Book Hydroxyapatite Coatings for Biomedical Applications

Download or read book Hydroxyapatite Coatings for Biomedical Applications written by Sam Zhang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-05-14 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydroxyapatite coatings are of great importance in the biological and biomedical coatings fields, especially in the current era of nanotechnology and bioapplications. With a bonelike structure that promotes osseointegration, hydroxyapatite coating can be applied to otherwise bioinactive implants to make their surface bioactive, thus achieving faster healing and recovery. In addition to applications in orthopedic and dental implants, this coating can also be used in drug delivery. Hydroxyapatite Coatings for Biomedical Applications explores developments in the processing and property characterization and applications of hydroxyapatite to provide timely information for active researchers and newcomers alike. In eight carefully reviewed chapters, hydroxyapatite experts from the United States, Japan, Singapore, and China present the latest on topics ranging from deposition processes to biomedical applications in implants and drug delivery. This book discusses: Magnetron sputtering and electrochemical deposition The modification of hydroxyapatite properties by sol–gel deposition to incorporate other elements found in natural bones, such as zinc, magnesium, and fluorine The use of pure hydroxyapatite in drug delivery applications The growth or self-assembly of hydroxyapatite on shape memory alloy Hydroxyapatite composite coatings—with carbon nanotubes, titanium dioxide (TiO2), and others—on the titanium alloy Offering valuable insights and a wealth of data, including numerous tables and figures, this is a rich source of information for research on hydroxyapatite coatings. Each chapter also covers material that provides an accessible stepping stone for those who are new to the field.

Book Hydroxyapatite HAp for Biomedical Applications

Download or read book Hydroxyapatite HAp for Biomedical Applications written by Michael Mucalo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-03-06 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydroxyapatite in the form of hydroxycarbonate apatite is the principal mineral component of bone tissue in mammals. In Bioceramics, it is classed as a bioactive material, which means bone tissue grows directly on it when placed in apposition without intervening fibrous tissue. Hydroxyapatite is hence commonly used as bone grafts, fillers and as coatings for metal implants. This important book provides an overview of the most recent research and developments involving hydroxyapatite as a key material in medicine and its application. - Reviews the important properties of hydroxyapatite as a biomaterial - Considers a range of specific forms of the material and their advantages - Reviews a range of specific medical applications for this important material

Book Two types of Hydroxyapatite Coating Implant A Retrospective Clinical Study

Download or read book Two types of Hydroxyapatite Coating Implant A Retrospective Clinical Study written by Kim Sang Yun and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BackgroundClinical research has shown that hydroxyapatite coated implants can improve the outcome of this procedure by enhancing the osseointegration process, decreasing healing time, and increasing the 5-year success rates post procedure.Aim/Hypothesis We conducted a retrospective descriptive study to evaluate the clinical outcomes of two hydroxyapatite (HA) coated implants, OT (Osstem TS III-HA, Osstem implant Co., Busan, Korea) and ZM (Zimmer TSV-HA, Zimmer dental, Carlsbad, USA.Materials and Methods We evaluated 303 implants that were surgically placed by one oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Section of Dentistry from 2010 to 2012, comparing four outcome standards: success rates, survival rates, annual marginal bone loss, and implant stability quotients. The samples were classified into immediate, early, conventional, and delayed groups according to the loading time. They were also classified into 1 and 2-stage groups according to the surgical procedures. Results Overall, there were no significant differences between OT and ZM when comparing success rates, survival rates, and annual marginal bone loss; however, there was a difference in late stability (ISQ). Specifically, ISQ, which occurs after healing, was slightly higher in the in the OT implants (77.83u00b18.23 vs. 76.09u00b16.90, P.05). When analyzing the healing periods between the two implant types, only immediate loading showed a statistically significant difference (P
