Download or read book Usability Testing written by Morten Hertzum and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is all too common for products, such as consumer appliances, information systems, mobile apps, and websites, to cause trouble and frustration. For example, products are often difficult or dull to use, make tasks less flexible or more tedious, shift attention away from important or gratifying activities, and simply fail to deliver expected benefits or experiences. By identifying such trouble and frustration in the lab prior to widespread use, usability tests have proven a valuable method for informing redesign efforts. A usability test consists of having test users exercise a product and think aloud about their experience using it, while an evaluator observes the users and listens in on their thoughts. On this basis the evaluator identifies usability problems and assesses the user experience. This book describes how to conduct usability tests. After providing context about concepts and testing, the main chapters of the book cover the steps involved in preparing for a usability test, executing the test sessions, and analyzing the test data. Throughout the chapters, concrete guidance is balanced against more complex issues with an impact on the robustness, validity, completeness, impact, and cost of a usability test. The book concludes with an outlook to variations of usability testing and alternatives to it.

Book Iterative Identification and Restoration of Images

Download or read book Iterative Identification and Restoration of Images written by Reginald L. Lagendijk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most intriguing questions in image processing is the problem of recovering the desired or perfect image from a degraded version. In many instances one has the feeling that the degradations in the image are such that relevant information is close to being recognizable, if only the image could be sharpened just a little. This monograph discusses the two essential steps by which this can be achieved, namely the topics of image identification and restoration. More specifically the goal of image identifi cation is to estimate the properties of the imperfect imaging system (blur) from the observed degraded image, together with some (statistical) char acteristics of the noise and the original (uncorrupted) image. On the basis of these properties the image restoration process computes an estimate of the original image. Although there are many textbooks addressing the image identification and restoration problem in a general image processing setting, there are hardly any texts which give an indepth treatment of the state-of-the-art in this field. This monograph discusses iterative procedures for identifying and restoring images which have been degraded by a linear spatially invari ant blur and additive white observation noise. As opposed to non-iterative methods, iterative schemes are able to solve the image restoration problem when formulated as a constrained and spatially variant optimization prob In this way restoration results can be obtained which outperform the lem. results of conventional restoration filters.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Program Design and Implementation Evaluation

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Program Design and Implementation Evaluation written by Anu Rangarajan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This handbook brings together evaluation approaches relevant across the program life cycle, starting from program design, to implementation, and ultimately to the scaling up of successful interventions. It fills a gap in available publications, which are predominantly focused on impact evaluations and inadequately grounded in methods that can address why programs succeed or fail as well as their potential to contribute to broader and more systemic change. This chapter starts by setting the context and describes key questions relevant to each stage of the program lifecycle. The second section highlights four cross-cutting consideration that social programs today must confront including: (1) ensuring culturally responsive and equitable evaluations, (2) the decolonization of evaluation practices, (3) adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic and other global health crises, and (4) understanding the impact of climate change on social programs. The last section describes how this handbook can be used and highlights relevant evaluation topics and case studies covered in each section of the handbook"--

Book Detection Algorithms for Wireless Communications

Download or read book Detection Algorithms for Wireless Communications written by Gianluigi Ferrari and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-12-13 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless channels are becoming more and more important, with the future development of wireless ad-hoc networks and the integration of mobile and satellite communications. To this end, algorithmic detection aspects (involved in the physical layer) will become fundamental in the design of a communication system. This book proposes a unified approach to detection for stochastic channels, with particular attention to wireless channels. The core idea is to show that the three main criteria of sequence detection, symbol detection and graph-based detection, can all be described within a general framework. This implies that a detection algorithm based on one criterion can be extended to the other criteria in a systematic manner. Presents a detailed analysis of statistical signal detection for digital signals transmitted over wireless communications Provides a unifying framework for different signal detection algorithms, such as sequence detection, symbol detection and graph-based detection, important for the design of modern digital receivers operating over mobile channels Features the hot topic of graph-based detection Detection Algorithms for Wireless Communications represents a novel contribution with respect to the current literature, with a unique focus on detection algorithms, as such it will prove invaluable to researchers working in academia and industry and in the field of wireless communications, as well as postgraduate students attending advanced courses on mobile communications.

Book Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging

Download or read book Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging written by Habib Zaidi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-11 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a review of image analysis techniques as they are applied in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. Driven in part by the remarkable sophistication of nuclear medicine instrumentation and - crease in computing power and its ready and inexpensive availability, this is a relatively new yet rapidly expanding field. Likewise, although the use of nuclear imaging for diagnosis and therapy has origins dating back almost to the pioneering work of Dr G. de Hevesy, quantitative imaging has only recently emerged as a promising approach for diagnosis and therapy of many diseases. An effort has, therefore, been made to place the reviews provided in this book in a broader context. The effort to do this is reflected by the inclusion of introductory chapters that address basic principles of nuclear medicine instrumentation and dual-modality imaging, followed by overview of issues that are closely related to quantitative nuclear imaging and its potential role in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. A brief overview of each chapter is provided below. Chapter 1 presents a general overview of nuclear medicine imaging physics and instrumentation including planar scintigraphy, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET). Nowadays, patients’ diagnosis and therapy is rarely done without the use of imaging technology. As such, imaging considerations are incorporated in almost every chapter of the book. The development of dual-modality - aging systems is an emerging research field, which is addressed in chapter 2.
