Book Leadership Styles and Employees Job Performance

Download or read book Leadership Styles and Employees Job Performance written by Aziz Javed and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership and followers' performance has always attracted organizational scholars' attention. Leadership is considered as one of the important factor, responsible for organizational and team's performance. Earlier studies mostly conducted in US and European countries and have mentioned a positive association between leadership and employees' job performance. Few authors have reported negative linkage between transactional leadership style and employees' performance. Most of these studies were conducted in public organizations. Here, we conducted this study in Pakistani work context to check the leadership effects on subordinates' task performance and organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). We also checked the possible mechanism involved in this leader-follower relationship. Some authors have checked organizational politics and organizational justice as possible underpinning mechanism, while we tested employees' self- and collective efficacy as one of the possible mechanism. Our direct hypothesized relationships were between two leadership styles (transactional and transformational) and employees' task performance, OCBs, self- and collective efficacy. Our results were partially similar to previous studies while partially different for direct relationships. Both transactional and transformational were found positively related to employees' task performance, OCBs, self- and collective efficacy. Transactional leadership was a stronger predictor of employees' task performance while transformational leadership proved a stronger predictor of employees' OCBs. Both employees' self- and collective efficacy proved to be mediators between both leadership styles (transactional and transformational) and employees' task performance and organizational citizenship behaviors. Self-efficacy proved a stronger mediator between transactional leadership and employees' task performance while collective efficacy was stronger mediator between transformational leadership and employees' OCBs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated the effect of leadership styles on employees' stress and wellbeing with a specific focus on commercial banks in Ghana. The researcher used a quantitative research approach and employed a descriptive and cross-sectional research design to address the research objectives and questions respectively. Using a survey design with a sample size of three hundred (300) conveniently chosen for the study, the researcher collected the data from permanent employees of five (5) commercial banks within the Accra and Tema metropolises of Ghana. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 21) software was used to analyse the data where descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression were specified and evaluated. The findings revealed that both transformational and transactional leadership styles are actually practiced amongst commercial banks in Ghana with employees experiencing some levels of stress and wellbeing also. While a negative relationship was established between transformational leadership and employee stress, a positive relationship was found between transformational leadership and employee wellbeing. Meanwhile, transactional leadership was found to have a positive relationship with both employee stress and wellbeing. The study highlights and gives a compelling justification for investment into transformational and transactional leadership to minimize employee stress and enhance employee wellbeing which will in turn impact positively on employee performance and other organizational outcome.

Book Cambridge Handbook of Culture Organizations and Work

Download or read book Cambridge Handbook of Culture Organizations and Work written by Rabi S. Bhagat and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-05-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now widely recognized that countries around the world are becoming increasingly interconnected, and that both public and private organizations are of necessity becoming increasingly global. As political, legal, and economic barriers recede in this environment, cultural barriers emerge as a principal challenge to organizational survival and success. It is not yet clear whether these global realities will cause cultures to converge, harmonize, and seek common ground or to retrench, resist, and accentuate their differences. In either case, it is of paramount importance for both managers and organizational scholars to understand the cultural crosscurrents underlying these changes. With contributions from an international team of scholars, this book reviews, analyzes, and integrates available theory and research to give the best information possible concerning the role of culture and cultural differences in organizational dynamics.
