Nor will the reader find in it a chronological narrative of the events of his career. Those who wish to know these chronological facts are referred to his own Auto biography; to the forthcoming Life and Letters by Mr. Joseph Bucklin Bishop, who was named by Mr. Roosevelt as its authorized editor; to the in troduction, notes, and appendices which I furnished for his volume of African and European Address; and to the article on Theodore Roosevelt which I contributed to The Eleventh Edition of the Ency clopmdia Britannica. Book The Life and Meaning of Theodore Roosevelt Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Life and Meaning of Theodore Roosevelt Classic Reprint written by Eugene Thwing and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life and Meaning of Theodore Roosevelt It would be next to impossible for any one man alone to write a complete life of Theodore Roosevelt. There will be many lives of Roosevelt, as there are many of Lincoln, and among them will be, in course of time, an "authorized" life, by one of Mr. Roosevelt's close friends, to whom he turned over much personal material shortly before his death. But even this "authorized" life cannot tell the whole remarkable story. It is hoped and expected that other personal friends will write lives of Roosevelt such as only they could write. Senator Lodge, for example, and William Loeb, would bring to the work a wealth of personal reminiscences and an intimacy of narrative and interpretation quite different from that available to other biographers. On the other hand, any life written by an intimate personal friend or co-worker will necessarily contain much of personal viewpoint and feeling. It will present the observations, the impressions, the understandings and estimates gained in close contact during circumstances which reveal something less than the whole man. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Memorial to Theodore Roosevelt He especially excelled as a boxer when at Harvard, and was the champion light-weight boxer in that college, and was always ready to put on the gloves with any other fellow student. After his graduation from Harvard, Mr. Roosevelt made a trip to Europe. This was in 1880. There, not content with doing the continent in the orthodox way, he roughed it, ascending the Jungfrau and Matter horn, tramped through the country districts of Germany and became tolerably familiar with peasant life. Book The Most Interesting American

Download or read book The Most Interesting American written by and published by Post Hill Press. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theodore Roosevelt largely is known today by some stereotypes and his many accomplishments—but the full and fascinating essence of the man is fading. In this book, TR charges back! Historian Rick Marschall has collected almost five hundred quotations, descriptions, impressions, and memories of the “Most Interesting American,” not from recent historians or critics, but from people who knew him, worked with him, interviewed him, and some who only met him once—all of whom recorded their impressions of Theodore “TR” Roosevelt. Derived from vintage newspapers and magazines; scrapbooks and diaries; and letters and memoirs, the multifaceted TR lives again in chapters devoted to his personality as an ebullient humor; as a family man; as a man of faith; as a conservationist; as an outdoorsman and advocate of the Strenuous Life; as a political figure; as an intellectual, patriot, activist, and…as an American. In more than a century since his death, the personal attributes that endeared him to his nation have become obscured. In this book of firsthand, eyewitness accounts…TR comes roaring back to us in all of his astonishing ways!

Book Theodore Roosevelt

Download or read book Theodore Roosevelt written by E. Cornelius Andrews and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theodore Roosevelt: By One Who Voted for Him Three Times Words fail us, for we cannot hope to picture fully the many sides of this national world hero. Yet we can mention a few of his deeds and qualities for the benefit of his myriads of mourning friends and the consolation of his family. Theodore Roosevelt, born rich, in New York City, and educated in Harvard, and on a Dakota ranch, was and is a mighty and fearless leader of men, one of our greatest Presidents, a near-martyr by assassination, in fact. I am glad I emphasized the value of the ballot (for many will not go a block to vote), when I went 750 miles and back from Ann Arbor, Mich., where I studied law, to Vermillion, S. D., 1500 miles in all, when I cast my first ballot after reaching voting age for the martyred McKinley and Roosevelt. I thought then, and still believe, that both Republican leaders were more fully pledged than the Democrats to the idea that big business is not necessarily corrupt, and when rightly run big business is highly helpful to the public or the masses. I believe the men controlling the corporations, on the average, have made good and fully justified the belief of Roosevelt and his supporters. I warmly admired Roosevelt's real courage in daring to attack corrupt big business, as shown in unfair railroad rebates, etc. He exalted the Presidency by using it as a pulpit to preach against predatory wealth, railroad rebates, etc. We sometimes thought he was bluffing because he did not change and execute laws fast enough to suit us, not realizing the immense difficulties he fought. I sometimes wondered if his study of the national transportation problem did not naturally lead to a study of world transportation and eventuate in his greatest everlasting monument, the Panama Canal, which was due to his energy then, and desirable direct action methods, otherwise it might have been delayed many years. By fighting predatory wealth Roosevelt was the best protector of honest wealth in America, and the greatest fighter against destructive Bolshevikism in the world. For sheer moral courage the revered President Roosevelt's greatest heroism was shown most conspicuously when he obeyed the Bible command, "Come out from among them and be ye separate." when he left the party and friends who had honored him so much in the past and led the Progressives when I voted for him last. He believed in the righteousness of this cause so much that he dared help start a new party which cast vastly the largest vote any new party ever won before in America. I believe Theodore Roosevelt's fame is the kind that will grow with time. Wise progress is real conservation. I voted for Roosevelt three times, McKinley once, and Taft once, and yet I admire President Wilson much for his mastery of English and ideas, and especially for his League of Nations and fourteen Peace Point ideas as understood at the present time, January 8th, 1919. They mean progress. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Theodore Roosevelt

Download or read book Theodore Roosevelt written by William Roscoe Thayer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theodore Roosevelt: An Intimate Biography Although I have purposely brought out what I believe to be the most significant parts of Roosevelt's character and public life, I have not wished to be un critical. I have suppressed nothing. Fortunately for his friends, the two libel suits which he went through in his later years, subjected him to a microsc0pic scrutiny, both'as to his personal and his political life. All the efforts of very able lawyers, and of clever and unscrupulous enemies to undermine him, failed; and henceforth his advocates may rest on the verdicts given by two separate courts.
