Book Platinum Resistance Thermometry

Download or read book Platinum Resistance Thermometry written by John L. Riddle and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph describes the methods and equipment employed at the National Bureau of Standards for calibrating standard platinum resistance thermometers (SPRT) on the International Practical Temperature Scale (IPTS-68).The official text of the scale is clarified and characteristics of the scale are described.Several designs of SPRT's are shown and discussed in the light of the requirements and recommendations on the text of the IPTS-68.Possible sources of error such as those due to the internal and external self-heating effects and the immersion characteristics of SPRT's are described in detail.Precautions and limitations for the mechanical and thermal treatment and for the shipment of SPRT's are indicated, and a guide is given for those desiring the thermometer calibration services of NBS.(Modified author abstract).

Book Method for In situ Restoration of Plantinum Resistance Thermometer Calibration

Download or read book Method for In situ Restoration of Plantinum Resistance Thermometer Calibration written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is provided for in-situ restoration of platinum resistance thermometers (PRT's) that have undergone surface oxide contamination and/or strain-related damage causing decalibration. The method, which may be automated using a programmed computer control arrangement, consists of applying a dc heating current to the resistive sensing element of the PRT of sufficient magnitude to heat the element to an annealing temperature and maintaining the temperature for a specified period to restore the element to a stress-free calibration condition. The process anneals the sensing element of the PRT without subjecting the entire PRT assembly to the annealing temperature and may be used in the periodic maintenance of installed PRT's.

Book Platinum Resistance Thermometer Calibration on the International Practical Temperature Scale of 1968 182 962 to 630 74 C PRT68 Code

Download or read book Platinum Resistance Thermometer Calibration on the International Practical Temperature Scale of 1968 182 962 to 630 74 C PRT68 Code written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method using the defined equations of the International Practical Temperature Scale of 1968 (IPTS-68) for calibrating platinum resistance thermometers in the range from -182.962 to +630.74°C is described. Incorporating the specified IPTS-68 procedure, the method also provides for the accommodation of additional data points in both the negative and positive scale regions at any desired temperature level. The PRT68 computer program, also described and illustrated, was written in FORTRAN language for the CDC-6600 computer to implement this method.

Book In Situ Calibration of Nuclear Plant Resistance Thermometers Using Johnson Noise Draft

Download or read book In Situ Calibration of Nuclear Plant Resistance Thermometers Using Johnson Noise Draft written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods have been demonstrated in operating nuclear plants for the in situ calibration of resistance thermometers with agreement between measured noise temperatures and dc calibration temperatures well within these required by the plant. A comparison of the results of Johnson noise power testing results and uncertainties, the requirements for accuracy, and PRT calibration tolerances is shown. The methods use Johnson noise measurements and provide an absolute calibration independent of the prior dc calibration. The methods include techniques for characterization of the installed extension cables and the quantitative determination of induced EMI and its effect on the calibration. The techniques are applicable to ordinary 4-wire platinum resistance thermometers operating over their entire design temperature range and to extension cables of about 100 ft length. Careful attention needs to be paid to the choice or cables, location of terminal boxes, and grounding and shielding practices in the plant installation to achieve comparable results.

Book Methods of Seawater Analysis

Download or read book Methods of Seawater Analysis written by Klaus Grasshoff and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-07-30 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the book first appeared in 1976, Methods of Seawater Analysis has found widespread acceptance as a reliable and detailed source of information. Its second extended and revised edition published in 1983 reflected the rapid pace of instrumental and methodological evolution in the preceding years. The development has lost nothing of its momentum, and many methods and procedures still suffering their teething troubles then have now matured into dependable tools for the analyst. This is especially evident for trace and ultra-trace analyses of organic and inorganic seawater constituents which have diversified considerably and now require more space for their description than before. Methods to determine volatile halocarbons, dimethyl sulphide, photosynthetic pigments and natural radioactive tracers have been added as well as applications of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and various electrochemical methods for trace metal analysis. Another method not previously described deals with the determination of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide as part of standardised procedures to describe the marine CO2 system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metrology is the study of measurement. It includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement and may be divided into three subfields: Scientific or fundamental metrology concerns the establishment of measurement units, unit systems, development of new measurement methods, realization of measurement standards and the transfer of traceability from these standards to users in society. This handbook contains articles dealing with general topics of measurement and articles on particular subjects in mechanics and acoustics, electricity, optics, temperature, time and frequency, chemistry, medicine and particles. The contributions of the first part are sumamrized as follows. Introduction Units Fundamental Constants Fundamentals of Materials Measurement and Testing Measurement of Mass Desnity Measurement and Instrumentation of Flow Ultrasonics Measurement of Basic Electromagnetic Quantities Quantum Electrical Standards Metrology of Time and Frequency Temperature Measurement Metrology in Medicine
