Book In Search of a Better Belief System

Download or read book In Search of a Better Belief System written by Walt F. J. Goodridge and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-01-16 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is part of The Integrated Life(TM) series. THE CONCEPT: "In the pursuit of economic survival, bodily sustenance and social acceptance, people often (1) disregard their passion in order to focus on a practical career, (2) allow their diet to undermine their health, and (3) deny their sexual and gender wiring in order to conform to societal concepts of relationship. Therein lies the majority of unhappiness in our modern life." The solution is to live the integrated life! Take the Integrated Life(TM) online test at http: //www.integratedlifetest.com and discover how integrated these areas of your life are! Then, read the book to learn what to do about it! **** Just because a large number of people believe in a thing, does not make that thing right or make it truth. People around the world are waking up to that realization as they witness the contradictions, hypocrisy and outright lies in every segment of our society.. We see that those we entrust to guide us spiritually and morally, are themselves spiritually and morally bankrupt. We see those we elect to lead us selflessly as a society, acting as self-interested individuals. We see those we expect to safeguard our financial and economic security squandering it freely for their personal enrichment. We see medicines being sold to the public despite known harmful effects, and that those we educate in order to heal us, are knowingly and willfully harming us. We see those who seek political office legislating based on their own belief systems and agendas and enacting laws despite public opinion and the will of the people they are elected to serve. Why do we allow these deceptions and betrayals to continue? We do so because we are trapped in our belief systems. However, a belief system is a choice. Perhaps it's time to make a different choice. Perhaps it's time to go in search of a better belief system. Specific beliefs about self, and the world you live in can help you remain focused, stay positive, keep motivated, act in line with your values and ethical code, roll with the punches, recognize opportunities, overcome obstacles, interpret setbacks, decipher clues, keep your own counsel, and create the outcomes and results you desire. Isn't that what a belief system is supposed to do for you?

Book In Search of a Better Belief System

Download or read book In Search of a Better Belief System written by Walt F.J. Goodridge and published by a company called W. This book was released on 2021-06-09 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a belief system? A belief system is a set of ideas about the physical, mental and spiritual components of life, and what you hold to be true about yourself, others, the world you live in, the reason for your existence, and why you are here. The reason for having a belief system—any belief system—is to help you navigate and negotiate your way effectively through life. Life is simpler provided you have the “correct” belief system. The correlation between having the correct belief system and with happiness and success in life is simple: People with a valid belief system—one that is in synch with reality—make better decisions. Without the correct assessment of reality, the world will not make sense, and you will make poor survival decisions. The process of education and maturing is (or at least should be) about developing an increasingly truthful, effective and “correct” belief system. Sadly, not all belief systems are created equal. Some belief systems are empowering while some belief systems are limiting. Some are so utterly out of synch and out of touch with reality that they lead to utter disappointment and failure. So, how do you determine which kind of belief system you have?

Book A Lapsed Anarchist s Approach to The Power of Beliefs in Business

Download or read book A Lapsed Anarchist s Approach to The Power of Beliefs in Business written by Ari Weinzweig and published by Zingerman's Press. This book was released on 2016-07-14 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ari’s new book is the culmination of a lifetime of learning and thirty four years in business, the last three of which have been spent intensively studying, reflecting on, and writing about the critical role of beliefs in the businesses and organizations of which we’re a part. The fruits of that labor are now available in this new 600-page book. We could tell you more about what's in the book but we think John U. Bacon, author of the New York Times' bestseller, Endzone: The Rise, Fall and Return of Michigan Football, said it better than we ever could! “Some business leaders know practice. Some know theory. Ari Weinzweig is one of the few who knows both. He has built a famously successful organization, while giving it more thought than do the business gurus who merely philosophize about such things. The insights Ari shares here are both deeply perceptive and highly practical, from the ideas of Howard Zinn, Viktor Frankl and Anais Nin on one page, to the importance of learning your employees’ names on the next. Like its author, this book is uncommonly smart, helpful, and just plain fun.”

Book excerpt: The Believing Brain is bestselling author Michael Shermer's comprehensive and provocative theory on how beliefs are born, formed, reinforced, challenged, changed, and extinguished. In this work synthesizing thirty years of research, psychologist, historian of science, and the world's best-known skeptic Michael Shermer upends the traditional thinking about how humans form beliefs about the world. Simply put, beliefs come first and explanations for beliefs follow. The brain, Shermer argues, is a belief engine. From sensory data flowing in through the senses, the brain naturally begins to look for and find patterns, and then infuses those patterns with meaning. Our brains connect the dots of our world into meaningful patterns that explain why things happen, and these patterns become beliefs. Once beliefs are formed the brain begins to look for and find confirmatory evidence in support of those beliefs, which accelerates the process of reinforcing them, and round and round the process goes in a positive-feedback loop of belief confirmation. Shermer outlines the numerous cognitive tools our brains engage to reinforce our beliefs as truths. Interlaced with his theory of belief, Shermer provides countless real-world examples of how this process operates, from politics, economics, and religion to conspiracy theories, the supernatural, and the paranormal. Ultimately, he demonstrates why science is the best tool ever devised to determine whether or not a belief matches reality.

Book The Neural Basis of Human Belief Systems

Download or read book The Neural Basis of Human Belief Systems written by Frank Krueger and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the everyday understanding of belief susceptible to scientific investigation? Belief is one of the most commonly used, yet unexplained terms in neuroscience. Beliefs can be seen as forms of mental representations and one of the building blocks of our conscious thoughts. This book provides an interdisciplinary overview of what we currently know about the neural basis of human belief systems, and how different belief systems are implemented in the human brain. The chapters in this volume explain how the neural correlates of beliefs mediate a range of explicit and implicit behaviours ranging from moral decision making, to the practice of religion. Drawing inferences from philosophy, psychology, psychiatry, religion, and cognitive neuroscience, the book has important implications for understanding how different belief systems are implemented in the human brain, and outlines the directions which research on the cognitive neuroscience of beliefs should take in the future. The Neural Basis of Human Belief Systems will be of great interest to researchers in the fields of psychology, philosophy, psychiatry, and cognitive neuroscience.

Book excerpt: This is a book about science, religion, and the world in between. I was born into a Christian family, but fell out of religion and in love with the scientific method. I had little need of faith, I thought, when science could tell me so much more about the world, and ask so little of me in return. But as I aged into young adulthood, a new chapter of my story began. Did I really know why I believed what I believed? How could I be so certain of my convictions when I hadn't even honestly considered the evidence? This book traces my journey through the furthest reaches of thought, a journey that took me through the realms of psychology, biology, physics, and belief. Could I find a place for faith in the modern world? Or was I right to cast it off as I did?
