This book was released on 2016-09-29 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines the first two stories in the JANANJA short stories book series. Love and hate in equal measure is a story about family, love and loss. It explores childhood innocence and the ease with which it is stolen away. It is a journey back into the past and the truth that is hidden between the lies. A story about struggle, life and the past. Rose tinted glasses is the second book in the JANANJA series of short stories. A young upwardly mobile woman is reveling in her recent successes. She is watching the news and having a conversation with her cactus. Sneering and scoffing at each story. Suddenly she hears a soft voice that puts in check her short moment of pride. A voice from her childhood. A voice that lets in memories she has long buried. Memories of sacrifice.

Download or read book Order and Chaos in Dynamical Astronomy written by George Contopoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is one of the first to provide a general overview of order and chaos in dynamical astronomy. The progress of the theory of chaos has a profound impact on galactic dynamics. It has even invaded celestial mechanics, since chaos was found in the solar system which in the past was considered as a prototype of order. The book provides a unifying approach to these topics from an author who has spent more than 50 years of research in the field. The first part treats order and chaos in general. The other two parts deal with order and chaos in galaxies and with other applications in dynamical astronomy, ranging from celestial mechanics to general relativity and cosmology.

Download or read book The Cardinal Virtues written by Saint Thomas (Aquinas) and published by PIMS. This book was released on 2004 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "These translations from the Latin works of Thomas Aquinas, Albert the Great, and Philip the Chancellor concentrate on the four cardinal virtues - prudence, justice, courage, and temperance - first identified by Plato as essential requirements for living a happy and morally good life." "An historical introduction traces the development of the doctrine of four cardinal virtues from Greek philosophy through the thirteenth century. The treatment isolates three stages in this development: (1) Greek and Roman Philosophi: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, early Stoics, Cicero, and Seneca; (2) early Christian Sancti: Ambrose, Jerome, Augustine, and Gregory; and (3) medieval schoolmen (Magistri): Master Peter Lombard, Philip the Chancellor, Albert, and Aquinas."--BOOK JACKET
Download or read book Do All Persons Have Equal Moral Worth written by Uwe Steinhoff and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In present-day political and moral philosophy the idea that all persons are in some way moral equals is an almost universal premise, with its defenders often claiming that philosophical positions that reject the principle of equal respect and concern do not deserve to be taken seriously. This has led to relatively few attempts to clarify, or indeed justify, 'basic equality' and the principle of equal respect and concern. Such clarification and justification, however, would be direly needed. After all, the ideas, for instance, that Adolf Hitler and Nelson Mandela have equal moral worth, or that a rape victim owes equal respect and concern to both her rapist and to her own caring brother, seem to be utterly implausible. Thus, if someone insists on the truth of such ideas, he or she owes his or her audience an explanation. The authors in this volume-which breaks new ground by engaging egalitarians and anti-egalitarians in a genuine dialogue-attempt to shed light into the dark. They try to clarify the concepts of "basic equality", "equal moral worth","equal respect and concern", "dignity," etc; and they try to (partially) justify-or to refute-the resulting clarified doctrines. The volume thus demonstrates that the claim that all persons have equal moral worth, are owed equal concern and respect, or have the same rights is anything but obvious. This finding has not only significant philosophical but also political implications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part II systematically develops a fully temporal theory of meter that engages a variety of interpretive possibilities open to the performer. Here analyses of music from the early 17th century to the mid-20th century demonstrate the explanatory power of the theory and address broader issues of musical rhythm. The concluding chapters open the theory to more general questions of musical experience and its theoretical representation.

Download or read book Wisdom in Transition written by Samuel L. Adams and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume considers a major shift among Jewish sages during the Second Temple period, as certain authors moved from an earthly focus to a belief in individual immortality. Egyptian instructions and the book of Proverbs are examined for necessary background. The colorful responses of Qoheleth and Ben Sira to an emergent belief in the afterlife are also discussed. 4QInstruction, the largest Wisdom text from the Dead Sea Scrolls corpus, demonstrates this shift to an eschatological understanding. This book considers the diverse reasons for the changes that one finds in 4QInstruction, especially the issue of social context. It will prove useful to those interested in Wisdom literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls, apocalypticism, and the development of beliefs in the afterlife.
