Book The Boundary Element Method Volume 1

Download or read book The Boundary Element Method Volume 1 written by L. C. Wrobel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002-04-22 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The boundary element method (BEM) is a modern numerical techniquewhich has enjoyed increasing popularity over the last two decades, and is now an established alternative to traditional computationalmethods of engineering analysis. The main advantage of the BEM isits unique ability to provide a complete solution in terms ofboundary values only, with substantial savings in modelling effort. This two-volume book set is designed to provide the readers with acomprehensive and up-to-date account of the boundary element methodand its application to solving engineering problems. Each volume isa self-contained book including a substantial amount of materialnot previously covered by other text books on the subject. Volume 1covers applications to heat transfer, acoustics, electrochemistryand fluid mechanics problems, while volume 2 concentrates on solidsand structures, describing applications to elasticity, plasticity, elastodynamics, fracture mechanics and contact analysis. The earlychapters are designed as a teaching text for final yearundergraduate courses. Both volumes reflect the experience of theauthors over a period of more than twenty years of boundary element research. This volume, Applications in Thermo-Fluids and Acoustics, provides acomprehensive presentation of the BEM from fundamentals to advancedengineering applications and encompasses: Steady and transient heat transfer Potential and viscous fluid flows Frequency and time-domain acoustics Corrosion and other electrochemical problems. A unique feature of this book is an in-depth presentation of BEMformulations in all the above fields, including detaileddiscussions of the basic theory, numerical algorithms and practicalengineering applications of the method. Written by an internationally recognised authority in the field, this is essential reading for postgraduates, researchers andpractitioners in civil, mechanical and chemical engineering andapplied mathematics.

Book Domain Decomposition Techniques for Boundary Elements

Download or read book Domain Decomposition Techniques for Boundary Elements written by L. Škerget and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sub-domain techniques in the BEM are nowadays finding its place in the toolbox of numerical modellers, especially when dealing with complex 3D problems. We see their main application in conjunction with the classical BEM approach, which is based on a single domain, when part of the domain needs to be solved using a single domain approach, the classical BEM, and part needs to be solved using a domain approach. This has usually been done in the past by coupling the BEM with the FEM, however, it is much more efficient to use a combination of the BEM and a BEM sub-domain technique. The advantage arises from the simplicity of coupling the single domain and multi-domain solutions, and from the fact that only one formulation needs to be developed, rather than two separate formulations based on different techniques. There are still possibilities for improving the BEM sub-domain techniques. However, considering the increased interest and research in this approach we believe that BEM sub-domain techniques will become a logical choice in the future substituting the FEM whenever an efficient solution requires coupling of the BEM with a domain technique.

Book Nonlinear Flow Using Dual Reciprocity

Download or read book Nonlinear Flow Using Dual Reciprocity written by W. F. Florez and published by Computational Mechanics. This book was released on 2001 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to introduce a boundary integral method based on domain partition for the solution of nonlinear fluid mechanics problems including non-Newtonian applications. In the present work, the Dual Reciprocity Method has been improved by paritioning the domain into smaller sub-domains, and in each sub-domain the Dual Reciprocity Method was applied to obtain an expression for the velocity field only in terms of boundary integrals. Several numerical examples are presented including Newtonian flow at high Reynolds numbers and non Newtonian flow of polymers inside complex geometry.

Book Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method

Download or read book Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method written by P.W. Partridge and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The boundary element method (BEM) is now a well-established numerical technique which provides an efficient alternative to the prevailing finite difference and finite element methods for the solution of a wide range of engineering problems. The main advantage of the BEM is its unique ability to provide a complete problem solution in terms of boundary values only, with substantial savings in computer time and data preparation effort. An initial restriction of the BEM was that the fundamental solution to the original partial differential equation was required in order to obtain an equivalent boundary in tegral equation. Another was that non-homogeneous terms accounting for effects such as distributed loads were included in the formulation by means of domain integrals, thus making the technique lose the attraction of its "boundary-only" character. Many different approaches have been developed to overcome these problems. It is our opinion that the most successful so far is the dual reciprocity method (DRM), which is the subject matter of this book. The basic idea behind this approach is to employ a fundamental solution corresponding to a simpler equation and to treat the remaining terms, as well as other non-homogeneous terms in the original equation, through a procedure which involves a series expansion using global approximating functions and the application of reciprocity principles.
