It focuses on commercial wood energy uses in the UNECE including energy generated for cooking, heating and electricity generation.

Book Biomass for Energy in the Developing Countries

Download or read book Biomass for Energy in the Developing Countries written by D. O. Hall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomass for Energy in the Developing Countries: Current Role, Potential, Problems, Prospects focuses on biomass energy and its importance to developing countries. This book outlines the reality that supply can no longer meet the demand of this form of energy. This fact is particularly observed in the rising price of oil, which is a prime source of energy for developing countries. Relative to this, a need to look for indigenous energy sources is urgent to sustain development in these countries. This book emphasizes that biomass energy utilization differs among developing countries, which shows the variance in energy needs. This text also notes that the pattern of biomass energy use in such countries is related to agriculture and also has cultural, economic, and social linkages. Biomass energy is also considered an important aspect in rural development and as a replacement for petroleum products. With the impending shortage of biomass energy, schemes are now being developed to sustain the use of this energy in household and industry settings, which is emphasized in the development of equipment considered energy efficient. People who are concerned with the development and implementation of programs aimed at conserving biomass energy and in the search of alternative energy can use this book as a reference.

Book Wood Energy in Developed Economies

Download or read book Wood Energy in Developed Economies written by Francisco X. Aguilar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a recent resurgence of interest in wood energy as part of a sustainable range of renewable energy options. This book addresses the current gap in the energy and public policy literature for a reference book that compiles the most-recent wood energy assessments, and evaluates current and potential future wood energy uses and the role for public policy to foster efficient use of the most-widely consumed renewable energy in the world. It brings together a group of expert authors covering topics from forest management, operations and engineering, to socio-economics and energy policy perspectives. It thus covers practical issues such as silviculture, harvesting, processing, comparative cost estimates, public policy tools and market effects. As such the book provides a comprehensive review of the complex dimensions of wood energy as well as practical guidance for professionals, researchers and advanced students. It will also provide invaluable guidance for economic development agencies, practitioners and policy-makers, when evaluating the impacts of wider wood energy adoption as part of a strategy for sustainable energy generation. The main focus is on industrialised production and developed economies, particularly the USA and Europe.

Book The role of wood residues in the transition to sustainable bioenergy

Download or read book The role of wood residues in the transition to sustainable bioenergy written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-01-23 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides an overview of the potential use of wood residues as feedstock for bioenergy production as part of the transition towards a sustainable and circular forest bioeconomy. While data and examples are abundant from developed countries, a specific focus will be put on the role and potential of wood residue-based energy in developing countries. The study is structured around the following four main objectives, each corresponding to a chapter:- define key terms and concepts related to wood residues and bioenergy value chains (Chapter 2);- characterize the status and trends in renewable energy, modern bioenergy and the forest-based bioeconomy and evaluate the theoretical potential of wood residues for energy (Chapter 3);- determine general success factors, common lessons learned and constraints on the utilization of wood residues for energy (Chapter 4); and- formulate recommendations (Chapter 5).The overall aim is to inform new policies and programmes through the identification of optimal conditions whereby the use of wood residues for energy can offer a competitive alternative to other fuels in developing countries and contribute towards reaching the UN SDGs.

Book The Role of Wood Energy in Asia

Download or read book The Role of Wood Energy in Asia written by Thierry Prof Lefevre and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Many developing countries in Asia still rely on wood energy. It is estimated that more than half of the total energy consumption in many Asian countries is accounted for by wood energy. However, there is no precise information on a region-wide level and existing information are scattered in national agencies. Thus, there is a need to organize and analyze available information to serve as a basis for energy policy. The present study is part of the regional Wood Energy Today for Tomorrow (WETT) studies undertaken by the Wood Energy Programme (WEP). The results of these studies will serve as inputs to other FAO activities and studies including Wood Energy Information System (WEIS), the Global Fibre Supply Study (GFSS), and the Asia-Pacific Forestry Outlook Study".
