Book excerpt: "No End" is a piece written by Canadian music journalist and longtime Ark friend, Christian Patrick. Utilizing unprecedented access to the band for nearly six years, Patrick retells an amazing story in lurid detail of one of Sweden's greatest rock and roll bands. It includes the complete history of The Ark 1991-2011 and describes in intimate detail the humble beginnings of the band in Rottne and... Växjö to its quest for success in Malmö. It takes you on a journey through the eyes of six men - Ola Salo, Martin Axén, Sylvester Schlegel, Jens Andersson, Leari and Jepson - who epitomize the true meaning of "rock star". "No End" explains the band's domination of Sweden's press, fans' hearts, and charts. Ultimately, the book looks closely at the band's attempt to crack America and what ultimately went wrong, its 2007 success at Melodifestivalen and its appearance in the most unlikely of places - Eurovision. It is a tale of dreams realized and lives changed. Five albums filled with hopes and fears. Ultimately, it is a story of a band that has No End.

Book Getting It Having It Keeping It Up

Download or read book Getting It Having It Keeping It Up written by Beth Montemurro and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-10 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars and social critics are looking at gender and sexuality, as well as masculinity, in new ways and with more attention to the way cultural ideologies affect men’s and women’s lives. With the rise of an online “incel” (involuntarily celibate) community and the perpetration of acts of violence in their name, as well as increased awareness about the complexities of sexual interaction brought to the fore by the #metoo movement, it has become critical to discuss how men’s sexuality and masculinity are related, as well as the way men feel about the messages they get about being a man. Prior research on masculinity and masculine sexuality has examined the experiences of adolescent boys. But what happens to boys as they become men and as many move away from homo-social environments into sexual relationships? What happens when they no longer have a crowd of peers to posture or perform for? How do their sexual experiences and sexual selves change? How do they prove their masculinity in a society that demands it when they are no longer surrounded by peers? And how do they cultivate sexual selves and sexual self-confidence in a culture that expects them to always already be knowledgeable, desiring sexual subjects? In Getting It, Having It, Keeping It Up, Beth Montemurro explores the cultivation of heterosexual men’s sexual selves. Based on detailed, in-depth interviews with a large, diverse group of heterosexual men between the ages of 20 and 68, she investigates how getting sex, having sex, and keeping up their sex lives matters to men. Ultimately, Montemurro uncovers the tension between public, cultural narratives about hetero-masculinity and men’s private, sexual selves and their intimate experiences.

Book excerpt: My name is Isaac A. Jacobson. I am just a humble servant of Jesus Christ, another sinner save by the blood of Jesus and the grace of God. I have been a student of the Bible for about 25 years now, with the Holy Spirit instructing me in the spirit of truth. God has placed a burning passion within me to teach the unadulterated truth concerning His Holy word. Several times over the past 25 years I attended a seminary college and could never complete the course to earn a degree. The one thing that I did learn was how to study the word of God, so I now deliver to you in this book those things that the Holy Spirit have revealed to me. Prayerfully I will soon be able to return to a Seminary Collage so that I may learn to preach the gospel of Christ. If you desire spiritual enlightenment, this book is for you. What the Holy Spirit has reveled to me, I just couldn't keep it to myself. Prayerfully you'll feel to same after reading this book. God Bless! Sincerely, Isaac A. Jacobson

Book Take and Eat From Fall to Feast

Download or read book Take and Eat From Fall to Feast written by TK Dunn and published by Energion Publications. This book was released on 2024-11-12 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many doorways that can be used to enter and engage with the storyline of the Bible. In this book, TK Dunn traces the theme of "take and eat" across the pages of Scripture to demonstrate that many of the critical events in redemptive history are marked by uses of food. From God's bountiful provision in Eden through the celebratory feast of the New Jerusalem, Dunn explores how God uses meals as a symbolic method of teaching his people about grace, mercy, justice, holiness, and redemption. This Biblical Theological feast is designed to provide a unique and captivating analysis of God's activity in his created realm by interacting with his people in a manner that they could both experience and understand. The contract of the Fallen Adam with the Final Adam sits at the heart of the gospel and it is therefore not surprising that the "take and eat" motif is present in the lives of both Adam and Jesus. Seeing Jesus' obedience as an inversion of Adam's failure, Dunn demonstrates how Christ is not only the fulfillment of the Old Testament's hopes and promises, but also the one who restores and renews all things by the unwinding of the Fall. By considering how God uses these moments to progressively reveal more about his work of salvation through Christ, Dunn provides a theological buffet that will entice the unbeliever to "taste and see that the Lord is good" and also satisfy the believer who is eagerly anticipating the day when Christ will sit and feast with his beloved church at the end of time.

Book excerpt: As seen on PBS's American Spring LIVE, the award-winning author of Buzz and Feathers presents a natural and human history of seeds, the marvels of the plant kingdom. "The genius of Hanson's fascinating, inspiring, and entertaining book stems from the fact that it is not about how all kinds of things grow from seeds; it is about the seeds themselves." -- Mark Kurlansky, New York Times Book Review We live in a world of seeds. From our morning toast to the cotton in our clothes, they are quite literally the stuff and staff of life: supporting diets, economies, and civilizations around the globe. Just as the search for nutmeg and pepper drove the Age of Discovery, coffee beans fueled the Enlightenment and cottonseed sparked the Industrial Revolution. Seeds are fundamental objects of beauty, evolutionary wonders, and simple fascinations. Yet, despite their importance, seeds are often seen as commonplace, their extraordinary natural and human histories overlooked. Thanks to this stunning new book, they can be overlooked no more. This is a book of knowledge, adventure, and wonder, spun by an award-winning writer with both the charm of a fireside story-teller and the hard-won expertise of a field biologist. A fascinating scientific adventure, it is essential reading for anyone who loves to see a plant grow.
