Book Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation

Download or read book Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation written by Leszek Szczecinski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-16 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting a thorough overview of bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM), this book introduces the tools for the analysis and design of BICM transceivers. It explains in details the functioning principles of BICM and proposes a refined probabilistic modeling of the reliability metrics–the so-called L-values–which are at the core of the BICM receivers. Alternatives for transceiver design based on these models are then studied. Providing new insights into the analysis of BICM, this book is unique in its approach, providing a general framework for analysis and design, focusing on communication theoretic aspects of BICM transceivers. It adopts a tutorial approach, explains the problems in simple terms with the aid of multiple examples and case studies, and provides solutions using accessible mathematical tools. The book will be an excellent resource for researchers in academia and industry: graduate students, academics, development engineers, and R & D managers. Key Features: Presents an introduction to BICM, placing it in the context of other coded modulation schemes Offers explanations of the functioning principles and design alternatives Provides a unique approach, focusing on communication theory aspects Shows examples and case studies to illustrate analysis and design of BICM Adopts a tutorial approach, explaining the problems in simple terms and presenting solutions using accessible mathematical tools

Book Capacity Aspects of Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation

Book excerpt: Space-time block codes are a recently discovered, attractive modulation scheme for multiple antenna wireless channels. They are capable of providing full diversity over fading channels, at the same time requiring only low computational costs. Over the last few years, several distinct approaches to designing space-time codes have been proposed in the literature, including the layeredarchitecture, trellis codes, turbo codes and the orthogonal designs. Most work on space-time coding has focused on the problem of designing codes to perform well under quasi-static fading conditions. In practice, it is not unusual for a cellular handset to experience conditions which range from fast fading to nearly static within seconds (e.g., a vehicle suddenly braking). It is therefore of interest to design codes that are robust in the sense, that they perform well under a wide variety of channel fading conditions. A robust coding architecture called Bit-Interleaved Space-Time Coded Modulation is proposed for channels with multiple transmit and receive antennas. It is designed to perform well under a wide variety of channel fading conditions and which (when differentially encoded) does not require accurate channel estimates at the receiver. The architecture combines serial concatenation of short, full-diversity space-time block codes (inner code) with bit-interleaved coded modulation. This thesis examines the capacity aspects of this architecture namely, the ergodic capacity, the outage capacity and the ergodic and outage cut-off rates in Rayleigh flat-fading channels. It is shown that, if the inner block codes are chosen properly, not only is the capacity close to the information-theoretic limits, but also a better tradeoff between performance and coding complexity can be obtained.

Book A Primer on Physical Layer Network Coding

Download or read book A Primer on Physical Layer Network Coding written by Soung Liew and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of physical-layer network coding (PNC) was proposed in 2006 for application in wireless networks. Since then it has developed into a subfield of communications and networking with a wide following. This book is a primer on PNC. It is the outcome of a set of lecture notes for a course for beginning graduate students at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The target audience is expected to have some prior background knowledge in communication theory and wireless communications, but not working knowledge at the research level. Indeed, a goal of this book/course is to allow the reader to gain a deeper appreciation of the various nuances of wireless communications and networking by focusing on problems arising from the study of PNC. Specifically, we introduce the tools and techniques needed to solve problems in PNC, and many of these tools and techniques are drawn from the more general disciplines of signal processing, communications, and networking: PNC is used as a pivot to learn about the fundamentals of signal processing techniques and wireless communications in general. We feel that such a problem-centric approach will give the reader a more in-depth understanding of these disciplines and allow him/her to see first-hand how the techniques of these disciplines can be applied to solve real research problems. As a primer, this book does not cover many advanced materials related to PNC. PNC is an active research field and many new results will no doubt be forthcoming in the near future. We believe that this book will provide a good contextual framework for the interpretation of these advanced results should the reader decide to probe further into the field of PNC.
