Book Analysis of Small Business Perspective on the Electronic Data Interchange Acquisition Reform

Download or read book Analysis of Small Business Perspective on the Electronic Data Interchange Acquisition Reform written by Paul Hagen and published by . This book was released on 1997-06-01 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines small business' perception of utilizing Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) as a means to conduct business. The general concept and history of EDI is discussed along with a synopsis of current Government EDI systems in use. The results of two surveys are analyzed to provide an insight on the effect the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act is having on small business' opportunity to obtain Government Contracts. Additionally, interviews were conducted with several Government personnel to get their opinions on the progress of EDI in the workplace. The major conclusion drawn is that the majority of small businesses are willing to utilize EDI as a means to conduct business. But in its current form (i.e. FACNET) small businesses find it difficult to use and too expensive. The need to use a simpler and more cost-effective means is necessary to ensure that all small businesses have the opportunity to compete for Government contracts without cutting into their profit margins.

Book An Analysis of the Economic Effects of Improper Electronic Data Interchange Methods at a Small Company

Download or read book An Analysis of the Economic Effects of Improper Electronic Data Interchange Methods at a Small Company written by Cynthia Garlick and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to provide insight into the financial implications of inefficient implementation of electronic data interchange (EDI) systems for the use of processing electronic customer orders, as well as discuss why proper EDI adoption is critical. The specific objective of this study is to estimate the annual cost of improper use of EDI based on employee time spent manually entering orders that are received via EDI transmission. The estimated costs are used to calculate net present value (NPV) over the life of the investment in technology for up to a 10-year time frame. The findings provide organizations who currently use EDI systems, or are looking to adopt, with the information necessary for (a) efficient implementation to obtain the largest cost savings and benefits possible and (b) determining the cost-effectiveness of investments in employee trainings on EDI use. Primary data was collected for this study from one specific firm which was determined to be using inefficient EDI practices, lowering their return on investment (ROI) in this technology. The data referenced salaries, time and cost estimates obtained from professionals at the firm. After the primary data was collected and converted to dollars, a financial analysis was projected over a 10-year time frame. The NPV of the cumulative expenses incurred from inefficient EDI implementation was calculated using a five percent discount rate to estimate the benefit the firm could gain by investing in improving the efficiency of EDI use. The results show that inefficient EDI implementation decreases the expected ROI from the initial investment. If the firm continues their inefficient methods, they can stand to lose at least $143,710 over five years and $206,434 over ten years. It is in the firm's best interest to change their methods, invest in training, and adopt better practices. For further research, it would be beneficial to conduct an in-depth analysis on all inefficient EDI practices, instead of only order entry processes. Data should also be collected to analyze the emotional cost endured by employees that experience burnout and job dissatisfaction as a direct result from inefficient implementation. The findings in this study, and future research, will guide organizations to use proper techniques from the point of implementation so that they can maximize the benefits of EDI in improving operational efficiency.

Book The Adoption of Electronic Data Interchange

Download or read book The Adoption of Electronic Data Interchange written by Visvanathan Naicker and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic Data Interchange plays an important role in improving organizational competitiveness. Information Technology has been instrumental in integrating functional areas within and outside firms. This research uses empirical evidence to evaluate the state of EDI in the willingness of SME s to connect electronically to a large distribution centre in South Africa. Furthermore it investigates the EDI adoption rate from the viewpoint of a small business. Many such businesses feel coerced by larger trade partners to adopt EDI or lose the customer. Most practitioners of EDI are aware of the necessity for high penetration levels, to make EDI successful. However, penetration may be hindered by the refusal of small firms to accept EDI. Based on prior research this model incorporates 4 factors that are hypothesized to have an influence on EDI Adoption. The survey was concerned about four potential strategies for achieving business objectives namely: organizational readiness, external pressure, perceived benefits and security. Data was collected from 105 firms who responded to an e-mail survey...

In essence, the results obtained from the survey demonstrate that the proposed conceptual model can be used to identify the EDI adoption process in Singaporean SMEs.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book documents the research I conducted on the subject of Electronic Data Inter change during my time at the Institute of Business Informatics, University of Berne, Switzerland. In this effort I enjoyed a great deal of help from numerous others, in cluding professional colleagues, interview partners, and members of my family. Even though I cannot possibly mention them all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for their selfless support. Above all, I am grateful to Prof. Dr. Gerhard Knolmayer who contributed to the book both in its formative stages and throughout its development. He has been an unwavering source of encouragement during the many difficult stages of the investigation and I greatly benefitted from our discussions of the subject matter. Moreover, he was ex tremely generous with his time in carefully reviewing all the five chapters. The fmancial support for this book came from the Hasler Foundation in Berne. I wish to thank the Foundation, and especially its Managing Director, Dr. P.A. Jaeger, for funding the empirical part of the research project. Likewise, I am grateful to the Uni versity of Berne for providing me with the necessary computer and other resources. The Institute of Business Informatics should be commended particularly for its very stim ulating work environment.
