Download or read book Improving Life written by William C. Jarvis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to present a way that a person may always have improvement in the quality of life through bringing attention to living the characteristics of the "Fruit of the Spirit" established in Galatians 5:22-23. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." There are suggested ideas for implementing the traits of the Fruit of the Spirit in daily life. Charts are provided to record progress on this implementation for personal reflection and/or small group discussion. A person leans on faith in moments of crisis. If a person consciously makes the characteristics of the "fruit of the spirit" an ongoing response to all situations in life, he will become stronger in his faith and get the best out of life. There is unlimited power when a person has a faith that results in these qualities. Improvement in a person's life can be outward; that is, seen by others. It can also be experienced by the way a person thinks or psychological improvement in a person's personal outlook on life. This can happen, even if there is limited physical improvement; although many studies support the fact that an optimistic outlook has a definite positive impact on physical healing. Faith implies a positive attitude that believes one will always improve, even if very small, until the day one dies. In summary, every person can continually improve his or her life by living by the qualities of the "Fruit of the Spirit" love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. When you make these qualities a part of everyday life, life becomes the best it can be. This book is an explanation of each characteristic with the challenge and opportunity to implement each as a part of a person's experience. There is also an original oil painting by Dr. Jarvis to represent each characteristic.
Download or read book Harnessing the Power of Technology to Improve Lives written by P. Cudd and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 1156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lives of people with disabilities are complex and various, and there are many situations where technology – particularly assistive technology – already makes a real difference. It is clear that smart phone and tablet computer based solutions continue to enhance the independence of many users, but it is also important that more traditional assistive technologies and services are not forgotten or neglected. This book presents the proceedings of the 14th conference of the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE 2017) entitled: ‘Harnessing the power of technology to improve lives’, held in Sheffield, UK, in September 2017. This 4-day event about assistive technologies (AT) highlights the association’s interest in innovating not only technology, but also services, and addresses the global challenge of meeting the needs of the increasing number of people who could benefit from assistive technology. The 200+ papers in the book are grouped under 30 subject headings, and include contributions on a wide range of topical subjects, including aging well and dementia; care robotics; eHealth and apps; innovations; universal design; sport; and disordered speech. The breadth of the AAATE conference reflects people’s life needs and so the book is sure to contain something of interest to all those whose work involves the design, development and use of assistive technology, whatever the situation. The photo on the front cover illustrates the breadth of assistive technologies that can improve lives. Photographer: Simon Butler.

Download or read book Better Spending for Better Lives written by Alejandro Izquierdo and published by Inter-American Development Bank. This book was released on 2018-09-16 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can this puzzle of larger demands and fiscal strengthening be solved? This edition of the development in the Americas (DIA) report focuses precisely on this question. The book suggests that the answer is about fiscal efficiency and smart spending rather than the standard solution of across-the-board spending cuts to achieve fiscal sustainability— sometimes at great cost for society. It is about doing more with less. · Analysis of government spending in Latin America and the Caribbean reveals widespread waste and inefficiencies that could be as large as 4.4 percent of the region’s GDP, showing there is ample room to improve basic services without necessarily spending more resources. · The publication argues against across-the-board cuts. It looks at whether countries spend too much or too little on different priorities, whether they invest enough to ensure a better future, and whether those expenditures make inequality better or worse. · Along with the diagnosis, the report offers several policy recommendations on how to improve the efficiency of government spending.

This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The publication provides policy analysis and guidance on the use of market-based instruments and the complex links between water security and other policy objectives, such as food security, energy security, climate mitigation and biodiversity protection.
