She's trying to maneuver in a world she is not equipped to handle on her own. She is left with a self-centered mother, who's only concerned with the fact she got pregnant by a soldier (Lincoln's dad), and she will always get a monthly benefit check from the army. Lincoln became her security blanket but also the biggest throne on her side. Lincoln leaves home for good as an early teen and is misguided by her own distorted thinking and her ideological thoughts of what a perfect life consists of. Lincoln meets Lance, and he has all the great qualities Lincoln felt a person should have. He had a great smile, the innocence that she felt every young person still has, and the perfect parents. He was born and raised in an apostolic church, so Lincoln just knew in her heart he was heaven-sent. Lincoln always knew she had all her ducks lined up perfectly, and marriage to Lance completes her line of ducks along with two of his children. After being married, Lincoln learns nothing is perfect in this world, and her ducks begin to waddle away one by one. Lincoln has to deal with her husband having an affair, a gambling addiction that spiraled out of control, and the men who loved her. She was unable to commit to anyone. Lincoln has to figure out a way to fix her life, which has been crumbling. She has been running away from herself for so long that now she has caught up and has to deal with the consequences. Finally, Lincoln is rejoined with all her sisters on a cruise that is unforgettable.

Book THE BEAUTIFUL ILLUSION OF BEING IN LOVE

Download or read book THE BEAUTIFUL ILLUSION OF BEING IN LOVE written by Adrian Gabriel Dumitru and published by Adrian Gabriel Dumitru. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book “The beautiful illusion of being in love” is a collection of writings with what is love about. Starting from the philosophical idea that everything we see in life is just an illusion, the book is defining the concept of love in the same way. But the illusion itself is also named “beautiful”. Falling in love is an experience, that any human being must see, with it’s own soul. It can be a beautiful experience, an illusion or a beautiful illusion. The book is more like a collection of poems, but the writer is not knowing to write poetry, but only essays. Trying to define love in many ways, the essays speak about the beautiful illusion as part of the life ... maybe the most important part. Defining is done in a micro and macro way, but the love is always seen as something very beautiful. The book could be a very nice reading for the ones that are in the dreaming period of a love story, or the ones that wants to understand love from a philosophical point of view. Enjoy it!

Book excerpt: NYT bestselling author Patricia Rice presents the third book in her beloved School of Magic series: Victorian Edinburgh belongs to staid professors, not the flamboyant daughter of a Hindu princess. Lacking any of her Malcolm family’s psychic abilities, Azmin Dougall flees her ancestral home of India for Edinburgh, fearing she’ll be a pigeon in a family of peacocks. But she’s willing to risk everything to aid a friend’s escape from an abusive husband—and to test her newly discovered, weirdly-perceptive photography skills. Dr. Zane Dare is done with risk. Because his work introduced disease into his family home, his sister is dead, and his niece, Louisa, is an invalid left in his care. As a bachelor, and one who spends all his waking hours researching a cure, he has no means of entertaining an adolescent girl. In desperation, he asks the School of Malcolms to provide a governess. Zane is appalled when they send Azmin. A decade ago they shared an enchanted summer that ended in crushed dreams. Worse yet, introducing a defiant Hindu princess into his household will jeopardize Zane’s precarious research position. And Azmin isn’t about to trust a man who scoffs at her incipient psychic abilities—until his frail niece wins her love. But after Azmin’s photograph reveals the man courting Louisa may be dangerous, Zane and Azmin must set aside their differences to protect the girl who could teach their hearts to love again . . .

Book excerpt: From grief and mourning to aging and relationships, poet and Redbook contributor Judith Viorst presents a thoughtful and researched study in this examination of love, loss, and letting go. Drawing on psychoanalysis, literature, and personal experience, Necessary Losses is a philosophy for understanding and accepting life’s inevitabilities. In Necessary Losses, Judith Viorst turns her considerable talents to a serious and far-reaching subject: how we grow and change through the losses that are a certain and necessary part of life. She argues persuasively that through the loss of our mothers’ protection, the loss of the impossible expectations we bring to relationships, the loss of our younger selves, and the loss of our loved ones through separation and death, we gain deeper perspective, true maturity, and fuller wisdom about life. She has written a book that is both life affirming and life changing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wiggling a pencil so that it looks like it is made of rubber, "stealing" your niece's nose, and listening for the sounds of the ocean in a conch shell– these are examples of folk illusions, youthful play forms that trade on perceptual oddities. In this groundbreaking study, K. Brandon Barker and Claiborne Rice argue that these easily overlooked instances of children's folklore offer an important avenue for studying perception and cognition in the contexts of social and embodied development. Folk illusions are traditionalized verbal and/or physical actions that are performed with the intention of creating a phantasm for one or more participants. Using a cross-disciplinary approach that combines the ethnographic methods of folklore with the empirical data of neuroscience, cognitive science, and psychology, Barker and Rice catalogue over eighty discrete folk illusions while exploring the complexities of embodied perception. Taken together as a genre of folklore, folk illusions show that people, starting from a young age, possess an awareness of the illusory tendencies of perceptual processes as well as an awareness that the distinctions between illusion and reality are always communally formed.
