Download or read book The Way Expanded Paperback Edition written by Adam Hamilton and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2012-12-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel with Adam Hamilton as he retraces the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Once again, Hamilton approaches his subject matter with thoughtfulness and wisdom, just as he did with Jesus’ crucifixion in 24 Hours That Changed the World and with Jesus’ birth in The Journey. Read The Way on your own or, for a more in-depth study, enjoy it with a small group or part of a 40-day church-wide emphasis during Lent and Easter or anytime of the year. Using historical information, archaeological data, and stories of the faith, Hamilton follows in the footsteps of Jesus from his baptism to the temptations to the heart of his ministry, including the people he loved, the parables he taught, the enemies he made, and the healing he brought. This 40-day focus will help you and your group grow deeper in their faith, learn more about the life of Christ, spend time daily reading and reflecting upon the Scriptures, and invite families, through the children’s and youth studies, to grow together in their faith. Additional resources include a DVD, devotional, youth and children editions, and a worship download to help with sermon planning. Book THE FIRST AND SECOND BOOKS OF ADAM AND EVE

Download or read book THE FIRST AND SECOND BOOKS OF ADAM AND EVE written by Anon E Mouse and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2013-06-28 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two books contained in this volume are considered by many scholars to be part of the "Pseudepigrapha" and form part of “The Forgotten Books of Eden” edited by Rutherford H. Platt, Jr. These books are a written account of what happened to Adam and Eve in the days of after they were cast out of the Garden of Eden. The First Book of Adam and Eve details the life and times of Adam and Eve in the period immediately following their expulsion from the Garden of Eden to the time that Cain slays his brother Abel. It tells of Adam and Eve's first dwelling in the Cave of Treasures; their trials and temptations; and of Satan's many apparitions to them. It also tells of the birth of Cain, Abel, and their twin sisters; and of Cain's love for his beautiful twin sister, Luluwa, whom Adam and Eve wished to be joined to Abel The Second Book of Adam and Eve gives an account of the life and times of Cain and his twin Sister Luluwa after they went away until the time that Enoch was taken by God. The "Pseudepigrapha" is a collection of historical biblical works that are considered to be fiction. Because of this, this book was not included in the compilation of the Christian Bible. Although considered to be Pseudepigrapha by some, it carries significant meaning and insight into events of that time. In order to put these two books into perspective, one has to ask how, and why, these writings have survived through the centuries and if they are as unsubstantial as many righteous scholars claim them to be?

Book Adam Eve and the Serpent

Download or read book Adam Eve and the Serpent written by Elaine Pagels and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-10-05 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A National Book Award winner and New York Times bestselling author deepens and refreshes our view of early Christianity while casting a disturbing light on the evolution of the attitudes passed down to us. "Confirms her reputation as both a scholar and a popular interpreter.... Continuously rewarding and illuminating." —The New York Times How did the early Christians come to believe that sex was inherently sinful? When did the Fall of Adam become synonymous with the fall of humanity? What turned Christianity from a dissident sect that championed the integrity of the individual and the idea of free will into the bulwark of a new imperial order—with the central belief that human beings cannot not choose to sin? In this provocative masterpiece of historical scholarship Elaine Pagels re-creates the controversies that racked the early church as it confronted the riddles of sexuality, freedom, and sin as embodied in the story of Genesis. And she shows how what was once heresy came to shape our own attitudes toward the body and the soul.

Book The Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve

Download or read book The Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve written by Stephen Greenblatt and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Endlessly illuminating and a sheer pleasure to read.” —Jack Miles, author of God: A Biography Daring to take the great biblical account of human origins seriously, but without credulity The most influential story in Western cultural history, the biblical account of Adam and Eve is now treated either as the sacred possession of the faithful or as the butt of secular jokes. Here, acclaimed scholar Stephen Greenblatt explores it with profound appreciation for its cultural and psychological power as literature. From the birth of the Hebrew Bible to the awe-inspiring contributions of Augustine, Dürer, and Milton in bringing Adam and Eve to vivid life, Greenblatt unpacks the story’s many interpretations and consequences over time. Rich allegory, vicious misogyny, deep moral insight, narrow literalism, and some of the greatest triumphs of art and literature: all can be counted as children of our “first” parents.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the first morning in the Garden of Eden as the creatures of the forest awaken to see something beautiful and different lying among them. As all the angels in the heavenly realm watch with great anticipation, the Creator breathes into the nostrils of the still body. Suddenly, the creature begins to move. Adam, who has been given life, is the first man and is created in the very image and likeness of God. After Adam comes to understand the gift of life and love with help from the Father, God takes him by the hand and shows him the garden paradise created just for him. As Adam and God part for the night, Adam lies down to sleep, marveling at the power of his Creator and the beauty surrounding him. On the seventh day, God introduces Adam to the fruits of the garden and a woman created from his very own rib. But just as Adam and Eve realize their love for each other, a black force emerges to test everything they know and understand about Gods love, life and nature. In this historical novel, actual and imagined events weave together to bring to light the meanings and truths behind the story of the first Adam. The Adam Chronicles transports readers into a realm where they can see, feel, touch, and smell the beginning of Gods mighty journey with humankind. Mark Winheld, Author and Literary Critic
