Download or read book Impact of Leadership Effectiveness and Organizational Climate on Academic Achievement in Memphis City Schools Alternative High Schools written by Billy JoeCarter Walker and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this study was to conduct an investigation to determine the relationships between leadership effectiveness, organizational climate, and academic achievement in Memphis City Schools' alternative high schools. In this quantitative study, the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) was used to gather leadership effectiveness perceptions, and the Gallup Q12 was used to gather organizational climate surveys from the four regional alternative high schools in Memphis City Schools. The survey instruments were distributed to over 120 principals, teachers, and educational support staff with 103 (85.83%) responding. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), two-way analysis of variance (Two-Way ANOVA), and a Pearson's correlation were used to examine the relationships between the independent variables of leadership effectiveness and organizational climate and the dependent variable of academic achievement. The study yielded significant findings. First, leadership effectiveness had a potentially significant impact on academic achievement. An ANOVA and the Two Way ANOVA showed leadership effectiveness has a potentially significant relationship with academic achievement as measured by the English II and Algebra I End-of-Course examinations. Organizational climate did not have a significant impact on academic achievement. Leadership effectiveness and organizational climate were found to have a highly significant relationship. Additionally, leadership effectiveness and organizational climate were highly correlated to each other. When alternative high schools' leadership effectiveness perceptions increased, so did their positive organizational climate scores. Therefore, leadership effectiveness and organizational climate have a significant relationship for fostering positive work environments when combined with respected leaders in Memphis City Schools' alternative high schools. Leadership effectiveness and organizational climate when combined were not significant variables when compared to academic achievement. Prior research suggested both variables were significant when implemented over an extended period of time. Survey data was taken over a two-week window, and test scores were used from one cycle of the English II and Algebra I End-of-Course examinations. When combined, both variables did not have a significant impact on academic achievement as measured by the English II and Algebra I End-of-Course examinations. These findings will provide practitioners and legislators with a greater understanding of alternative schools in Memphis and should direct policy decisions and legislation to enhance academic achievement. Further research is needed to examine if leadership effectiveness and organizational climate impact academic achievement over an extended period of time or through other academic measures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the effect of leadership on organizational outcomes and summarizes the current research findings in the field. It addresses the need for inclusive and interpretive studies in the field in order to interpret leadership literature and suggest new pathways for further studies. Appropriately, a meta-analysis approach is used by the contributors to show the big picture to the researchers by analyzing and combining the findings from different independent studies. In particular, the editors compile various studies examining the relationship between the leadership and thirteen organizational outcomes separately. The philosophy behind this book is to direct future research and practices rather than addressing the limits of current studies.

Download or read book School Leadership Climate and Student Academic Achievement written by Abdulraheem Ali Hasan Alhosani and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of leadership and organizational climate on the student academic achievement. The study also investigated the moderating influence of parental involvement on to the influence of school leadership and climate on the student academic achievement. This research was conducted in the public schools in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The study was designed to investigate research questions, as; 1). Do school leadership and climate make a change on the student academic achievement? 2). How does parental involvement contribute to interplay of school leadership and climate on student academic achievement? Based on the extant literature reviewed in this study, altogether thirteen hypotheses were framed including three mediation and three modern moderation hypotheses. The usable dataset in this study consisted of 304 teachers who were teaching in Grade 10, 11, and 12, at the time of the study in public schools of the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, who filled in the survey questionnaire for leadership, organizational climate, parental involvement, and student academic achievement. The demographic details of the sample in this study consisted of 137 male respondents (45.10%) and 167 female respondents (54.90%). Furthermore, the researcher used statistical software - the SPSS (Statistical package of Social Sciences) version 24 and the AMOS (Analysis of a Moment Structures) version 24 - to empirically test the hypotheses of this study. The results obtained for the direct impact suggest that school organizational climate, transactional, and transformational leadership positively and significantly influences the student academic achievements as both are positive and significant. However, the influence of the parental involvement on student academic achievement was not found to be significant. On the other hand, transformational leadership and school climate were found to positively and significantly influence the involvement the students' parent, whereas the influence of the transactional leadership on the parental involvement of the students were found to be non-significant. Furthermore, the results of the study indicate that parental involvement does not significantly mediate influence of leadership and school climate of the student academic achievement. As for the moderation analysis, the results of the study indicate that parental involvement positively and significantly moderate on to the influence of school climate and transformational leadership than transactional leadership on the student academic achievement. Previous studies in this domain are still in the developmental phase since not all studies were found to hae [sic] a moderating influence of parental involvement on transformational leadership and school organizational climate on the academic achievements of students. Therefore, the findings of this study hint at a significant scope for future researches in this domain. Overall, the study does point out that transactional leadership, transformational leadership and school climate than parental involvement directly influences student academic achievements. However, the parental involvement was found to moderate rather than mediate on the influence of transformational leadership and school organizational climate on students' academic achievement. The results of the study were discussed under the light of the past researches in the field. This study advances theory and practice on student academic achievement. The findings of this study have key policy implications and they have been discussed in details. This study discusses limitations and future direction for research in the context of student academic achievement in the public schools in Emirates of Abu Dhabi in particular, and the Gulf Coordination Council (GCC) in general.

