Book Image Enhancement Using a Perceptual Fusion Approach

Download or read book Image Enhancement Using a Perceptual Fusion Approach written by Amina Saleem and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to limitations in image acquisition and transmission systems, image enhancement is established as an important area in image processing. Removing noise and blur, improving contrast to reveal details, coding artifact reduction and luminance adjustment are some image processing tasks that fall in the broader category of image enhancement operations. The problem of image enhancement is not a trivial task, since each image has its own characteristics and different image applications demand different enhancement requirements. It is therefore, hard to find a universal enhancement technique that would satisfy such diverse requirements. This justifies the presence of number of enhancement methods and ongoing research to find methods that can achieve different enhancement goals at the same time. Generally, image enhancement algorithms are developed to achieve some attributes of enhancement at the expense of some others. In our thesis, we develop a framework for fusion based image enhancement which is presented as a solution to the deficiencies of image enhancement algorithms. Fusion based methods for contrast enhancement, multi-focus image fusion and deblocking are developed with applications to tone mapping for HDR and natural enhancement of color images.

Book An Approach to Utilize a No reference Image Quality Metric and Fusion Technique for the Enhancement of Color Images

Download or read book An Approach to Utilize a No reference Image Quality Metric and Fusion Technique for the Enhancement of Color Images written by Manawaduge Supun Samudika De Silva and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a color image enhancement method that uses an existing method (developed for grayscale images) to adjust the luminance component of a color image towards intensifying details without debasing the images' perceptual quality. For color modifications, the proposed method uses Adaptive and Integrated Neighborhood-Dependent Approach for Nonlinear Enhancement (AINDANE), a superior method originally defined for improving color images captured under low-light. Furthermore, utilization of an appropriate white balancing technique gives rise to a color temperature controlled final image. It is shown that a no-reference quality metric scores higher for final enhanced images of selected diverse images and a comparison with AINDANE shows the competitiveness of the proposed method. Finally, a statistical factor based graphical representation displays a convergence towards the visually optimal range.

Book Infrared Image Enhancement Based on Hybrid domain Consideration and Data Fusion Methods

Download or read book Infrared Image Enhancement Based on Hybrid domain Consideration and Data Fusion Methods written by Qiong Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, the endeavor on infrared sensor applications has been proceeding widely all through the world. But there are some problems, namely that the targets are not clear enough or cannot be distinguished easily in the image obtained for the observed scene. Infrared image enhancement has been playing a significant role of an early stage technology in infrared computer vision, image processing and non-destructive testing, etc. This thesis addresses the issue of infrared image enhancement techniques in two aspects, including the single infrared image processing in hybrid space-frequency domain, and the infrared-visible image fusion employing the nonsubsampled Contourlet transform (NSCT) technique. The image fusion can be considered as being the further exploration of the model of singe infrared image enhancement, while it combines the infrared and visible images altogether into one image to represent and protrude all useful information and characteristics from the source images, by reason that a single image could not contain all relevant or available information in terms of the restrictions stemming from any single sensor of imaging. After the investigation and review for the development of infrared image enhancement techniques, in the topic of single infrared image enhancement, a hybrid-domain enhancement scheme with a threshold-improved fuzzy evaluation method is proposed, which achieves superior image quality and human visual perception. Infrared and visible image fusion techniques are established upon the implementation of accurate registration for source images acquired by different sensors. The SURF-RANSAC algorithm is applied in the registration issue all through the entire research work, which ensures us to receive very precisely registered images and to benefit further for the fusion processing. For the infrared-visible image fusion issues, a series of advanced and effective approaches are proposed. A multi-channel NSCT-based standard fusion method is presented as a reference for the subsequently proposed fusion approaches. An Adaptive-Gaussian NSCT and Wavelet Transform (WT) based joint fusion scheme is proposed, which obtains better fusion outcomes than the general non-adaptive methods. A NSCT-based fusion approach employing compressed sensing (CS) and total variation (TV) to sample coefficients sparsely and reconstruct fused coefficients accurately is proposed, which receives much better fusion results through pre-enhancing the infrared image and decreasing the redundant fusion coefficients information. A NSCT-based fusion scheme using fast iterative-shrinking compressed sensing (FISCS) technique is proposed to compress the decomposed coefficients and reconstruct the fused coefficients in the fusion process, which is able to achieve better results more rapidly and effectively.

Book Multi Level Bayesian Models for Environment Perception

Download or read book Multi Level Bayesian Models for Environment Perception written by Csaba Benedek and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-18 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with selected problems of machine perception, using various 2D and 3D imaging sensors. It proposes several new original methods, and also provides a detailed state-of-the-art overview of existing techniques for automated, multi-level interpretation of the observed static or dynamic environment. To ensure a sound theoretical basis of the new models, the surveys and algorithmic developments are performed in well-established Bayesian frameworks. Low level scene understanding functions are formulated as various image segmentation problems, where the advantages of probabilistic inference techniques such as Markov Random Fields (MRF) or Mixed Markov Models are considered. For the object level scene analysis, the book mainly relies on the literature of Marked Point Process (MPP) approaches, which consider strong geometric and prior interaction constraints in object population modeling. In particular, key developments are introduced in the spatial hierarchical decomposition of the observed scenarios, and in the temporal extension of complex MRF and MPP models. Apart from utilizing conventional optical sensors, case studies are provided on passive radar (ISAR) and Lidar-based Bayesian environment perception tasks. It is shown, via several experiments, that the proposed contributions embedded into a strict mathematical toolkit can significantly improve the results in real world 2D/3D test images and videos, for applications in video surveillance, smart city monitoring, autonomous driving, remote sensing, and optical industrial inspection.
