Abstract: With the ever increasing pregnancy rate of students, people have begun to doubt the effectiveness of the sexuality education in Hong Kong. Some argued that a more comprehensive approach should be adopted while others argue that the more traditional approach is better. However, the voices of students are almost neglected. The aim of this study is to fill this gap and illuminates students' views on sexuality education in schools and appropriateness of different approaches. In general, students welcome sexuality education as they agree that there is a need for such education; however, there is a big gap between what students want to learn and what the schools are actually teaching... So, it is a kind of long-term education for a person. For limited length, this paper only studies adolescents' (mainly students in primary and middle schools) sex education in China and the US (the United States). Due to the restriction of traditional thoughts, sex education on adolescents has been developing so slowly that it turns into the weak point of basic education and results in the growth of adolescents' sexual ignorance, sexual faults and sexual crimes. America is one of the earliest countries that launch sex education in the world and it has plenty of academic as well as practical experience we can study and learn from.

Some of the earliest surviving literature of China is devoted to discussions of sexual topics, and the sexual implications of the Ym and Yang theories common in ancient China continue to influence Tantric and esoteric sexual practices today far dis tant from their Chinese origins. In recent years, a number of books have been written exploring the history of sexual practices and ideas in China, but most have ended the discussion with ancient China and have not continued up to the present time. Fang Fu Ruan first surveys the ancient assumptions and beliefs, then carries the story to present-day China with brief descriptions of homosexuality, lesbianism, transvestism, transsexualism, and prostitution, and ends with a chapter on changing attitudes toward sex in China today. Dr. Ruan is well qualified to give such an overview. Until he left China in the 1980s, he was a leader in attempting to change the repressive attitudes of the government toward human sexuality. He wrote a best selling book on sex in China, and had written to and corresponded with a number of people in China who considered him as confidant and ad visor about their sex problems. A physician and medical historian, Dr. Ruan's doctoral dissertation was a study of the history of sex in China.

Abstract: Abstract The traditional Chinese moral standard and values on sex are being challenged by the modernization in Hong Kong. More and more concern has been given to the implicit influences of the community, especially mass media to the young people on the values of sex. School as perceived as a major source for teenagers to acquire appropriate and accurate sexual knowledge. The purpose of this study is to view the implementation of sex education in a Catholic Boys' school in Hong Kong to explore whether the existing curriculum and programme are appropriate to cater for students' needs. This study adopted a case study approach, employing a combination of qualitative and quantitative approach in its method of inquiry. Responses from 161 students from S.3, S.5 and S.7 and 31 teachers revealed the existing sex education programme in school. The study reveals that school is affirmed to be an appropriate venue in delivering sex education. However, the curriculum designed in a Catholic school is considered not to be broad enough to cater for the students' needs as teachers censored some of the controversial topics which they perceived are not appropriate and would violate the norms in the Catholic Church. In fact, Catholic Church suggested that values dimensions have to be focused instead of censoring the topics. It is hoped that this dissertation will contribute a little to the educators in the understanding of the young people needs of sexual knowledge so that more appropriate and comprehensive programme can be devised in school for the promotion of students for better sex health and development.
