Several surgical techniques for horizontal ridge augmentation procedures were proposed and are successful, but vertical alveolar bone defects are especially difficult to reconstruct. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and predictability of mandibular distraction osteogenesis for implant site development. A 30-year-old female patient presented to us with the chief concern being replacement of the missing lower teeth, due to primary anodontia. Osteodistraction was carried out at a rate of 0,8 mm per day, with twice a day rhythm, after a 1-week latency period. The consolidation period was 4 months. In the case presented, the bone was vertically distracted for approximately 8,5 mm. Also satisfactory soft tissue formation was obtained and maintained. The method of alveolar distraction osteogenesis (ADO) is a reliable, minimally invasive, with several advantages.