Book The EPIC Leadership Development Program Evaluation Report Research Brief

Download or read book The EPIC Leadership Development Program Evaluation Report Research Brief written by New Leaders for New Schools and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Leaders for New Schools created the Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC) initiative in 2006 to learn from educators driving achievement gains in high-need urban schools. EPIC identifies school leaders and teachers whose students are making significant achievement gains and financially rewards these educators in exchange for sharing and documenting the practices that have contributed to the gains. Since 2006, New Leaders has awarded over $15.5 million to EPIC partner districts and charter schools and led them in a rigorous examination of their practices, culminating in the publication of video cases and practice profiles on the online EPIC Knowledge System. In 2009, New Leaders introduced the EPIC Leadership Development Model as a way to make these practices more widely available. Leveraging the rich resources of the Knowledge System, which now contains more than 200 case studies of effective practices from award-winning schools, the model offers school leaders within and beyond the EPIC consortium a job-embedded professional learning experience through which they use the examples of others to examine their own beliefs and practices and lead their faculty and staff in meaningful change. During the 2010-11 school year, New Leaders contracted with Rockman et al, an independent research firm, to evaluate pilots of the EPIC Leadership Development Model in one charter management organization and two urban school districts: Friendship Public Charter Schools in Washington, DC (Friendship), Memphis City Schools (MCS), and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). Each pilot program featured the model's core components--in-person sessions led by highly skilled facilitators who guide participants through a curriculum built on Knowledge System content; action-planning and applied learning assignments that help participants put EPIC tools and strategies to work in their own schools; videotaping of participants' practice; and consulting calls that support learning between sessions. The pilots allowed EPIC to design and test a set of technology-enriched components, including personal practice videos and online forums and consultancies, which gave participants further opportunities to examine, share, and strengthen their leadership practices. The EPIC Model tailors session content to local needs, defined through an initial needs assessment, ongoing dialogue, and alignment with each partner's human capital management strategies. The Friendship pilot targeted principals and their work with leadership teams and focused on norming definitions of effective practice and strengthening observation and evaluation systems. In MCS, the focus was on building assistant principals' strategies and practices for leading data teams. In DCPS, EPIC worked with assistant principals on building skills to lead a team through a midyear change initiative. Both the MCS and DCPS programs were designed for assistant principals identified by the districts as having potential for principalship. This report summarizes the findings from the evaluation, which examined the EPIC Model's effectiveness and evolution over three iterations based on emerging local needs, and its impact on leadership practice. Evaluators collaborated with EPIC to design uniform instruments for use across sites, including session feedback forms, self-assessment surveys, and postsession and site-visit interview protocols. As part of the formative study, evaluators gathered feedback from participants on the effectiveness of EPIC's core components and factors that affected implementation. As ongoing evaluation continues to inform the evolution of the EPIC Leadership Development Model, research shows that the combination of its use of innovative technology and rich base of leadership knowledge leads to observable and meaningful improvements in participants' leadership practices. Book Relationships Among Servant Leadership Organizational Citizenship Behavior and School Climate in Alabama High Schools

Download or read book Relationships Among Servant Leadership Organizational Citizenship Behavior and School Climate in Alabama High Schools written by David Lee Dixon and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the relationship between servant leadership of the principal with Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) and school climate. Servant leadership, a leadership behavior that emphasizes personal growth of followers, has a useful research history in business but limited exposure in public schools. Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) is an organizational construct that describes non-contractual behaviors of workers that contribute to the success of the organization. The climate of a school is defined as the working environment as perceived by the teachers within the school. The people-centered behaviors of a servant leader principal promote positive social reciprocal interactions between the members within the organization. These relationships in turn foster organizational citizenship behaviors within the school and provide an open/healthy school environment. This study utilized data gathered from 708 participants within a random sample of forty-one public high schools in Alabama. Three reliable instruments were used in this study: Servant Leadership Survey (SLS), Organizational Climate Index (OCI), Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale (OCB Scale). The first hypothesis of the study tested the relationship of SL with OCB and School Climate. The findings for this study supported a previous study that servant leadership behaviors of the principal are significantly related to the school climate. As servant leadership behaviors increase the climate of the school improves. Findings also reveal that servant leadership behaviors are significantly related to the OCB within the school. As servant leadership behaviors increase the level of OCB within the school rises. The second hypothesis of the study tested the predictability of servant leadership and OCB on the perceived school climate. Regression analysis results identified OCB as the greater predictor of school climate. Further examination of the servant leadership and OCB with each climate dimension provided a more comprehensive examination of the relationships. OCB was found to be a greater predictor of collegial leadership and professional teacher behavior. Surprisingly, results of the analysis revealed socioeconomic status (SES) was the greater predictor of the academic press and environmental press within the school climate.
