Book Cross National Information and Communication Technology Policies and Practices in Education

Download or read book Cross National Information and Communication Technology Policies and Practices in Education written by Tjeerd Plomp and published by IAP. This book was released on 2009-04-01 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compendium of papers documents educational ICT policies and practices in 37 countries, making it a valuable resource for understanding and comparing ICT-related national policy developments in education. We believe that this work offers a unique in-depth examination of the trends within major education systems and how they have adapted to and taken advantage of the challenges and opportunities posed by the new information and communication technologies. A special feature of this edition is that it allows for interesting comparative analyses of sub-groups of countries, as many Asian, European Union, and former eastern-European countries, as well as the United States and Canada (among others), are included in the book. But it allows also for other than regional comparisons given that a number of newly industrialized countries (such as Brazil, Chile, Malaysia, and South Africa) are represented in this book, together with many OECD countries. This book is the result of the effort and hard work of the contributing authors, many of whom are the NRCs for IEA SITES in their respective countries. Special thanks must go to the Norwegian Royal Ministry of Education and Research and the Netherlands Kennisnet ICT OP School Foundation, both of which provided generous support for the preparation and dissemination of the book, to the Center for Information Technology in Education (CITE) of the University of Hong Kong, which assisted in the technical preparation of the manuscript, and to the IEA Secretariat, which facilitated the copyediting of the chapters. We want to acknowledge especially the professional contribution of Paula Wagemaker, who has copyedited the entire volume. This copyediting work is especially critical and challenging, as many of the chapters were written by authors for whom English is a foreign language. We also want to express our appreciation to David Robitaille, chair of the IEA Publications and Editorial Committee, and his committee for the critical and constructive review of the manuscript.

Book The Impact of ICT Integration on Students Academic Performance in Business Subjects A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Lagos Nigeria

Download or read book The Impact of ICT Integration on Students Academic Performance in Business Subjects A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Lagos Nigeria written by Olufemi Adebayo and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, , language: English, abstract: The purpose of this study is to ascertain the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) integration on students’ academic performance in Nigerian Secondary Schools. As a guide to the study, answers will be sought to the following questions: What is the level of availability and usage of ICT facilities in secondary schools in Lagos State? What is attitude of respondents towards ICT application effect on academic performance? What is the relationship between the usage of ICT and academic performance? What are the constraints to the effective usage of ICT? Change is expected in the pattern of teaching and learning process from the conventional method to a more dynamic and flexible one, presumed learner-centered. The learner-centred approach empowers students; they are in control of their activities, materials and pace of learning, which places them in the centre of the learning process and enhances independent learning. However, despite the glaring relevance of ICT in education, coupled with the huge capital investment of both Federal and State governments through ICT driven project known as “schoolNET” and donations from Non-Governmental Organizations to Secondary schools in Nigeria, some teachers are still reluctant, ineffective and unproductive in using ICT facilities to improve students’ academic performance, especially in Business subjects. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have become inseparable entities in all aspects of human life. The use of ICT has fundamentally changed the practices and procedures of nearly all forms of endeavour within business, governance and civil service. In education, ICT has begun to have a presence but the impact has not been as extensive as in other fields of endeavour. The moving of the world to digital media and information has made the role of ICT in education to become more important and this importance will continue to grow and develop in the 21st century. Information and communication technology (ICT) is an indispensable part of the contemporary world. In fact, culture and society have to be adjusted to meet the challenges of the knowledge age. Undoubtedly ICT has impacted on the quality and quantity of teaching, learning and research in tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria.
