Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immigration, has given the European nations the serious problem of solving the acceptance and the integration of the newcomers into their nations. How to balance the necessary opening of the borders with the interests of their own citizens who might feel threatened in their primary needs (for example they think about the lack of work places). It is with this in mind, and in general to ask the question WHY DO THEY HATE US ? In these pages, every non EU member can find -synthesized and simplified - the principle laws necessary to live in these countries taking Italy as an example people are worried about foreigners stealing their places of work, and the insurgency of different crimes that comes with immigrant due to lack of ingnorance of their Host country laws. A kind of which one can refer in order to know immediately the correct way to behave; what to do or what not to do, what to expect from the public authorities and who to turn to; what his rights and his obligations, are what constitutes a crime in Italy, what procedure to take in order to legalize his status, and so on. I hope i have produced something useful for both the foreigners who often violate the laws due to ignorance and lack of understanding, and for the Italians and the Institutions who will be able to live alongside, in an atmosphere of mutual respect, with foreigners who know and follow the laws of the country where they found themselves.Coming to somebodys country without prior knowledge of what might come your way can be more frustrating than you ever imagined, in this one fees not wanted or hated by the Host country. The answer is simple just know few things before setting out on the journey. Foreigners rights and duties In Italy, every non European foreigner that is someone from a country outside the EU has the same fundamental human rights provided for by internal and international law (for example, a foreigner can freely defend his rights in a court the same way as any Italian citizen).

Book Managing Migration in Italy and the United States

Download or read book Managing Migration in Italy and the United States written by Lauren Braun-Strumfels and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-12-31 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managing Migration in Italy and the United States shows how the development of gatekeeping in the United States and Italy laid the groundwork for immigration restriction worldwide at the turn of the twentieth century. The volume brings together European and American scholars, many for the first time, effectively crossing national and disciplinary boundaries. Using archives on both sides of the Atlantic, the authors explore the rise of immigration restriction and the attendant growth of the bureaucracy to regulate migration through the lens of migration studies, transnational history, and diplomatic and international history. The essays contribute to recent scholarship on the global repercussions of immigration restriction and the complex web of interactions created by limits on mobility. Managing Migration brings to light Italy’s important role in the establishment of international border controls promoted by the United States and expands the chronology of restriction from its origins to the present.

Book The Cultures of Italian Migration

Download or read book The Cultures of Italian Migration written by Graziella Parati and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2011-07-16 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cultures of Italian Migration allows the adjective "Italian" to qualify people's movements along diverse trajectories and temporal dimensions. Discussions on migrations to and from Italy meet in that discursive space where critical concepts like"home," "identity," "subjectivity," and "otherness" eschew stereotyping. This volume demonstrates that interpretations of old migrations are necessary in order to talk about contemporary Italy. New migrations trace new non linear paths in the definitionof a multicultural Italy whose roots are unmistakably present throughout the centuries. Some of these essays concentrate on topics that are historically long-term, such as emigration from Italy to the Americas and southern Pacific Ocean. Others focus on the more contemporary phenomena of immigration to Italy from other parts of the world, including Africa. This collection ultimately offers an invitation to seek out new and different modes of analyzing the migratory act.

Book The Other Side of Italy

Download or read book The Other Side of Italy written by Franco Pittau and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Italy, the rate of foreign immigration is among one of the major cultural shifts after World War II. Increased immigration rates account not only for people fleeing from countries during the war or times of unstable political situations (170,000 in 2014), but also for people relocating for work or family-related reasons. The immigrants were fewer than 150,000 in 1970, but currently count for 5 million (8% of the total population, not including those who have become Italian citizens), and are more numerous than Italian citizens residing abroad (4.5 million). This book proposes to introduce foreign readers to this phenomenon, which is in some respects problematic. Translation of texts written for Italian readers was avoided and the authors made choices to include original themes that could be interesting to readers outside Italy. The book's conclusions were entrusted to three immigrants: an Albanian sociologist, an Eritrean researcher and an Algerian novelist. According to the forecasts of demographers, the future Italy will be a country of large-scale immigrations, accounting for more than 10 million people by mid-century. Will Italy only be a country with many immigrants or a country with an adequate migration policy? Although society is still divided on the subject of newcomers, this book hopes to solve this issue in a positive manner and stimulate greater interest abroad.

Book The Italian Emigration of Modern Times

Download or read book The Italian Emigration of Modern Times written by Patrizia Famà Stahle and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Italian Emigration of Modern Times examines diplomatic issues that arose between Italy and the United States over a series of lynchings of Italian immigrant labourers before World War I. The work explores a significant epoch in Italian economic and diplomatic history which became intertwined with American ethnic and race relations issues. On one level, the book emphasises the pragmatism and restraint which characterized Italy’s official reactions to these repeated episodes of murder of its nationals. On another level, it shows that the diplomatic crises which swirled around the lynching of Italians pushed onto the American political scene the question of whether there should be a federal anti-lynching law. Naturally, the lynching of Italian nationals in the US produced wide public outrage in Italy. Italian domestic outcries presented the Italian government with a serious dilemma. Emigrant savings and financial transfers to family members remaining in Italy were an important economic asset. Italian diplomats launched investigations and protested vigorously, but ended up accepting federal financial compensation for the victims’ families. The consistent pragmatism and restraint of the Italian government through these episodes of violence is the unifying theme of the entire work.

Book Immigrants in the Lands of Promise

Download or read book Immigrants in the Lands of Promise written by Samuel L. Baily and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2016-11-15 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most studies of immigration to the New World have focused on the United States. Samuel L. Baily's eagerly awaited book broadens that perspective through a comparative analysis of Italian immigrants to Buenos Aires and New York City before World War I. It is one of the few works to trace Italians from their villages of origin to different destinations abroad. Baily examines the adjustment of Italians in the two cities, comparing such factors as employment opportunities, skill levels, pace of migration, degree of prejudice, and development of the Italian community. Of the two destinations, Buenos Aires offered Italians more extensive opportunities, and those who elected to move there tended to have the appropriate education or training to succeed. These immigrants, who adjusted more rapidly than their North American counterparts, adopted a long-term strategy of investing savings in their New World home. In New York, in contrast, the immigrants found fewer skilled and white-collar jobs, more competition from previous immigrant groups, greater discrimination, and a less supportive Italian enclave. As a result, rather than put down roots, many sought to earn money as rapidly as possible and send their earnings back to family in Italy. Baily views the migration process as a global phenomenon. Building on his richly documented case studies, the author briefly examines Italian communities in San Francisco, Toronto, and Sao Paulo. He establishes a continuum of immigrant adjustment in urban settings, creating a landmark study in both immigration and comparative history.
