Book Illustrated Lecture on Corn Production Classic Reprint

Download or read book Illustrated Lecture on Corn Production Classic Reprint written by Charles Pinckney Hartley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Illustrated Lecture on Corn Production For no 10-year period has the corn yield of the United View States exceeded 28 bushels per acre. No State has averaged for any year over 54 bushels per acre, yet in practically every section of the United States yields of more than 100 bushels have been produced. As States and as a Nation too much land is being used and much more labor is being performed in producing the corn crop than is necessary. The demand con trols the quantity that should be grown. To meet demands the producers of the United States during the years previous to 1910 averaged in round numbers bushels of corn yearly. In producing this quantity a little more than acres have yearly been devoted to corn growing. The possibility of doubling our acre yield of corn is so good and its accomplishment of such tremendous importance that school, State, National, and independent organizations of corn clubs and associations of com breeders and corn growers have centered their interests in this direction and have become active in a way that is certain to lead to success. Such clubs and associations are especially fitted for this most important work. By bringing together yearly the experiences of many mem bers, and continuing their records indefinitely, corn growers may each year profit by all past experiences and results. Download or read book Syllabus of Illustrated Lecture on Acid Soils Classic Reprint written by Homer Jay Wheeler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-07 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Syllabus of Illustrated Lecture on Acid Soils In the initial experiment at the Rhode Island Station sulphate of ammonia was used on unlimed soil at rates of 120, 240, and 360 pounds per acre, in addition to potassic and phosphatic manures. With each additional application Of this substance the yield fell decidedly. In' the view now upon the screen, showing the crop of 1908, the three rows of Indian corn in the center were grown where but 240 pounds per acre of sulphate of ammonia were applied. Lime was applied to the soil at the farther end of the rows, where the Indian corn is seen to be taller. A nearer view of the corn where the lime had been employed shows that the growth was excellent. It will be observed that it was not, however, so good as upon the limed section, where 360 pounds of sulphate of ammonia had. Been employed. It was particularly striking that upon the unlimed soil each increase in the application of sulphate of am monia reduced the yield, while where the lime was applied the yield rose decidedly with each application of the ammonium salt. It was not alone at Kingston, R. I., that sulphate of ammonia. Acted injuriously, for similar results appeared the second and third years of its use at Hope Valley. Book The Political Institution of Private Property

Download or read book The Political Institution of Private Property written by Itai Sened and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-07-24 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Itai Sened examines the political institution of property and other individual rights. His argument is that the foundation of such rights is to be found in the political and economic institutions which grant and enforce them and not in any set of moral principles or 'nature'. The book further argues that individual rights are instituted through a political process, and not by any hidden market forces. The origin of rights is placed in a social contract that evolves as a political process in which governments grant and protect property and other individual rights to constituents, in return for economic and political support. Extending neo-institutional theory to the subject, and using a positive game theoretic approach in its analysis, this book is an original contribution to scholarship on the evolution of rights.
