Book Gave a am Or On the Track of the Cow And In Search of the Mysterious Word And In Search of the Hidden Light

Download or read book Gave a am Or On the Track of the Cow And In Search of the Mysterious Word And In Search of the Hidden Light written by Sebastian J. Carri and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2000 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gavesanam deals with the Vedic discourse on many levels. It is mostly with the Rgvedic and the Yajurvedic texts, that is, with the hymns and the ritual texts, that it does so. The work shows a search for an insight into the highly cultivated poetic mind of the Rsis, which displays mystery and myth, knowledge and secrecy in their creations. The first two chapters illustrate with some clarity the method which is adopted in order to come to grips with a few of the symbolic and metaphorical, mythic and ritualistic texts and lays the foundation for the rest of the essay. The approach is interpretive and, therefore, necessarily speculative. In the main, the procedure is neither classificatory nor descriptive of the texts, since many scholars have done excellent work in this manner. The present exercise highlights the importance of the Vedic Ida, the Vedic World, the Vedic gods and goddesses like the Mitravaruna, Agni, Vak, Visnu, Sarasvat, Soma, and so on, from an interpretive point of view. A few figures make comprehension easier and more concrete. The work as a whole may be considered to be a long essay of progressive approximations, which means that the thoughts that are presented have to be corrected and complemented by further approximations in a truly academic and scientific spirit. Such an effort opens a new way for a better understanding and appreciation of the Vedic and the post-Vedic literature and culture.

Book In Search of Indian English

Download or read book In Search of Indian English written by Ranjan Kumar Auddy and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a historical account of the development of an acrolectal variety of the English language in colonial India. It highlights the phenomenon of Indianization of the English language and its significance in the articulation of the Indian identity in pre-Independence India. This volume also discusses the sociocultural milieu in which English became the first choice for writers and political leaders. Using examples primarily from the writings of Rammohan Roy, Bankimchandra, Krupabai Satthianadhan, and Gandhi and from the speeches of Vivekananda, Tagore, and Subhas Bose, this book argues that prose written in English in the nineteenth and the early twentieth century scripted a nationalist discourse through its appropriation of the colonizer’s language. It also examines how these works, which absorbed elements of Indian culture and languages, paved the path for the emergence of Indian English as a distinct dialect of the English language. This book will be useful for teachers, scholars, and students of English literature, linguistics, and cultural studies. It will also be of use to general readers interested in the history of the English language and the history of modern India.

Book excerpt: The storyline in this book follows the protagonist, Sam, a Psychiatrist practicing in Brisbane, living with his partner, through his recurrent dreams and visions, which relate to missing a chunk of his childhood. As he tries to unpack his lost youth with the help of his family and friends, it slowly becomes clear to Sam his childhood was psychologically dissected for a reason, which soon becomes his singular mission. As he starts unraveling his past, strange visions and experiences start occurring. This leads to a unique transformation, not without its own challenges, nearly destabilising Sam’s mental and physical health. His lost childhood is gradually unpacked through experimental narcoanalysis and frequent dissociative episodes. As the story progresses, Sam returns to his roots to find answers. Little does he know he is a mere pawn in a much bigger game involving politics, money, greed, and lust. As he also discovers more about the source of his index trauma, his life is suddenly tossed around in the stormy sea of guilt, paranormal experiences, threats of death and dying, and glimpses of hope and salvation. ‘Dying to Live’ remains the cornerstone of this narrative with its’ inevitable twists and turns, forays into Sam’s conscious and unconscious mind, and his singular-mindedness to get to the truth! Inevitably, this gripping narrative culminates in a truly uncharacteristic ending...

Book An Outline of the Aryan Civilization

Download or read book An Outline of the Aryan Civilization written by R.N. Nandi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a first of its kind, this book attempts a comprehensive account of the old Vedic society with particular focus on the physical conditions of life during the Bronze Age in north western South Asia. Based primarily on textual evidence, the narrative relates wherever necessary to the known archaeological information from the area. With territorial kingdoms, walled urban places, specialized production of craft goods, large scale trade by land and sea, a broad spectrum service sector and a high end surplus producing peasant economy supporting all of these situates the Aryan discourse on an entirely different platform. The book shows that the Aryans of the Rigveda with diverse forms of speech, physical features and funerary behaviour were far from the monolithic concept of a single people and a single culture. Hopefully, the book will help readers to escape the broad misinformation long circulating in history texts for schools, general readers and specialists. Extensive citations are also intended to enable interested readers to access the text on their own and ascertain for themselves what is true and what is false.
