Book Continuous Improvement Practice in Local Government

Download or read book Continuous Improvement Practice in Local Government written by Matthew Pepper and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Local government plays a critical role in the provision of governance, infrastructure, and services for local communities. Over the past 30 years this sector has undergone significant reforms because of various superordinate governments policy changes. Continuous improvement and quality programs have been a common tactical response undertaken by various local government organisations to remain sustainable and to continue to deliver value to their local communities. These tactical responses have had varying levels of success. This book seeks to go beyond a tactical focus and uncover the kinds of continuous improvement practices that are enacted in various local government contexts. A focus on practices enables practitioners and researchers alike to gain insights that to go beyond approaches which privilege the application of CI tools over the contextualisation of CI programs. Contextualisation affords the insightful deployment of programs that are specific to the needs and dynamics of local communities and operations. The cases presented share insights on aspects of CI including: embedding performance measurement; harnessing learning; contextualising CI activities to support the ongoing sustainability of these practices. Researchers and practitioners alike can draw benefit from the grounded industry base experiences and insights shared in the book.

Book Organizational Data Mining

Download or read book Organizational Data Mining written by Hamid R. Nemati and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mountains of business data are piling up in organizations every day. These organizations collect data from multiple sources, both internal and external. These sources include legacy systems, customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning applications, online and e-commerce systems, government organizations and business suppliers and partners. A recent study from the University of California at Berkeley found the amount of data organizations collect and store in enterprise databases doubles every year, and slightly more than half of this data will consist of "reference information," which is the kind of information strategic business applications and decision support systems demand (Kestelyn, 2002). Terabyte-sized (1,000 megabytes) databases are commonplace in organizations today, and this enormous growth will make petabyte-sized databases (1,000 terabytes) a reality within the next few years (Whiting, 2002). By 2004 the Gartner Group estimates worldwide data volumes will be 30 times those of 1999, which translates into more data having been produced in the last 30 years than during the previous 5,000 (Wurman, 1989).

Book Practical Strategies to Assess Value in Health Care

Download or read book Practical Strategies to Assess Value in Health Care written by Craig A. Solid and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These days, the idea of “value” is at the center of many activities and decisions in health care in the United States. While there exist books that detail the technical steps for how to carry out a specific type of value assessment, such as cost-effectiveness or return on investment, there are few that attempt to teach healthcare professionals how to think about value. This book provides a deeper understanding of value as a concept as well as an endeavor (as in, to determine or uncover the value of care) within the healthcare industry by illustrating the different components of value that should guide decision-making processes for policy, infrastructure, and quality improvement. Through an exploration of theories of economics and implementation science, as well as practical suggestions for real-world applications, this text provides a foundation for the long and complicated “value” journey the US has bet its entire healthcare system on. In the US, policy to promote what is referred to as “value-based care” is here to stay. As we move forward within this construct, we need to move beyond the over-simplified definition of value as “quality per dollar spent” to a more functional framework for how to think about value that can adapt to different circumstances and points of view. Only then will it be possible to compare value across settings, conditions, and activities. The book consists of 9 chapters organized in four sections: Part I: Understanding the Challenges of Assessing the Value of Health Care Part II: A Primer on Fundamental Concepts and Current Techniques Used to Measure Value in Health Care Part III: A Discussion of the Real-world Motivations and Requirements that Should be Contemplated when Exploring Value Part IV: How to Design and Perform a Value Assessment Practical Strategies to Assess Value in Health Care is an essential resource for healthcare professionals at all levels and points of care who are interested in understanding how best to assess and interpret value for a particular situation including providers, administrators, payers, insurers, health plans, and policy-makers.
