Book Sharing a Vision

Download or read book Sharing a Vision written by Dezhen Song and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-01-23 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the dawn of the new millennium, robotics has undergone a major transf- mation in scope and dimensions. This expansion has been brought about by the maturity of the ?eld and the advances in its related technologies. From a largely dominant industrial focus, robotics has been rapidly expanding into the challenges of the human world. The new generation of robots is expected to safely and dependably co-habitat with humans in homes, workplaces, and c- munities, providing support in services, entertainment, education, healthcare, manufacturing, and assistance. Beyond its impact on physical robots, the body of knowledge robotics has produced is revealing a much wider rangeof applications reaching across diverse research areas and scienti?c disciplines, such as: biomechanics, haptics, n- rosciences, virtual simulation, animation, surgery, and sensor networks among others. In return, the challenges of the new emerging areas are proving an ab- dant source of stimulation and insights for the ?eld of robotics. It is indeed at the intersection of disciplines that the most striking advances happen. The goal of the series of Springer Tracts in Advanced Robotics (STAR) is to bring, in a timely fashion, the latest advances and developments in robotics on thebasisoftheirsigni?canceandquality.Itisourhopethatthewiderdissemi- tion of research developments will stimulate more exchanges and collaborations among the research community and contribute to further advancement of this rapidly growing ?eld.

Book A Diplomat in Japan Part II

Download or read book A Diplomat in Japan Part II written by Ernest Mason Satow and published by Ian Ruxton. This book was released on 2009-08-17 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sir Ernest Satow's well-known best-seller "A Diplomat in Japan" (first published in 1921) which is still widely available in paperback is based mainly on his diaries ("journals") for 1862-69. The unabridged diaries in this volume, carefully transcribed from original documents held at the U.K. National Archives and published for the first time on lulu.com, tell the story of Ernest Satow's subsequent years in Japan (and home leaves in Britain, France, Germany and Italy) up until the start of 1883. This fully annotated book includes an introduction by former U.K. Ambassador to Japan Sir Hugh Cortazzi, six black & white illustrations, a map, a select bibliogaphy, a chronology and an index. (This book is part of a series in which some of the extensive and hitherto unpublished Satow Papers are being made available in print to scholars and the general reading public by Ian Ruxton.)

Book Intelligent Autonomous Systems 16

Download or read book Intelligent Autonomous Systems 16 written by Marcelo H. Ang Jr and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-07 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the latest advances and research achievements in the fields of autonomous robots and intelligent systems, presented at the IAS-16 conference, conducted virtually in Singapore, from 22 to 25 June 2021. IAS is a common platform for an exchange and sharing of ideas among the international scientific research and technical community on some of the main trends of robotics and autonomous systems: navigation, machine learning, computer vision, control, and robot design—as well as a wide range of applications. IAS-16 reflects the rise of machine learning and deep learning developments in the robotics field, as employed in a variety of applications and systems. All contributions were selected using a rigorous peer-reviewed process to ensure their scientific quality. Despite the challenge of organising a conference during a pandemic, the IAS biennial conference remains an essential venue for the robotics and autonomous systems community ever since its inception in 1986. Download or read book Omnidirectional Vision written by Pascal Vasseur and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Omnidirectional cameras, vision sensors that can capture 360° images, have in recent years had growing success in computer vision, robotics and the entertainment industry. In fact, modern omnidirectional cameras are compact, lightweight and inexpensive, and are thus being integrated in an increasing number of robotic platforms and consumer devices. However, the special format of output data requires tools that are appropriate for camera calibration, signal analysis and image interpretation. This book is divided into six chapters written by world-renowned scholars. In a rigorous yet accessible way, the mathematical foundation of omnidirectional vision is presented, from image geometry and camera calibration to image processing for central and non-central panoramic systems. Special emphasis is given to fisheye cameras and catadioptric systems, which combine mirrors with lenses. The main applications of omnidirectional vision, including 3D scene reconstruction and robot localization and navigation, are also surveyed. Finally, the recent trend towards AI-infused methods (deep learning architectures) and other emerging research directions are discussed.
