Book The Impact of Accelerated Reader AR Program on Students MCT Reading Scores

Download or read book The Impact of Accelerated Reader AR Program on Students MCT Reading Scores written by Kenyartic LeWon Brown and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was needed to determine if the Accelerated Reader (AR) program made a positive impact in schools, which were attempting to increase student achievement in reading. The purpose of this study was to determine if students who received reading instruction supplemented with the AR Program achieved higher reading scores as measured by the Mississippi Curriculum Test (MCT) than students who were instructed using only traditional basal reader textbooks. 6 school districts were selected to participate in this study. There were 1,111 3rd - 5th grade students in the 6 districts between the years 2004 and 2007. Of those 1,111 students, 248 students met the criteria to be included in this study. Therefore, 248 students' reading scores were analyzed for this study. The findings of the study revealed that AR had a positive impact on students' MCT reading scores. There were no significant differences, however, between the reading scores in the three years 2004, 2005, and 2006 of AR students (male or female) and the reading scores of the Non-AR (NAR) students (male or female). There were no significant differences between the reading scores in the three years 2005, 2006, and 2007 of the AR students and the reading scores of the NAR students (male or female). This study was needed to determine if the AR program was beneficial to schools, which were attempting to increase student achievement in reading. The findings of this study may be used to help administrators and schools evaluate the usefulness and money spent on AR. While no significant differences were shown, the results did show that the AR students' scores were higher than the NAR students on the MCT reading.

Book The Effects of Accelerated Reader on Students Perceptions and Attitudes Towards Reading

Download or read book The Effects of Accelerated Reader on Students Perceptions and Attitudes Towards Reading written by Valerie Jean Via Sanchez and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of creating lifelong readers has been always been a value to all teachers because it is critical factor that contributes to a student’s academic success. Accelerated Reader has been implemented among schools across the nation to engage students into reading and used as a tool to measure student learning in reading achievement. Research on Accelerated Reader reveals that the reading program has contradictory findings of having a positive and negative effect on students. A qualitative research design was used to investigate whether and how Accelerated Reader effects students’ perceptions as reader and attitudes towards reading. A total of 25 second graders provided qualitative data with responses to a survey and interview. Classroom observations were also made over the six-week period of the study. Analyses of student behaviors, responses, and comments led to identification of important themes related to the students’ experiences with Accelerated Reader. The results showed that Accelerated Reader did affect students both positively and negatively.

Download or read book The Impact of Instructional Reading Technology Programs on Student Reading Achievement written by Daniel Todtfeld and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was designed to analyze the results of iReady, a computerized reading instruction program currently implemented at the elementary level in a Midwestern suburban school district. The purpose of this study was to determine if iReady improves student achievement as measured by the Communication Arts Missouri Assessment Program (MAP). The MAP test is a state assessment administered once a year in the spring in the state of Missouri. Three grade levels were used as sets of data in this study. Each grade level had two control groups and one test group. The test group received iReady intervention for one school year. An Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the three groups at each grade level. The researchers have recommended that this study be continued to examine the possible impact of iReady over a longer period of time. One grade level that implemented iReady showed significant gains in student achievement. This grade level indicates a possibility that iReady can make a difference.

Book The Accelerated Reader Program and Students Attitude Towards Reading

Download or read book The Accelerated Reader Program and Students Attitude Towards Reading written by Deborah Ann Focarile and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the relationship between the use of the Accelerated Reader Program, a computerized reading management program marketed by Advantage Learning Systems, Inc., and student's attitudes towards reading while specifically focusing on the difference in attitudes toward reading between low achieving and high achieving students. In addition, this study describes the relationship between reading achievement and the use of the Accelerated Reader Program. This study is quasi-experimental in nature since it does not use a random sample or random assignment to groups. In order to assess student attitudes toward reading, the Heathington Attitude Scale (intermediate version) was employed. The Heathington Attitude Scale is a Likert scale, or summated rating and gives feedback about school-related reading activities such as free reading and organized reading, reading at the library, reading at home, other recreational reading, and general reading. The Gates-MacGinitie Reading Tests was used to assess reading achievement. These test, published by Riverside Publishing Company, are standardized achievement of reading from the end of Kindergarten through Grade 12. Each level test consists of two tests: a vocabulary test and a comprehension test. The reading passages include a balance of different genres of writing. Results of the study suggest that there is no significant relationship between the use of the Accelerated Reader Program and student interest toward reading. Likewise, the study showed that the Accelerated Reader program did not have a significant impact on the reading interest of low achieving students when compared to high achieving students. Similarly, the data indicated that there was not a significant relationship between the use of the Accelerated Reader Program and student reading achievement. Finally, recommendations have been presented for further research of the following:the study should be conducted using a larger sample of participants and a comparison of the increase or decrease in student interest in reading during the school year between the students using the Accelerated Reader Program and those who do not.
