Download or read book Restore Such a One written by Lance M. Bacon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-08-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widespread deficiencies in spiritual formation see an increasing number of ministers buckle under the significant burdens common to the task. There are seasons when a powerful triad of the flesh, the world, and the devil converge (Eph 2:2–3, cf. Jas 3:15 and 1 John 2:16). Misdirected attempts to fulfill emptiness, find worth, or heal longstanding wounds ensue. Widespread instances of sexual immorality result. Sound exegesis and analysis of theological doctrine presents an allowance, in certain cases, for ministerial restoration. However, this necessitates an intimate and intricate approach that differs significantly from the varied solutions churches and denominations offer. Few restoration programs bring a biblical response to bear. Remarkably rare are restoration programs that look to correct causal factors and commit to congregational care. This program orients itself on an understanding of brokenness and the need for holistic (re)formation. The latter requires fallen ministers to progress beyond biblical confession and repentance to partner with the Holy Spirit and key authorities such as an overseer, mentors, Christian mental health professionals, and a designated congregation. The unitive goal is a “sanctifying psychopathology” that properly diagnoses spiritual and emotional health; eradicates the adverse influences of emotional, cultural, and spiritual factors; and redirects self-oriented patterns of thought and behavior.

Book Calming the Storm Within

Download or read book Calming the Storm Within written by Jim Lange and published by . This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is the best book on attaining peace that I've ever read...it has all the makings of a classic. Here's why I like this book: It's relevant (who doesn't want greater peace?); It's human (Jim shares, doesn't preach); It's engaging (enjoyable to read, its lessons very practical); And, it's biblically rooted (I'm frankly suspect of other peace-prescriptions). It's just what you and I need as we try to navigate our pressure-packed lives " John D. Beckett, Chairman, The Beckett Companies Author: Loving Monday and Mastering Monday One of the few constants in life is change. Our lives are so unpredictable. Jobs are lost. Health falters. Loved ones pass away. Relationships get rocky. Stress comes like a tidal wave. Being a follower of Jesus doesn't necessarily make it easier. In fact, He told us we'd have trouble in this life: "In this world you will have trouble..".That means all of us. Guaranteed. While Jesus didn't leave us without hope, trouble often brings with it a lack of peace. We become prisoners to worry, anxiety and fear. Thankfully, Jesus didn't stop there. We CAN be free. After making this prediction of trouble in our lives, Jesus was also quick to remind us that He is bigger than any of our troubles: "But take heart I have overcome the world." Jesus not only came to provide a way to heaven-He came to give us life to the full. That means inner peace in recessions. Serenity in the midst of relationship struggles. Calm regardless of circumstances. This isn't just any kind of peace...it is the peace which transcends all understanding, a level of peace that we cannot imagine. And God has made this readily available. So take hold of this peace. It's meant for you. This easy-to-read book walks the reader through a process to discovering peace in the midst of the chaos which abounds in your life. Because it is rooted in Scripture, if you follow the principles outlined here you WILL find true, lasting peace regardless of the circumstances in your life.

Download or read book Empowered by God written by Gisèle Laframboise and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You were designed in the image of God and to act like Jesus, yet you probably resist Holy Spirit unintentionally as do most Christians. It's time that you put on the mind of Christ and clothe yourself with Christ to do what Jesus did and even greater things. Is your spirit screaming for more of God and for His plan to be fulfilled in your life? Are you tired of living in mediocrity when you know that God wants you to do so much more? If so, this book may just be for you. It reveals God's truth and challenges you to reset your mind and heart on your privileges as well as obligations as a child of Almighty God. Are you doing anything supernatural""in God's power? If not, you are missing out on what God planned for you and asked of you. Jesus was all about the supernatural, and so were the disciples in the book of Acts. It's time we do the same! Too often we accept what is happening to us in the natural instead of fighting in the spiritual for something Jesus has already provided for us or wants to do for us. Don't accept defeat and credit God for it because our Father is all-powerful. Instead, partner with Holy Spirit to bring glory to the name of Jesus.

Book excerpt: "Frightening...Firestorm comes alive when Struzik discusses the work of offbeat scientists." —New York Times Book Review "Comprehensive and compelling." —Booklist "A powerful message." —Kirkus "Should be required reading." —Library Journal For two months in the spring of 2016, the world watched as wildfire ravaged the Canadian town of Fort McMurray. Firefighters named the fire “the Beast.” It acted like a mythical animal, alive with destructive energy, and they hoped never to see anything like it again. Yet it’s not a stretch to imagine we will all soon live in a world in which fires like the Beast are commonplace. A glance at international headlines shows a remarkable increase in higher temperatures, stronger winds, and drier lands– a trifecta for igniting wildfires like we’ve rarely seen before. This change is particularly noticeable in the northern forests of the United States and Canada. These forests require fire to maintain healthy ecosystems, but as the human population grows, and as changes in climate, animal and insect species, and disease cause further destabilization, wildfires have turned into a potentially uncontrollable threat to human lives and livelihoods. Our understanding of the role fire plays in healthy forests has come a long way in the past century. Despite this, we are not prepared to deal with an escalation of fire during periods of intense drought and shorter winters, earlier springs, potentially more lightning strikes and hotter summers. There is too much fuel on the ground, too many people and assets to protect, and no plan in place to deal with these challenges. In Firestorm, journalist Edward Struzik visits scorched earth from Alaska to Maine, and introduces the scientists, firefighters, and resource managers making the case for a radically different approach to managing wildfire in the 21st century. Wildfires can no longer be treated as avoidable events because the risk and dangers are becoming too great and costly. Struzik weaves a heart-pumping narrative of science, economics, politics, and human determination and points to the ways that we, and the wilder inhabitants of the forests around our cities and towns, might yet flourish in an age of growing megafires.

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Adolescence written by Roger J.R. Levesque and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 3161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Encyclopedia of Adolescence breaks new ground as an important central resource for the study of adolescence. Comprehensive in breath and textbook in depth, the Encyclopedia of Adolescence – with entries presented in easy-to-access A to Z format – serves as a reference repository of knowledge in the field as well as a frequently updated conduit of new knowledge long before such information trickles down from research to standard textbooks. By making full use of Springer’s print and online flexibility, the Encyclopedia is at the forefront of efforts to advance the field by pushing and creating new boundaries and areas of study that further our understanding of adolescents and their place in society. Substantively, the Encyclopedia draws from four major areas of research relating to adolescence. The first broad area includes research relating to "Self, Identity and Development in Adolescence". This area covers research relating to identity, from early adolescence through emerging adulthood; basic aspects of development (e.g., biological, cognitive, social); and foundational developmental theories. In addition, this area focuses on various types of identity: gender, sexual, civic, moral, political, racial, spiritual, religious, and so forth. The second broad area centers on "Adolescents’ Social and Personal Relationships". This area of research examines the nature and influence of a variety of important relationships, including family, peer, friends, sexual and romantic as well as significant nonparental adults. The third area examines "Adolescents in Social Institutions". This area of research centers on the influence and nature of important institutions that serve as the socializing contexts for adolescents. These major institutions include schools, religious groups, justice systems, medical fields, cultural contexts, media, legal systems, economic structures, and youth organizations. "Adolescent Mental Health" constitutes the last major area of research. This broad area of research focuses on the wide variety of human thoughts, actions, and behaviors relating to mental health, from psychopathology to thriving. Major topic examples include deviance, violence, crime, pathology (DSM), normalcy, risk, victimization, disabilities, flow, and positive youth development.
