Izhavas pursued mobility in many social arenas, both as a newly united caste and as families. The work considers how successful the mobility has been and looks at the effects on their society of an ethos of progress. Distributed by Stylus. Book Pata jali s Yoga Sutra Yogic Power through Samadhi Sidhis

Download or read book Pata jali s Yoga Sutra Yogic Power through Samadhi Sidhis written by Jan Müller and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-07-10 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Yoga Sutra, the classical work on yoga, Patañjali summarizes the purpose of human existence in 195 concise sutras. They are intended as a curriculum and memory aid for the expert and can be recited in 25 minutes. His telegraphic style and the ambiguity of the Sanskrit terms lead to the fact that the Yoga Sutra is translated again and again anew and interpreted differently due to the personal experiences of the authors. In the translation of this issue, the keyword character of the sutras is retained and the explanatory commentary is illustrated by examples of the author’s own experiences from over 50 years of practical application of yoga techniques. "The purpose of every system of Yoga is to first get Samadhi and then stabilize it and let it find fulfilment in Unity. Yoga means union. When the mind gets united with Being, this is the state of Yoga. Union is union of the individuality with the cosmic unboundedness. Union is in Samadhi. And Dhyan (meditation) leads to Samadhi. Dhyan is that which takes the mind from the field of gross experience to the subtle experience, takes it to the quietude of the transcendental area. Dhyan or meditation is a direct way to Samadhi which is Yoga." – Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Book Death and the Regeneration of Life

Download or read book Death and the Regeneration of Life written by Maurice Bloch and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1982-12-30 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a classical anthropological paradox that symbols of rebirth and fertility are frequently found in funerary rituals throughout the world. The original essays collected here re-examine this phenomenon through insights from China, India, New Guinea, Latin America, and Africa. The contributors, each a specialist in one of these areas, have worked in close collaboration to produce a genuinely innovative theoretical approach to the study of the symbolism surrounding death, an outline of which is provided in an important introduction by the editors. The major concern of the volume is the way in which funerary rituals dramatically transform the image of life as a dialectic flux involving exchange and transaction, marriage and procreation, into an image of a still, transcendental order in which oppositions such as those between self and other, wife-giver and wife-taker, Brahmin and untouchable, birth and therefore death have been abolished. This transformation often involves a general devaluation of biology, and, particularly, of sexuality, which is contrasted with a more spiritual and controlled source of life. The role of women, who are frequently associated with biological processes, mourning and death pollution, is often predominant in funerary rituals, and in examining this book makes a further contribution to the understanding of the symbolism of gender. The death rituals and the symbolism of rebirth are also analysed in the context of the political processes of the different societies considered, and it is argued that social order and political organisation may be legitimated through an exploitation of the emotions and biology.
