Book excerpt: I was bеіng саrеѕѕеd bу darkness, everywhere. Heavy gentle рrеѕѕurе аbѕоrbеd аnd сrаdlеd mу fееt whеn I trіеd tо move. I lооkеd аbоvе and a ѕtеаdу red glоw ѕеереd іntо blackness. On my inhale I ѕmеllеd сlоvеѕ, strikingly familiar, but nо answers. Whispers drоnеd ѕераrаtе frоm thе heavy ѕіlеnсе stuffed іn my еаrѕ, аѕ if іnѕіdе mу mind. They grеw lоudеr, іnѕіѕtеnt, thеn ѕоmеthіng grabbed mе frоm bеhіnd аnd wrеnсhеd mе bасkwаrdѕ іn a dоwnwаrd fall. Shосkеd, I gаѕреd and thеn... a flаѕh оf ѕсоrсhіng fіrе! Undеrnеаth mе I felt a ѕаggіng mаttrеѕѕ аnd above, warmth. It radiated аlоng the lеngth of mу numb and frееzіng bоdу. I trіеd to stretch uрwаrdѕ, wаntіng to luxurіаtе in thе fееl оf іt, but unаblе tо. An unсоmfоrtаblе ruѕhіng ѕеnѕаtіоn оf hеаt tumbled and sped thrоugh mу bоdу, displacing bоnе сhіllіng cold. I could hear mу оwn whіmреrѕ of раіn as іt burnеd thrоugh mу vеіnѕ. That's whеn mу mind started tо insist ѕоmеthіng wаѕ wrоng. Mу fоrеhеаd furrowed in соnfuѕіоn аnd I snapped mу eyes ореn. An undіgnіfіеd ѕԛuеаk оf terror flеw out of my mоuth bеfоrе I comprehended what wаѕ аbоvе mе. A dark rеd demon stared іntеntlу into mу face. A huntеr іѕ hunted.

Book Mathematical Models of Cancer and Different Therapies

Download or read book Mathematical Models of Cancer and Different Therapies written by Regina Padmanabhan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a unified framework for various currently available mathematical models that are used to analyze progression and regression in cancer development, and to predict its dynamics with respect to therapeutic interventions. Accurate and reliable model representations of cancer dynamics are milestones in the field of cancer research. Mathematical modeling approaches are becoming increasingly common in cancer research, as these quantitative approaches can help to validate hypotheses concerning cancer dynamics and thus elucidate the complexly interlaced mechanisms involved. Even though the related conceptual and technical information is growing at an exponential rate, the application of said information and realization of useful healthcare devices are lagging behind. In order to remedy this discrepancy, more interdisciplinary research works and course curricula need to be introduced in academic, industrial, and clinical organizations alike. To that end, this book reformulates most of the existing mathematical models as special cases of a general model, allowing readers to easily get an overall idea of cancer dynamics and its modeling. Moreover, the book will help bridge the gap between biologists and engineers, as it brings together cancer dynamics, the main steps involved in mathematical modeling, and control strategies developed for cancer management. This also allows readers in both medical and engineering fields to compare and contrast all the therapy-based models developed to date using a single source, and to identify unexplored research directions.

Book excerpt: A biological crisis of epic proportions threatens the world. Genetically manufactured creatures, called airwars, attack and kill at random. Despite having captured and sequestered the airwar's creator, a hastily formed world government appears to be more effective in consolidating power than in managing the crisis. Hope emerges when a navy admiral discovers there are individuals born genetically immune to the deadly stings of the creatures. As the "immunes" struggle to protect humanity, they bemoan escalating governmental control. There is, however, one key immune with the intelligence and leadership to look beyond the crisis. As the government unfolds its secret plans to end the crisis, the future of humanity may well rest on his shoulders.

Book Proceedings of the First Workshop on Biological Physics 2000

Download or read book Proceedings of the First Workshop on Biological Physics 2000 written by Virulh Sa-yakanit and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the broad subject of flavor physics, embracing the question of what distinguishes one type of elementary particles from another. The articles range from the forefront of formal theory (treating the physics of extra dimensions) to details of particle detectors. Although special emphasis is placed on the physics of kaons, charmed and beauty particles, top quarks, and neutrinos, the articles also dealing with electroweak physics, quantum chromodynamics, supersymmetry, and dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. Violations of fundamental symmetries such as time reversal invariance are discussed in the context of neutral kaons, beauty particles, electric dipole moments, and parity violation in atoms. The physics of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and of quark masses are described in some detail, both from the standpoint of present and future experimental knowledge and from a more fundamental viewpoint, where physicists are still searching for the correct theory

Book Mathematical Modeling

Download or read book Mathematical Modeling written by Sandip Banerjee and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-02-07 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost every year, a new book on mathematical modeling is published, so, why another? The answer springs directly from the fact that it is very rare to find a book that covers modeling with all types of differential equations in one volume. Until now. Mathematical Modeling: Models, Analysis and Applications covers modeling with all kinds of differential equations, namely ordinary, partial, delay, and stochastic. The book also contains a chapter on discrete modeling, consisting of differential equations, making it a complete textbook on this important skill needed for the study of science, engineering, and social sciences. More than just a textbook, this how-to guide presents tools for mathematical modeling and analysis. It offers a wide-ranging overview of mathematical ideas and techniques that provide a number of effective approaches to problem solving. Topics covered include spatial, delayed, and stochastic modeling. The text provides real-life examples of discrete and continuous mathematical modeling scenarios. MATLAB® and Mathematica® are incorporated throughout the text. The examples and exercises in each chapter can be used as problems in a project. Since mathematical modeling involves a diverse range of skills and tools, the author focuses on techniques that will be of particular interest to engineers, scientists, and others who use models of discrete and continuous systems. He gives students a foundation for understanding and using the mathematics that is the basis of computers, and therefore a foundation for success in engineering and science streams.
