Book Application of Image Intensifier Technology to the Military Scientific Industrial Educational and Medical Communities

Download or read book Application of Image Intensifier Technology to the Military Scientific Industrial Educational and Medical Communities written by Patrick H. Orell and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research paper addresses the applications of Image Intensifier technology to the Military, Scientific, Industrial, Educational and Medical communities. Image intensifiers are components, that when incorporated into scopes, photographic cameras, television cameras and weapons delivery systems, allow the operator visibility into dark or low illumination areas. The technology has surfaced within the last twenty years and has been, until recently, confined to the military for applications. Image intensified devices are rapidily becoming more popular for various applications, yet many persons are not aware of their existence or potential. The paper is written in non-technical terms to describe the physical make--up of first and second generation Image Intensifiers and addresses the newly developed charged coupled devices and third generation intensifiers under development. It covers a representative sample of applications that have been documented to date by the various manufacturers of Image Intensifiers and the laboratories and agencies that evaluate them. The paper incorporates 37 photographs and illustrations of devices and their applications in support of the communities listed. A list of documented applications and an Image Intensifier tube sensitivity chart is provided for information and reference. (Author).

Book Reeds Introductions Essential Sensing and Telecommunications for Marine Engineering Applications

Download or read book Reeds Introductions Essential Sensing and Telecommunications for Marine Engineering Applications written by Christopher Lavers and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reeds Introductions: Essential Sensing and Telecommunications for Marine Engineering Applications covers all fundamental and essential theoretical maritime physics principles which underpin modern marine sensors and telecommunications devices as needed by marine users such as: Navy, Coastguard, Merchant Shipping and users of pleasure craft. For safety at sea, it is vital that maritime users have at least a basic understanding of the key concepts upon which many essential modern sea-going sensors and communications devices now operate. Knowledge regarding electromagnetic waves and electromagnetic devices is an established merchant navy sea service requirement, particularly for the Standards in Training and Certification in Watchkeeping (STCW95) qualification in various Maritime Coastguard Agency exams, but it is also a practical matter for the amateur as well. This vital introductory book is written as simply as possible to educate an increasing number of maritime users who wish to become familiar and competent with the latest technologies as well as a growing number of overseas students for whom English is not their first language. This volume provides a comprehensive study of maritime sensors and telecommunications principles and provides a firm foundation prior to reading and studying textbooks in the Reeds Marine Engineering series. Students having read this easy-to-read volume will be better prepared for the more in depth study of that series.

Book Handbook of Optoelectronics Two Volume Set

Download or read book Handbook of Optoelectronics Two Volume Set written by John P. Dakin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-12-12 with total page 1616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A field as diverse as optoelectronics needs a reference that is equally versatile. From basic physics and light sources to devices and state-of-the-art applications, the Handbook of Optoelectronics provides comprehensive, self-contained coverage of fundamental concepts and practical applications across the entire spectrum of disciplines encompassed by optoelectronics. The handbook unifies a broad array of current research areas with a forward-looking focus on systems and applications. Beginning with an introduction to the relevant principles of physics, materials science, engineering, and optics, the book explores the details of optoelectronic devices and techniques including semiconductor lasers, optical detectors and receivers, optical fiber devices, modulators, amplifiers, integrated optics, LEDs, and engineered optical materials. Applications and systems then become the focus, with sections devoted to industrial, medical, and commercial applications, communications, imaging and displays, sensing and data processing, spectroscopic analysis, the art of practical optoelectronics, and future prospects. This extensive resource comprises the efforts of more than 70 world-renowned experts from leading industrial and academic institutions around the world and includes many references to contemporary works. Whether used as a field reference, as a research tool, or as a broad and self-contained introduction to the field, the Handbook of Optoelectronics places everything you need in a unified, conveniently organized format.

Book Applied Optics and Optical Engineering V6

Download or read book Applied Optics and Optical Engineering V6 written by Rudolf Kingslake and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Optics and Optical Engineering, Volume VI is an 11-chapter text that covers the principles and design of some optical devices and systems. The first three chapters deal with the principles, mode of operation, and application of several types of lasers, such as solid-state, gas, and semiconductor diode lasers. These topics are followed by the presentation of the physics and engineering of acousto-optic systems and coherent light valves. A chapter provides the fundamental considerations of the principles of scanning devices and systems, including the light beam, the scanning motions and patterns, and optical, mechanical, and electronic engineering considerations. The discussion then shifts to the potential applications of coherent optical processing techniques in mapping and the infrared detectors to the optical engineer. The remaining chapters examine the principles and applications of optical holography, image intensifiers, and fiber optics. This book is of great benefit to applied scientists and engineers who are interested in the conceptualization and design of new instruments and systems of coherent optics.
