Download or read book Implementing a Relational Evangelism Ministry at Shiloh Community Church in Fayetteville Arkansas written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this is to develop and implement a relational evangelism course for Shiloh Community Church. The church had enjoyed good progressive growth for the first nine years of its existence but the following six years has experienced a decline in worship and Sunday school attendance. It was determined that a passive attitude in evangelism was the problem. After researching different evangelism models, the decision was made to develop an evangelism approach that was missional and relational. The pilot course was developed and thirteen members from Shiloh Community Church were chosen to participate. The class consisted of church members from different adult Sunday school classes whose ages ranged from late twenties to late fifties. The course was a total of twelve weeks including eight weekly lessons, three additional weeks of relational evangelism, and the final week to assess the course.

Book excerpt: Evangelism is a word that strikes fear in the hearts of even the most faithful Christians. Though believers realize their responsibility to connect others to Christ, many feel intimidated by the task. A plethora of programs and processes have been developed to aid believers in evangelism; however, these can often feel impersonal, inauthentic, or awkward. In frustration, many believers have given up hope of ever feeling adequate to share their faith with others. What if evangelism was not meant to be a process? What if it was never intended to be boiled down to step-by-step programs or processes? What if introducing others to Jesus is actually as easy as sharing life with others and having a few intentional conversations? Through this book, readers will learn an approach to evangelism that leverages "relationality" while minimizing much of the anxiety that accompanies sharing one's faith. Rather than a new approach, this simple, straight-forward perspective is a return to the evangelism modeled by the first believers. There are no flowcharts, presentations, or acronyms. All that is required is a reliance on the Holy Spirit, God's Word, and a desire to cultivate and build intentional relationships for the sake of the gospel. The ultimate goal is to see every believer equipped, encouraged, and empowered to do his part to fulfill the Great Commission of Christ.

Book Making Friends for Christ

Download or read book Making Friends for Christ written by Wayne McDill and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making Friends for Christ: A Practical Approach to Relational Evangelism, Second Edition This is not a gimmick. It is not the next modern evangelism strategy for you or your church to use for a while and then discard when the next one comes along. It is not about pretending to be friends with people to fulfill a hidden conversion agenda. Making Friends for Christ is an exploration of loving others the way that Jesus loved us, intentionally, relationally, and sacrificially. The people all around us want to be loved. They need a friend who will listen to them and care for them. And that is just what Jesus wants us to do. As we live in love and truth, his light shines into people's lives so that they may know Love Himself. Making Friends for Christ is a guide for learning how to be a real friend. It offers practical, everyday ideas for touching the people God has already put into your life. You will learn how to be a good listener, overcome common barriers, and invest in relationships. You can turn your home into a place of ministry and effectively tell how Christ has changed your life. You can learn to pray in faith for your friends and family and join with other believers for support and encouragement. This second edition of Making Friends for Christ is revised and enlarged for the challenges of the Twenty-First Century evangelism. Wayne McDill teaches Communication and Bible Exposition in Wake Forest, North Carolina at Southeastern Seminary. He has also taught courses in Evangelism, Church Planting, and Pastoral Leadership. Book excerpt: Dann Spader is a disciple-maker who has spent his adult life exploring what it means to take someone from being a seeker to making disciples themselves. Over 750,000 people in 80 countries have been trained to make disciples through organizations he has led. Through studying the life of Christ and His disciple-making methods, Dann developed 4 Chair Discipling, a simple picture for others to follow. Jesus’ last words on earth had a few very specific instructions: Go, make disciples, baptize, and teach. But what does that mean for us today? Well, it’s not easy. But it is simple. Teacher and leader Dann Spader explains disciple-making as a process of moving people through four chairs, from someone seeking to know more about Christ to someone who makes disciples themselves. Chair 1: Come and See (John 1:39) Chair 2: Follow Me (John 1:43) Chair 3: Become a Fisher of Men (Matthew 4:19) Chair 4: Go and Bear Fruit (John 15:16) In the process of His four-year ministry, Jesus realized that different people are at different stages of growth and development, and He works to challenge each of them to the next level. In 4 Chair Discipling, you’ll get a clear and simple picture of how to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and do the same thing.

Book Ethics beyond Rules

Download or read book Ethics beyond Rules written by Keith D Stanglin and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to ethics that will help Christians rediscover a moral reasoning rooted in Scripture and navigate the ethical crises of our time. How should Christians live? How should we interact with one another? Why do we think the way we do about right and wrong? How should we approach today's complex moral questions? Keith Stanglin realigns our ethical thinking around the central question: What does real love require? applying it to our ethical reasoning on many of the social issues present in today's culture: abortion sexual ethics consumerism technology race and politics Moral evaluation must be based on more than our subjective feelings or the received wisdom or majority opinion of our community. But thinking objectively and reasonably about our ethical commitments is a process that's rarely taught in contemporary education or even in churches. Ethics Beyond Rules is a clear and accessible introduction for thoughtful Christians who want to lead moral lives—who want to define their moral code by firm biblical standards while acknowledging the complex nature of the issues at hand. Stanglin's love-based framework for moral decision-making engages Scripture and the historic Christian faith, giving Christians the tools to clear-mindedly consider the ethical problems of today and the foundation to confront new issues in the years to come.

Book A Handbook of Churches and Councils

Download or read book A Handbook of Churches and Councils written by World Council of Churches and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has often been said-and rightly so-that the World Council of Churches (WCC) is first and foremost a fellowship of churches. This book is a vivid illustration of that reality. The descriptions, lists, statistical data, and other information presented in these pages give a striking picture of the extent and diversity of this fellowship. It encompasses a Christian population of some 590 million people, in close to 150 countries in all regions of the world, comprised of over 520,000 local congregations served by some 493,000 pastors and priests, as well as countless elders, teachers, members of parish councils, and others. A Handbook of Churches and Councils is not simply a handbook of the member churches of the WCC. At all levels-global, regional and sub-regional, national, and local-member churches of the WCC interact with other churches which, for various reasons, are not formally part of the Council's membership. By combining in one volume all the conciliar and confessional bodies and their membership, this book demonstrates concretely the reach of the ecumenical movement and also shows how much broader it is than the WCC alone. It serves to remind us that ownership of the movement rests not only with the WCC but with all the partners, and ultimately with God.

Book Mental Health and the Church

Download or read book Mental Health and the Church written by Stephen Grcevich, MD and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church across North America has struggled to minister effectively with children, teens, and adults with common mental health conditions and their families. One reason for the lack of ministry is the absence of a widely accepted model for mental health outreach and inclusion. In Mental Health and the Church: A Ministry Handbook for Including Children and Adults with ADHD, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, and Other Common Mental Health Conditions, Dr. Stephen Grcevich presents a simple and flexible model for mental health inclusion ministry for implementation by churches of all sizes, denominations, and organizational styles. The model is based upon recognition of seven barriers to church attendance and assimilation resulting from mental illness: stigma, anxiety, self-control, differences in social communication and sensory processing, social isolation and past experiences of church. Seven broad inclusion strategies are presented for helping persons of all ages with common mental health conditions and their families to fully participate in all of the ministries offered by the local church. The book is also designed to be a useful resource for parents, grandparents and spouses interested in promoting the spiritual growth of loved ones with mental illness.
