Book In Lies We Trust

Download or read book In Lies We Trust written by Ed Brodow and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What politicians and the media don't want you to know. Millions of Americans at both ends of the political spectrum are angry and fed up with being lied to by politicians and the media. The emergence of “outsider” presidential candidates Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders is proof that people are sick and tired of Washington’s culture of deception. Thumbing his nose at political correctness, negotiation expert and political commentator Ed Brodow exposes the outrageous lies that have been disseminated about the most important issues of our time. He tells the uncensored truth about the threat of Islamic extremism, global warming, the welfare entitlement system, Obamacare, racial tension and other important things that our elected representatives don’t want you to know. If you vote in national elections, the candor of In Lies We Trust will help you make decisions based on facts instead of misinformation.

Download or read book In AI We Trust written by Helga Nowotny and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-08-19 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most persistent concerns about the future is whether it will be dominated by the predictive algorithms of AI – and, if so, what this will mean for our behaviour, for our institutions and for what it means to be human. AI changes our experience of time and the future and challenges our identities, yet we are blinded by its efficiency and fail to understand how it affects us. At the heart of our trust in AI lies a paradox: we leverage AI to increase our control over the future and uncertainty, while at the same time the performativity of AI, the power it has to make us act in the ways it predicts, reduces our agency over the future. This happens when we forget that that we humans have created the digital technologies to which we attribute agency. These developments also challenge the narrative of progress, which played such a central role in modernity and is based on the hubris of total control. We are now moving into an era where this control is limited as AI monitors our actions, posing the threat of surveillance, but also offering the opportunity to reappropriate control and transform it into care. As we try to adjust to a world in which algorithms, robots and avatars play an ever-increasing role, we need to understand better the limitations of AI and how their predictions affect our agency, while at the same time having the courage to embrace the uncertainty of the future.

Book In Mike We Trust

Book excerpt: Honesty. He wanted it. He craved it. He could barely remember what it was. When Garth's uncle comes to visit, he's like a breath of very needed fresh air. Mike is laid-back and relaxed—and willing to accept Garth for who he is, without question. For the first time in a long while, Garth feels like he's around someone who understands him. But before long Garth is helping Mike with some pretty mysterious things and finds himself keeping secrets from everyone around him. He's forced to wonder: Is his uncle Mike really who he says he is, and can Garth trust him? More importantly, can Garth trust the person he's becoming? P. E. Ryan has crafted a clever and compelling novel that asks the question: How far will you go for your family, to find yourself?

Book Lies We Believe About God

Download or read book Lies We Believe About God written by Wm. Paul Young and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the bestselling novel The Shack and the New York Times bestsellers Cross Roads and Eve comes a compelling, conversational exploration of twenty-eight assumptions about God—assumptions that just might be keeping us from experiencing His unconditional, all-encompassing love. In his wildly popular novels, Wm. Paul Young portrayed the Triune God in ways that challenged our thinking—sometimes upending long-held beliefs, but always centered in the eternal, all-encompassing nature of God’s love. Now, in Wm. Paul Young’s first nonfiction book, he invites us to revisit our assumptions about God—this time using the Bible, theological discussion, and personal anecdotes. Paul encourages us to think through beliefs we’ve presumed to be true and consider whether some might actually be false. Expounding on the compassion fans felt from the “Papa” portrayed in The Shack—now a major film starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer—Paul encourages you to think anew about important issues including sin, religion, hell, politics, identity, creation, human rights, and helping us discover God’s deep and abiding love.
