Book Immensee Classic Reprint

Download or read book Immensee Classic Reprint written by Theodor Storm and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Immensee Up to his eighteenth year Storm attended the Latin school of his native town, and then the gymnasium in Liibeck, where he entered into close friendship with one of his classmates, the talented Emanuel Geibel, who was destined to become one of Germany's fore most lyric poets. By him Storm's love for poetry was awakened, and Goethe, Uhland, Eichendorff, and Heine began to exert an influence upon him, which he never outgrew. From 1837 to 1842 he studied juris prudence, first at the University of Kiel, the capital of schleswig-holstein, and subsequently at Berlin. In 1843, together with the brothers Theodor and Tycho Mommsen, he published a volume of poems under the title Liederbuch dreier Freunde, in which he appears as a disciple Of the Romantic school, more especially as a follower of Joseph von Eichendorff and the Romantic apostate Heinrich Heine. For the following ten years (1843-1853) he practised law in Husum, and established a comfortable and exceedingly happy home, having married his cousin, Constanze Esmarch. In 1851 appeared his S ommergeschzchten and Lieder, and in 1852 the tale Immensee. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: A work which discusses Storm's significance and artistic stature as a champion of democratic humanitarian traditions and aspirations in 19th century Germany. It highlights his critique of Christianity, his vision of capitalism and his analysis of class relationships. The study contends that his literary form, techniques and strategies were shaped by the need to respond to specific socio-political constraints and prejudices of publishers, editors and readers. Book Gypsies and Orientalism in German Literature and Anthropology of the Long Nineteenth Century

Download or read book Gypsies and Orientalism in German Literature and Anthropology of the Long Nineteenth Century written by Nicholas Saul and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An apparently nomadic diaspora nation of Indian provenance, the Gypsies are present with notable frequency in Germanic literatures from Wolzogen and Brentano to Stifter, Keller, Storm, Raabe, Jensen, Saar and Thomas Mann. Against the background of the still officially unacknowledged Romany Holocaust, Saul analyses in a series of close interpretations the stations of the literary construction of the Gypsy prior to the human disaster. The book's synthesis of scholarship in cultural, social and institutional history, the history of ideas and literary history will appeal to the scholarly community across traditional disciplinary boundaries, and will also serve as a valuable introduction for students from diverse fields.
