Book excerpt: Until recently still a blank spot on the world map of art, China today occupies one of the top positions in the rankings of the global art market and has moved into the center of the speculations and the covetousness of its protagonists. But what is really happening on the spot, beyond the ethnocentric distortions of the Western viewpoint? What social representations and uses of art can be identified? A research team from the University of St. Gallen has taken up such questions in an ethnographical field research project which enables the actors in this emergent and nonetheless already market-dominated art field to have their say.

Book Uncovering the Hidden Stranger Within

Download or read book Uncovering the Hidden Stranger Within written by Kay Taiwo and published by Vision for Life Publications. This book was released on 2013-12-07 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The truth remains: men, women, and children are plunging deeper into the entanglement of a deplorable condition. The crisis of identity plagues our world like never before. When a person's basic sense of being is altered, he or she tends to gravitate in the direction that seems to offer a deeper sense of self-worth. You are a unique individual, possessing unique gifts, talents, and abilities. You cannot be duplicated! That is why attempting to be someone else only leaves you feeling inadequate. Your identity is what makes 'you' you, and not someone else. Ignorance is no bliss! What you do not know can hinder you. In the same token, if you do not know who you are, you will stumble in your attempt to fulfill your God-given purpose. In this book, we deal with the importance of manifesting our destiny through grabbing a hold of biblical insights as to who we are in Christ. Why? The reason is 'Mankind has an identity ordained in Christ. This identity once embraced in its totality determines the course of destiny experienced.' It is time to live on purpose! There are countless millions waiting for you to show up and deliver what God has invested in you. The principles discussed in this book have been demonstrated in our lives for years. This is a book from the heart. We believe that as you embrace the principles therein, illumination will come to you relative to your specific condition. With the help of the Spirit of God, you will know what adjustments to make to stand your ground as an ambassador in the Kingdom of God. It is our prayer that you will understand clearly that your identity is suspended between your origin and your destiny. What you identify as your origin affects your perception of self. Why? 'You are a byproduct of the one who made you.' The originator of a thing determines its intrinsic worth. The origin also spells out the outcome of the product. We trust that as you read this book you will grasp that your Creator, God, did a good job in making you. — Kayode and Olumide Taiwo

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who were the men called by Jesus? Among the twelve disciples were two sets of brothers – Peter and Andrew, James and John – and a man named Matthew. If we were selecting individuals to follow Jesus, these men would have never been on our list. But Jesus saw something in them we could never see. Peter, Andrew, James, and John made their livelihood fishing in the Sea of Galilee. Matthew collected taxes for the hated Roman empire. Each was an average man just going about his daily business. But Jesus turned their lives upside down by calling to them, saying, “Follow me.” Just as his call changed their lives, it can change your life, too. Billy Joseph Stines, who served almost forty years at six churches scattered around North and South Carolina, explores why you should listen to the call of Jesus. He also urges readers to stop dismissing those parts of the Bible that do not fit their idea of who God is. Instead of seeking peace through compromise, the goal must be to discover the truth – Jesus Christ.

Download or read book James written by R. Kent Hughes and published by Crossway. This book was released on 1991-07 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too often Christmas gets swallowed up in the busyness of shopping and sending cards and wrapping presents. As we rush around, we often miss the wonder of what Christmas is all about. Christmas began with a gift given to the human race two thousand years ago. It was a child, born in a Bethlehem stable and laid in a manger. His birth was announced by wise men guided from the East by a very special star. It was the gift we needed most: a Savior, the Holy Son of God. This is the good news proclaimed by the angel: "Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:10-11). Why was God's gift of a Savior so important? There are three reasons: The greatness of the need. The future of the human race was at stake. Sin made havoc of God's creation and brought estrangement from its Creator. The greatness of the gift. Not only was the need great, but the gift was also great! "This is My beloved Son," God said, "in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17). The greatness of the cost. Read the inspired portraits of the suffering of Christ in Isaiah 53, Psalm 22, and Psalm 69. The cross was only part of the price He gladly paid. Jesus Christ did not die for His own sins or because He was a victim of circumstances. He came, as God's supreme gift to you and me. The Bible pointedly asks: "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" (Hebrews 2:3). Have you overlooked the really important gift of Christmas? Is God prompting you to look through the odds and ends of Christmas? God's gift for you is waiting. Don't miss it. Right now, wherever you are, you can receive the costliest gift, Jesus Christ the Savior. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
