Book Through My Eyes

Download or read book Through My Eyes written by Gabriela Cortes and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-03-12 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone in the world has felt pain, whether it be from heartbreak, rejection, punishment, or loss. Everyone feels pain. Imagine your closest friend, the one person you always rely on, trying to kill you. Once you realize that's what Ana is, it shocks you.As naive as I was at the beginning, I see the truth now, and I'm trying to shed light on it so that others can see it too. My mother always tells me to envision a white light coving me when I'm scared. For a year, I ignored this light, and I let the darkness consume me. I believed it was my friend because everyone else had left or betrayed me in some way before. I trusted nobody. They had all caused me pain. I read somewhere that the reason so many people long for this darkness is that when the light goes away, even your shadow leaves you. One of my biggest fears is people leaving because I'm not good enough or pretty enough or up to their standards. This may be a reason I tried to change in the first place—for another reason for people to like me. Much later, I realized that many people leave you regardless, and the only person that is not temporary in your life is you.I wrote this book so you know that you are not alone. I still find comfort in that darkness, and you can too. Something that has never left me is words. These are mine. Even though so many people now don't have a voice, I am trying to speak up because, for so many years, I couldn't. I was shunned by society and by the people around me. I tried to scream, but nothing would come out, just silence. For a long time, I've been trapped in my silence. This is why I'm always speaking, so people don't get bored. I'm here to break that silence because we all have voices and opinions and things to say. The world is as you see it. Events are as you take them, and life is as you make of it. Live your life and feel what you feel. Don't think you can't be sad. You can. I don't like it when people tell me to "be happy." It's not always possible. Worry, cry, laugh, love, and, most importantly, live.

Those touched by the Fellowship face a choice: how will they adjust to the world they were taught to fear, and how will they relate to the cult's last crusader, Lark? For Kane, survival means rejecting the magic he and his lover suffered for. For Deryn, the cult's collapse is an opportunity to prove they are worth as much as their Anointed brother. For Calvin, lark is the alluring embodiment of the magic he's been seeking his entire life. But for Lark, the Fellowship isn’t over. Download or read book The Weight of Numbers written by Simon Ings and published by Grove/Atlantic, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-12-01 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Like Don DeLillo’s Underworld, Simon Ings’s remarkable new work delivers nothing less than a secret key, a counter-history, of the last sixty years.”—Mark Costello, author of Big If The Weight of Numbers describes the metamorphosis of three people: Anthony Burden, a mathematical genius destroyed by the beauty of numbers; Saul Cogan, transformed from prankster idealist to trafficker in the poor and dispossessed; and Stacey Chavez, ex-teenage celebrity and mediocre performance artist, hungry for fame and starved of love. All are haunted by Nick Jinks, a malevolent curse of a man who seems to be everywhere at once. As a grid of connections emerge between a dusty philosophical society in London and an African revolution, between international container shipping and celebrity-hosted exposés on the problems of the Third World—this novel sends the specters of the Baby Boom’s liberal revolutions floating into the unreal estate of globalization and media overload—with a deadly payoff. The Weight of Numbers is an artful and deadly novel that traces the secret histories and paranoid fantasies of our culture into a future globalized in ways both liberating and hideous, full of information and empty of meaning. Simon Ings has delivered a storytelling tour de force that will alter some of your most cherished beliefs. “[A] Pynchon-on-speed romp . . . Ings’s mad, mad world is held together to the very last page by humor, vivid depictions and a deeply compelling emotional core.”—Publishers Weekly “A Scheherazade of a novel, executed with scope, daring, and humor. The Weight of Numbers is unerringly well written, and engrossing to the last page.”—Lionel Shriver, bestselling author of We Need to Talk About Kevin
